CHECKING FOR CYLINDER LEAKAGE
A cylinder rod should be slightly oily. Check that there are no leaks after a period of work, when the whole hydraulic system is at normal operating temperature. 1. Wipe clean the rod and bearing on the cylinder to be checked. 2. Operate normally for five to ten minutes. 3. Extend the cylinder rod. 4. Check that there are no leaks.
ROD APPEARANCE TEST CONCLUSION
Dry Slight traces of oil when a piece of paper is wiped over 20 cm of the rod. Normal
Slightly oily Paper remains stuck to rod when run over the rod. Normal Oily Paper remains stuck when placed on the rod. Normal Very oily or weeping Each time cylinder rod is extended, a ring of oil can be seen on the rod. See your CASE Leakage Each time the rod retracts, the excess oil drips from the gland. Dealer

SHIMMING OF ATTACHMENTS
The purpose of shimming attachments is to reduce lateral play in the linkage and to spread that play, with the various components being correctly aligned. The play taken into account is the amount of lateral movement possible by one linkage component in relation the other. Shimming is carried out using steel washers. IMPORTANT: Minimum play for all linkage points is 0.5 mm.

To remove the pin, see “Replacing a dipper”. NOTE: Shimming must be symmetrical between the boom top and the dipper bottom. IMPORTANT: Do not insert washers on the inner side of the dipper bottom (A).
PDG0142 Measure the total play. If it is equal to or greater than 2 mm, insert washers (1) until a minimum play of 0.5 mm is obtained. TRIM THIS EDGE

AIR CONDITIONING (optional)
The air conditioning system components require maintenance at regular intervals. Respect these intervals so as to ensure correct operation and full effectiveness of the air conditioning system. The air conditioning system contains a gas which is subject to strict regulation. Any failures in the system must be repaired rapidly.
WARNING: Never carry out any servicing operation on the refrigerating system. Consult an approved specialist for any servicing work.
NOTE: Run the air conditioning at least once a week, if only for a short time. See "Air conditioning controls" in the "Controls/Instruments/Accessories" Section.

Compressor lubrication
NOTE: In cold weather, run the engine for a few minutes before starting up the compressor. IMPORTANT: Never unscrew the plug located on top of the compressor, since the system would be discharged.
PH04203 Using the air conditioning controls in the cab, set the compressor running so as to lubricate the internal seal. See "Air conditioning controls" in the "Controls/Instruments/Accessories" Section.
