“Our plan is to have 12 teams with regular games which will be great for the juniors,” he said.

He said it would be ideal for the Outer Islands comp to include games against teams from the award winning Zenadth Kes Junior Rugby League based on Waiben.

Such a comp would increase the chances of juniors from remote islands to gain pathways to men and women’s competitions in the Cairns, Townsville and Mackay – towns where many have relatives. From there they could go onto to play in the Queensland Cup competitions and after that the most skilful could be snared by an NRL men or women’s Club.
