‘For our Elders’ chant leads Charters Towers NAIDOC march
The TSI flag was up front during the NAIDOC street march through the Charters Towers main street. STORY AND PICS BY ALF WILSON The Torres Strait Islander flag held a prominent place during the successful NAIDOC street march in Charters Towers last Friday. More than 100 men, women and children marched as spectators looked on. Leading the march were the local Gudjala dancers who chanted a theme of NAIDOC celebrations For Our Elders.
Also near the front was a huge Torres Strait flag held by Police Liaison Officer Nikkie Edwards and two youngsters. It was followed by a Family Fun Day at Centenary Park. There was several other events during the week and elder Keith McKean said an elders morning tea had been well-attended. A flag raising ceremony was also on the list of events with an Elders dinner to be held on Saturday 19 August. Boigu
