Moving into March

Your monthly message from the Editor

Hello!

Welcome to March!

This year seems to be already flying by or is that just me getting older? I’m not sure about you, but it seems this year is about managing the juggle. We’ve all got lots going on, lots to organise and lots to manage. It really is a tough gig keeping all the balls in the air. I’ve come to realise though, sometimes you need to let a ball or two drop just to keep your sanity. And if one or two drop momentarily, it’s not the end of the world. Life still goes on and the world keeps revolving. It’s impossible to do ALL the things in this day and age without running yourself ragged in the process. Self care continues to be a top priority for me, and I was reminded of this throughout February with the running of Women’s Health Month alongside Tim from Intra-Mind.

Being our first event and with minimal time in the planning process, a lot was done by the seat of our pants Which meant at times, we didn’t always have a clear path It was a huge learning curve of learning to trust the process and finding flow Keep reading to check out the wrap up from Women’s Health Month!

The 8th of March is International Women’s Day and this year The Hub Capricorn Coast is collaborating with Katie from Coastal Kinesiology to bring another fantastic event to our community It will be an evening to recognise some wonderful women in our community and the work that they are doing. Nominations are currently open for Recognition on the night, so be sure to head over to the Facebook event and nominate your favourite Rookie in Business, Community Spirit, and Mentor. All the rest of the details on International Women’s Day can be found in the article in this month’s edition.

Experience Energetic Healing with Kelly from FelkEather

Sensitive Empath Kelly Vains from FelkEather provides energetic healing in her calm and serene space upstairs at 3/22 James Street. Recently, I had the privilege of experiencing a session with Kelly so that I could share with you the benefits of working with an energetic healer

Kelly’s presence is calm and warm Her room inviting and comfortable, the perfect space to surrender Before my session, I was feeling very stressed, overwhelmed, and exhausted from life and all the hats that I had been wearing. Kelly made sure that I was comfortable throughout the process, and I am certain I may have even started snoring there at one point as my body was able to completely relax for the first time in a very long time!

Kelly is an energetic healer who is trauma informed with a background in counselling She takes on a collaborative approach and works with her team of guides to help you access the deep energetic layers that is holding onto or storing trauma in the body The process that Kelly uses is somewhat like reiki, however there is no touching of the body at any stage, making it very unique Establishing safety and holding deep space for deep nervous system work form part of Kelly’s ethics By allowing the body to be seen and heard, it allows the story to be processed and shifted

05

Quantum Healing Tools are used throughout the process to support the nervous system through processes of clearing energetic cording, energetic enmeshment and helping the body to move out of the hypervigilant stage of survival

Kelly believes that we should be having more conversations about energy and that grounding should be a part of our daily lives, as so many of us aren’t grounded Grounding can be as simple as spending a few minutes outside, barefoot on the grass to allow the body to connect in with the earth’s electrical currents Life is so busy and hectic these days and this is a simple, yet beautiful and effective way of reconnecting with your body and breath.

Throughout my session I felt completely safe and relaxed as Kelly and her team of guides worked together Afterwards I felt very relaxed and at peace, a feeling that I hadn’t experienced in quite some time. When I got home afterwards, I had the longest nap I had had in quite a while and continued to feel more at peace and at ease If you ’ re feeling frazzled and scattered, I would highly recommend connecting with Kelly and having a chat about how you may benefit from working with her. Head to https://www facebook com/FelkEather or email info@felkeather com

Kate Mahood Set to Entertain for International Women's Day Event

Kate Mahood will entertain at this year ’ s The Hub Capricorn Coast & Coastal Kinesiology

International Women’s Day Event next Friday evening 8th March at Stir & Stitch. The evening will kick off at 6pm and attendees are encouraged to ‘frock up ’ for a great night of connection, recognition, delectable food, and fun.

