All Set for Self Love Through Creative Arts Retreat

Picture this…… a day away from reality and life’s responsibilities in the sanctity of a spacious bell tent overlooking a tranquil river, trees blowing gently in the breeze around you and the opportunity for you to embrace Self Love Through Creative Arts.

Fiona Doig of Creating Calm has created a one-day retreat on a secluded property at Alton Downs, just 30km to the west of Rockhampton Fiona says “My heart and soul are full just thinking our our upcoming retreat We will be spending a beautiful day amongst the trees overlooking the river in our beautiful retreat space Words cannot even begin to explain the feeling of pure calm and the experience of feeling grounded that can come from simply being in this space in nature”

In her adult A,B,C of Me Wellbeing sessions, one of the barriers that is often raised when it comes to Self Love and Self Care is time. There are some wonderful weekend retreats available locally, however Fiona saw the opportunity to create a Day Retreat, particularly for those women who are unable to spend nights away The Day Retreat will allow participants to indulge in a retreat experience

Fiona is passionate about sharing ways people can use Creative Arts therapeutically She is on a mission to give participants a beautiful retreat day full of Self Love but to also empower them with the tools to continue their Self Love Journey at home after the retreat.

5
The tee-pee which will host the One Day Self -Love Retreat

If you choose to join this magnificent one day retreat, you can expect to receive a beautiful sage smoke energy cleansing on entry to the retreat area, followed by joining together in the log circle to set intentions for the day head. You will then head into the Tee Pee to create your first entry in your art journal, creating Self Love heart/leaf paintings. A delicious lunch will be served, and you will be free to chat or find a quiet spot and soak up the calming, grounding energy. In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to create a Gratitude Jar before heading out to the fire circle to discuss the power of music and voice in healing and Self Love, then you will be able to create your own melodic mantras and share in some songs. Following that will be an opportunity to lay out beneath the trees and learn how to do a self-Crystal Chakra Balance with the option to participate in some Medicine Drum Healing A beautiful fire ceremony will bring the day to a conclusion after burning some of the barriers to Self-love and setting intentions for your continued Self Love Journey

6

There are two ticket types available for the Retreat – The Standard which includes all activities on the day, materials needed for the activities including your own art journal, crystal chakra pack, gratitude jar you create and lunch The Deluxe has all the inclusions of the standard ticket with the addition of a Create Calm take home tote bag with a beautiful box art set full of art supplies, Self Care guided journal, sage stick and a beautiful Self Love Intention crystal heart. Head to the Creating Calm Facebook page for all of the event details and to purchase tickets.

Fiona was nominated for recognition in the Mentor Category for The Hub Capricorn Coast & Coastal Kinesiology’s International Women’s Day Event We asked Fiona a few questions in relation to her nomination.

Recently, you were nominated for recognition in the Mentor Category for International Women’s Day, what does this mean to you on a personal and professional level?

My goal in my business is to empower people to improve their own wellbeing through Creative Arts and empower adults and children with tools for relaxation and regulation. To be recognized in the Mentor Category filled my heart with love and pride. I used to question myself, who do I think I am to assist others on their Soul Love journeys, when I have not ‘completed’ my own. I have since realized that Self Love is a journey not a destination and I believe most likely a lifelong journey. I love the quote ‘the best teachers are still learning and the best healers are still healing’

What inspires you to mentor, nurture and nourish other business owners?

Running your own business is empowering and has lots of benefits like setting your own hours, and without a doubt the most important for me, getting to share something I am truly passionate about, to be able to put my hand on my heart and say ‘I love my work’

All that said, it can be hard too, especially in the early years trying to establish your business, whilst trying to keep a work/life balance For many years as an Activist Ambassador for the Body Shop (I became a consultant whilst on maternity leave with my son), I was particularly passionate about the Self Love uprising campaign As passionate as I was, it became apparent that I was better at preaching than practicing, as I think can be a trap for many, particularly in the Wellbeing Industry. I want to encourage all those caring for and nourishing others where that’s in your work or personal lives or both to make time for YOU too. When we nourish our own Self Love, we become the best version of ourselves for us and all those around us.

What advice would you give to someone who is seeking a mentor?

Follow your instincts. I truly believe we are drawn to those who are meant to be a part of our story.

Brian Brings 4Plus Program to Assist Clients With Healing

The 4Plus program is the creation of local remedial therapist Brian Drummond. A unique, personalized program consisting of 4 weekly treatments coupled with personalized advice, instruction, and the provision of a device to use at home for the duration of the program is set to help those who are affected by stress, pain, or both

Each aspect of the program is tailored to meet the unique needs of each client

In 2021, Brian came out of retirement to set up a part time practice to focus on emerging therapies that he believed had potential to help those who weren’t finding relief with conventional methods

To his knowledge none had yet been introduced to Yeppoon. Brian knew it would be a challenge, but one that he was prepared to take on having seen the benefits and outcomes in his research and study.

Having been the first therapist in Yeppoon in the early 90’s to provide comprehensive cupping, Gua Sha and acupressure, Brian has continued to introduce innovative treatments to his practice which now also include red/infrared pain treatment and Physiokey therapy.

