Sociology A Level

Overview

Sociology is the study of society and its problems. Through Sociology we try to make the familiar strange. This allows us to view familiar topics in a new way. We look at the family and its effect on the education system. We discover how the education system links to crime and deviance within a given society. We investigate how people’s different beliefs shape their identity. Sociology involves studying different theories and perspectives that explain the world we live in. It also allows us to apply them to our own experiences. Everyone has something to offer in Sociology, because we all live in society. Lessons involve a combination of essay writing, debate, discussion, group work, presentations and much, much more! Sociology complements a variety of subjects including English, traditional Humanities subjects and Psychology. 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4, including English Language