Nominations have been received for the Recognition Categories of Community Spirit, Mentor and Rookie Business. Rather than take the traditional approach to awards on International Women’s day, the duo have opted to open the floor to recognise women across the community who are out there making a difference whether that be in the community, through mentorship or though innovations with their business

Amanda and the team from Stir and Stitch will provide delightful canapes for the evening under the fig tree and fairy lights

Tickets are selling quickly, so if you are intending on joining in on this year ’ s International Women’s Day celebrations, Katie and Shanelle recommend that you to head to The Hub Capricorn Coast Facebook page and grab your tickets while there are still some available.

Women’s Health Month Set to Become an Annual Event

From free coffee mornings to community barbecues, art workshops and a month-long line up of speakers and events, the first Women’s Health Month has been hailed a success by organiser Tim Chan from Intra-Mind.

February was a month for the ladies with over 50 events held shining the spotlight on some very important issues for women, allowing them access to affordable talks, workshops and events. Topics ranged from physiotherapy, to yoga, meditation, tuning forks, learning to read menstrual cycles, nutrition, finance, recovering from burnout and embracing creativity, to name a few that were covered.

Women came together throughout the month to learn and grown. New connections and friendships were forged in the process.

The event would not have been possible without the help from local sponsors and supporters including Zest Health & Wellness, Leanne Smith Marriage Celebrant The Attic, Lure Living, Aphrodite Art School, Coastal Meats, Coastal Kinesiology, Seaside Aesthetics, Forest Fields Campstay and The Hub Capricorn Coast

Event organisers & collaborators Tim Chan and Shanelle Schick would also like to thank the incredible line up of speakers that hosted talks and workshops throughout the month:

Next February will see it happen all again. Keep an eye out on social media and of course in The Hub Capricorn Coast for all the details once they are confirmed.

A Massive ‘Thank You’ to our Speakers & Presenters

Narcissism - Fact or Fiction

I recently was part of a counselling webinar that was about narcissism and how to help survivors of narcissistic abuse in love relationships

I was surprised to learn that it is a spectrum disorder of its own. There are hundreds of blogs on having lived experiences from victims of narcissism Some influencers are ascribing any bad behaviour as narcissism. That type of blanket ascribing is not helpful.

There is a tendency I’ve noticed, for people wanting to diagnose narcissism in partners however what becomes apparent is what the client believes. It is about treating the client; we are not treating the perpetrator ( They would not recognise that in themselves!)

Self-identify and cognitive dissonance ( a sate in which there is a difference between your experience or behaviour and your beliefs about what is true) are the core issues of survivors of narcissism

The survivor has gone through trying to please the narcissist and waiting for that day that will never come

There are many issues to work through and to help the client with such as trust boundaries, the guilt and shame, and possibly re parenting their children. The list is rather endless but there is optimism for change There are many local therapists that can help with this trauma I have studied Sensorimotor Psychotherapy trauma Therapy. When talk is not enough. We learn to work with the wisdom of the body

A year of Integrating Mindfulness

Welcome back to our series on integrating mindfulness, how did you do with last month’s body scan meditation? If you missed it why not head back to the Feb edition and give it a go!

Let’s start this month by exploring the difference between meditation and mindfulness. Simply put, mindfulness is a lifestyle, being mindful throughout your day. Meditation is a formal practice that helps you be mindful. Meditation is a gym workout for the mind that helps you be mindful

Motivation to keep meditating is really important! Think about why you want to meditate, what changes are you trying to create? Once you have an idea of your ‘why’ set some meditation goals that are applicable in the ‘real world ’ Start by asking yourself:

- How do I no longer want to feel?

- How do I want to feel?

- Why is this meaningful to me? What impact will it have on my life

This gives you your WHY and WHAT, and meditation is your HOW to achieve them. This month continue with your body scan meditation, if you feel like a change try a hearing meditation – as it sounds, just listen, set a timer for 20 minutes, close your eyes and listen without getting attached to any sounds, let your ears playfully dash from sound to sound.

