Cuba introduces new vaccine candidate against acute respiratory infections and COVID-19
Cuba ha desarrollado un ensayo clínico, ya en su fase II, del candidato vacunal CIGB 2020 del Centro de Ingeniería Genética y Biotecnología (CIGB), para estimular la respuesta inmunológica frente a infecciones respiratorias agudas, incluidas las causadas por el virus SARS-CoV-2.
Cuba has developed a clinical trial, already in phase II, of the vaccine candidate CIGB 2020 from the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), to stimulate the immune response against acute respiratory infections, including those caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
El estudio llevado a cabo evalúa el efecto y la seguridad en sujetos de 60 años o más, contactos de pacientes con infecciones respiratorias agudas, comparado con un grupo control de igual población. El inmunopotenciador que se analizó se aplica por vía nasal y sublingual y estimula la inmunidad a nivel local. El candidato tuvo resultados efectivos en pacientes con COVID-19, al limitar el progreso de la afección a estadios de mayor gravedad pues impide que el virus sobrepase al sistema inmune y logra un equilibrio en la inmunidad natural o innata.
This study evaluates the effect and safety in subjects aged 60 years and older who are contacts of patients with acute respiratory infections and compares it to a control group from the same population. The immunopotentiator studied is administered nasally and sublingually to stimulates local immunity. The candidate showed its efficacy in patients with COVID-19 by limiting the progression to more severe stages of the disease, as it prevents the virus from overcoming the immune system and achieves a balance in the natural or innate immunity.
