How to Reduce Guilt When You're Doing Nothing Why is it we feel so guilty doing nothing, urged by the notion we always must be doing something? An urban legend inscribed in our foreheads; the busier we are the richer our lives must be, so we busy ourselves with distractions, agendas, things we promote to utmost importance. We aspire to having it all under control. In reality working harder, under the pump all the time is not the key to success, in fact it’s the fastest way to burnout your brain and body. Neural brain research shows that it is just as important to our overall wellbeing to relax, rest and recharge as it is to challenge yourself with something interesting and exciting.

5 x '5 minute' brain breaks throughout the day are optimal if you don’t have time for something longer. When I remember to sit in silence for 10 minutes, it’s often the most inspiring and productive part of my day. Brain fog mysteriously evaporates, your creative neurons get a chance to fire spontaneously, solutions you didn’t realise before will present themselves, remembering something important is effortless. Allow yourself permission to put whatever it is down for a few minutes and trust that the world will adjust.
