The Awards form a key part of Australia’s celebration and commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the United Nation’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Awards provide national recognition to human rights champions from all walks of life and from right across the country, as well as to significant achievements in protecting and promoting human rights in Australia.

President Emeritus Professor Rosalind Croucher AM said 2023 was a landmark year.
“2023 is a landmark year for people and organisations involved with human rights as we commemorate 75 years since the UN adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” he said.
“This hugely important document continues to underpin so much about our contemporary approach to rights, justice and equality here in Australia and around the world, and so this year we’re focussed on highlighting the work of Australia’s human rights heroes in this context.
Principal Partner Paul Ramsay Foundation CEO Professor Kristy Muir said thousands of Australians were making a difference every day, contributing to improving equity in society and championing justice for all.
“Providing a platform to tell their stories and celebrate their work is vital to fostering an appreciation for the value and impact of human rights,” she said.
Nominators whose nominees are chosen as finalists will receive one complimentary ticket to the Awards ceremony. Finalists will be announced on Monday 16 October.
Award recipients will be announced at the Awards ceremony and reception in Sydney in December (date and time to be announced soon).