9

Working with his clients in clinic, Brian uses a range of therapies to meet their diverse needs and preferences Carefully selecting from Physiokey therapy, microcurrent acupuncture point stimulation, massage, cupping, acupressure, MPS (no needles microcurrent acupuncture point stimulation) and red/infrared light therapy to create a holistic and synergistic approach to each client’s individual symptoms.

In addition to the in-clinic sessions, Brian provides fundamental yet highly effective instruction on functional breathing. He believes the extent to which efficient breathing not only enhances physical wellbeing, but also improves mental clarity and overall physical function. Accurate evidence based advice and information on a range of relevant health related issues is also available.

He says that while attention is paid to specific issues, such as back pain etc; a treatment also aims to enhance the body’s powerful innate healing abilities to provide a better outcome. To achieve this, particular attention is given to encouraging proper function of the autonomic nervous system so that it can shift from fight or flight mode to rest and recover mode as required

At the core of Brian’s approach is his firm belief that improving overall physical and mental wellbeing can significantly bolster the body’s self-repair and self-regulation capacities Clients are encouraged to take an active role in their own healing journey as much as they are able to

If you would like to take advantage of Brian’s 4PLUS Program or to find out more about the treatments he has on offer and how they could potentially assist you, give him a call on 0448 795 620 Be sure to like and follow Recharge Remedial Therapies on Facebook to keep up to date with Brian’s latest offerings and news.

Walk for Wellbeing

The 3rd annual The Hub Capricorn Coast Walk for Wellbeing is set for Sunday 13th October during Queensland Mental Health Week. The theme of Queensland Mental Health Week is “Connect for Mental Health”, emphasising the proactive measures we can adopt to nurture and support positive mental health and wellbeing for ourselves and our communities

Connect for mental health focuses on four areas (taken from the QMH Website):

1

Connect with self: Take care of yourself, do something you enjoy, make healthy choices, and seek help when needed

2

Connect with community: Create supportive and inclusive environments, look after one another, and connect with culture Show kindness and initiate connection with those who are struggling

3.

Connect with others: Foster relationships with loved ones, friends, family, and mob. Spend time with others and make meaningful connections.

4.

Connect with nature: Take a break from technology, spend time outdoors, embrace mindfulness, and take care of the world around you.

Sponsorship opportunities are now open for local businesses who wish to support this year ’ s walk. Options start from $100. Sponsorship enables the participation fee to be kept to a reasonable amount to allow more members of our community to participate.

This year ’ s walk will have an additional option of a half walk - Farnborough to Lammermoor. More details coming in June with registrations also expected to open then.

Meet Your Local Seasiders QCWA Branch

Yeppoon Seasiders QCWA branch is a group of energetic and enthusiastic women who meet regularly for friendship and to support their local community while enjoying belonging to a prestigious organisation with a great reputation.

The QCWA website explains it well- Empowering women through education and health is a priority for the QCWA and it drives many of the reasons women from all walks of life join us We are an active community of women who, together, improve the lives of Queensland families living in regional, rural and remote areas It’s about friendship, community and connection

Yeppoon Seasiders are called a twilight group because we meet in the evenings. Our Branch motto is fun, friendship and community. Our membership is varied- some of our members work full time and others work part time or are retired. We have a mix of ages in our branch- some members have small or school aged children, others have grandchildren. Part of the magic of Seasiders is the mix of members and the wonderful relationships we have formed with each other

13

As Seasiders we have a couple of major fundraising events each year. These events provide the funds necessary to support community and State projects. Our main local project is the provision of Care Packs to those in need in our community. A Care Pack is a bag of toiletries and personal items that can be given to someone in need- they make be escaping a domestic violence situation, experiencing homelessness or a variety of other reasons. We provide our bags twice a year to over 10 local charities and organisations for distribution. Our Care Packing months are May and October. In between times we are collecting items from the community and members, sewing the bags and fundraising. We have drop off points at Stir and Stitch, Yeppoon Health and Fitness and the Wesleyan Methodist Church and welcome donations Each bag costs $38 to put together It is an option to donate this amount to the Branch to support a bag We have a wide variety of skills within our branch, and we are all learning new things all the time It’s certainly not ‘all about tea and scones ’ for us Although we do have some excellent cooks We also have many of our members involved in the Country Kitchens program

Many of our members enjoy craft Our branch has craft evenings on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month Everyone is welcome and members regularly share their skills and projects Yeppoon Seasiders also has a partnership with Amanda at Stir and Stitch and we hold regular workshops there which are open to members of the public and our members. Our branch will celebrate its fourth birthday in July. We are very proud of our Branch and its growth and connections to our local community. As part of the QCWA organisation each year we have a Country of Study, this year it is Morocco and we also have a Product of the Year. For 2024 it is pumpkin. We invite everyone to join us and would love to meet women who are interested in checking us out and seeing what we offer.

