Theatre Studies A Level Overview

Theatre Studies is a rewarding, engaging and demanding subject, but if you are passionate about drama, literature and performance then this subject is for you.

Theatre allows us to explore the world around us. We can question, challenge, dissect and engage with human behaviour, culture and politics in a safe and creative learning environment. The course demands a physical level of fitness and ability, as we will study practitioners such as Berkoff, Frantic Assembly and Artand.

The course combines hard work with improvisation, interpretation and lots of fun. Studying theatre can increase self-esteem and confidence. It helps develop personal qualities like public speaking and team working. These are transferable skills useful in many career paths such as politics, media and even medicine. This course will take you on a journey through everything that makes the theatre great – from understanding texts through to set, lighting and costume design and, of course, performance techniques. You’ll learn about and perform works by some of the leading writers and combine this with regular trips to live drama performances.

Entry Requirements 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4, including English Language and Literature at Grade 5 Students wanting to take A Level Theatre studies ideally would have studied Drama at GCSE Level but we will also accept students who have taken a BTEC in Performing Arts providing they have achieved a MERIT or above
