Our Rich History

For over a century Blum Construction Company has been a trusted building partner to owners across North Carolina for generations. With the lowest actively-used general contractor license number in the state of North Carolina - License #18 - the 100+year-old firm has a solid reputation for weathering the most challenging economies, partnering with the most exacting owners, and excelling at the most complex projects. Many iconic and beloved buildings bear the Blum Construction imprint of fine craftsmanship on the original structure or its subsequent renovation or restoration.

The organization’s beginnings were humble. When Frank Blum founded his company, he listed just a few assets, including a Ford automobile, two concrete mixers, one team of mules, and a wagon and harness. After surviving the economic challenges of the 1930s and turbulent war years of the 1940s, the company suffered yet another blow – Mr. Blum’s sudden death in 1954. Employees rallied to save the company, and that first ownership team embraced the challenge of carrying on the Blum tradition of excellence. They recruited and developed a new generation of leaders who would carry the company through the recession and recovery of the 1980s and position it to become one of the most stable and respected businesses in North Carolina.

Looking toward the future, Blum’s original team of managing partners has brought new partners to the forefront. This generation of leadership is now firmly in the saddle, and is leading Blum’s expansion throughout the entire state of North Carolina and into southern Virginia, and will take Blum Construction well past its 100th anniversary.

Headquartered in Winston-Salem, NC, with strategic offices in Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, and Asheville, Blum Construction is strategically positioned to serve clients across the state. Our robust management team ensures operational excellence, providing leadership that caters to our clients’ diverse building needs. With a portfolio boasting some of North Carolina’s most esteemed projects, Blum Construction continues to earn accolades based on the expertise, experience, and unwavering dedication of our team.

Our enduring commitment to excellence has forged lasting partnerships with project owners who share our passion for exceptional construction. At Blum Construction, we don’t just build structures; we create dynamic spaces that reflect our clients’ unique visions and missions. Whether it’s crafting homes, educational facilities, entertainment venues, inspiring work environments, or healthcare facilities, we are dedicated to delivering top-tier quality that exceeds expectations.

Our success is rooted in the unwavering dedication of our team and our steadfast commitment to client satisfaction. By prioritizing trust, creativity, and enjoyment in every project, we cultivate enduring relationships that stand the test of time.

Blum was chosen during the programming phase of the Asbury Neighborhood project to help set a budget and schedule that the team could adhere to during design and construction. Despite being built in two phases, both were delivered using a fast-track method, necessitating the simultaneous turnover of multiple cottages to fulfill the community’s commitments.