We meet monthly at our new space in the TAFE building at 26 Tabone St. We have a regular and very informal coffee catch up each month at the bbq area at Ross Creek and our Craft evenings are the 2 nd and 4 th Wednesdays of each month. Follow us on

The Giving Fund - Update

The Giving Fund was established in August of 2022 We wanted a unique way to be able to give back to our local community and support those who may need a little extra support during a challenging time his concept came about because we know sometimes when the chips are down and you feel like you could benefit from going to something like a yoga class or a day retreat, the funds may not necessarily be there for you to participate. The idea is that the fund will be able to support those who need some soul therapy when they need it most. This is our version of paying it forward.

Since its inception, The Hub Giving Fund has distributed over $2000 into the community where recipients have been able to attend workshops, classes and day retreats. This is mostly due to the generosity of local businesses who have made contributions to The Giving Fund.

We have had recent contributions from two local businesses:

Creating Calm - offering a deluxe pass to One Day Self Love Retreat on Sunday 5th May. Nominations are currently open on The Hub Capricorn Coast Facebook Page and will be drawn on Wednesday 1st May

Recharge Remedial Therapies - Brian is generously offering a 1 x 1 hour stressreduction/tune-up each week for community members who genuinely can’t afford to pay for a session To nominate someone in need, head here https://bit ly/givingfundnomination

If you would like to make a contribution on behalf of your business, please get in touch via email - thehubcapricorncoast@gmail com

When Words are Not Enough

SeeChange Counselling & Hypnosis

Antonio Damasio, a neuroscientist has stated in regard to trauma ‘We use our minds not to discover facts but to hide them.’ ( 1999)

Our memory can be our protector in times of trauma but to unpack that from our system we need to have resources to protect us. Therapists can work with us to discover what works best for us individually before and then as we work through the trauma.

Having trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, where somatic therapy and psychotherapy combine to help heal the disconnection between the body and mind; I have learned that although a client would like a quick fix ‘the slower we go the faster we get there ’ We don’t want to short circuit our nervous systems! Without a window of tolerance, we don’t have the tools to cope with the emotions that come up

Our body gives us symptoms that are from the emotions and thoughts that have accumulated over time Our body can demonstrate unresolved survival action tendencies from the event. Words are often not enough to transform and integrate from traumatic event/s. Movement and actions are part of the SP therapy. The first phase of SP therapy is to gain a tool kit of resources to give us the abilities

that are missing This helps us to work towards a positive change and relief from suffering and improvement of our wellbeing

A Year of Integrating Mindfulness

Here’s your May installment of the Integrating Mindfulness Series

How is your year of integrating mindfulness going? It’s important to take time to reflect on your progress, what’s going well, what’s not working that you might like to tweak? A journal is great for this reflection, it can also show you how far you have come and the benefits you are experiencing from being more mindful

This month I would encourage you to continue with your daily meditation practice and doing things more mindfully throughout the day, but I would also like to share a new meditation to bring into the mix It’s a beautiful breathing meditation It’s one of my favourites, and you can do mini versions throughout the day when you are feeling stressed to hit that reset button!.

A breathing meditation is simply getting into your preferred meditation position, gently closing your eyes, spending a short time scanning your body and then bringing your attention to your breathing, noticing the breath, how your body moves with the breath, and how it feels to simply stay with the breath. That’s it!

Again, a wandering mind is very normal, when the mind wanders simply let go of the distraction and come back to the breath. Set your timer for 20-30 minutes and go with the flow. Enjoy!

May Moon Musings

Your monthly guide to what's happening in the astrological world

As we settle into Taurus season we welcome the New moon in this fixed earth sign on Wednesday 8th may at 1:21pm.

When the sun and moon meet each other in the sign of Taurus, we are called back into our earthly existence, to remember everything that grounds us here on the earth This New moon is a time to stop and smell the roses, to slow down in general and pay attention, give thanks and show gratitude for all that we have. That is the Motto for Taurus “I HAVE”.

Taurus energy can bring our finances and spending habits into focus so a good time to pay attention to what comes in and what goes out

Safety and security are also highlighted under this new moon, do you feel safe in your physical body? Have you set yourself up for a future that feels grounded and secure? Do you appreciate all that you have or are you constantly on the search for more?

Taurus is ruled by the planet Venus, the planet of love! Delve into the senses during this lunation and really focus on slowing down and enjoying all that this world has to offer!

Thursday the 23rd May at 11:52pm we shift gears into Taurus’s opposite sign, Scorpio. While Taurus was highlighting our connection to our physical body here on earth, Scorpio calls for a deeper connection to self

25

The water sign of scorpio is here to uncover what lies beneath and reach into our deepest fears and deepest desires. Are you living in alignment with your deepest needs? Are you afraid to truly show yourself? To share your desires? Scorpio invites us to shine a light on the feelings we keep in the hidden depths of ourselves, the shadows…

While this energy can feel intense for some, it is also a supportive time for transformation. You have to go through it, to truly feel it and bring it into the light where it can be transformed into something magical!!

Water and earth are the elements to work with this month so any way you can incorporate them into your New moon or full moon practice is beneficial

The fixed signs will feel these the most, Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius

Have a look at where Taurus and Scorpio land in your own natal chart to see the themes for you personally