The Magic Pill

Everyone is chasing the magic pill The quick solution to their problems. This is made more challenging as we live in a time where we are constantly being told lies. You see it everywhere, every day. This product will make your teeth whiter, this product will get you skinny quickly, this book will make you rich. The question is…. “Is it true?”

At times, there is validity in their claims. You may get results; but do they come at a cost and there is also the question as to whether the results are permanent?

However, the real question should be, why do we find it so difficult to be healthy and happy? Why do we become so lost, disconnected and therefore desire such drastic, but quick solutions?

Society today is built on consumerism Buy, buy, buy, and then buy some more Social media, television and marketing campaigns are constantly telling us that something is missing from our lives and only this specific thing will fill the void.

This creates a deeply ingrained belief that our current life is lacking, so we continue to look for solutions outside of ourselves This perpetuates the feelings of loss, disconnection, and incompletion

Being raised in this environment, we are seeing an ever-increasing number of people with mental health issues. We are educated in schools where we are told that to be successful in life, we need to achieve a certain standard. We are judged on our work, personal views, cars, clothes, homes and

19

bodies, the list goes on. From my observations within clinic, this is creating a foundation of vulnerable, lonely people who believe they are broken, incomplete and just not good enough

It is nearly impossible for anyone to feel at peace with being themselves as the standard is constantly changing. No one really knows who they are anymore, we are all just trying to fit in, stand out, find our place and so on.

What is the magic pill? It may look like a new television, new home, new car, new haircut, ayahuasca plant medicine journey, Ozempic Weight loss medication, and these are just to name a few At first, we may feel the shift, we experience a high from the change and relief Eventually, things will plateau and soon the old feelings return We find ourselves back where we started So, what can we do if there is no magic pill?

What if the magic is in the mundane, simple aspects of living?

What if the feelings and experiences we ’ re searching for come from structure, discipline and repetition?

Most problems come from an imbalance in the physical body. Then, with the overthinking about them, they become mental and emotional problems. Regardless of what is happening

in your life and your world, it is essential that you still:

Move your body

Connect with loved ones

Breathe fresh air and connect with nature

Drink plenty of quality water

Ingest adequate nutrition including minerals and vitamins

Not one single problem can be fixed with a single product, service or experience if you are not doing the groundwork. To maintain the change, you need to create a strong foundation

20

A chiropractic adjustment will not be sustained if you go home and continue to live the same way

A naturopathic cleanse will not give long-term results if you revert to your general eatinghabits after the cleanse Your teeth will not stay white after whitening if you continue to smoke, drink dark beverages and avoid good consistent oral hygiene

Maybe the magic is these 3 little words……..Choice, Connection and Consistency. It’s not easy with so much outside influence. We have to unravel ourselves from the bullshit.

This is why it is important to get help. Hire a Coach, have a Kinesiology Session, do a program, learn how to show up for yourself every day!

Start with how you feel and get clear on how you want to feel.

Challenge yourself to change that with internal action. Not sure how that works, reach out, there are many teachings, courses and ways to find out how to do personal work. Good luck, I believe in you.

PS. There is no magic place either. It’s just life. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s not. How you continue is up to you.

March Moon Musings

Your monthly guide to what's happening in the astrological world

March 10th at 7pm QLD time, brings us our final New Moon of this zodiac year!!

This new Moon is in the sensitive, water sign of Pisces. As the final sign of the zodiac, Pisces is here to give us the final doorway of surrendering before the fresh energy of Aries enters the sky!

As a water sign, pisces has the greatest level of sensitivity among the other signs because of their ability to tap into the collective energy around them We also have Saturn (planet of Karma & lessons) hovering nearby in Pisces too, which can shine an even brighter spotlight on what we need to leave behind us.

The journey of the last 12 months through the zodiac has brought new teachings along the way and this New Moon is asking you to put it all into perspective Connect in with your truest self and leave behind all that is limiting your future!

Neptune (Planet of Intuition, illusions & dream) is all in Pisces at the moment, which is its natural home. So this just brings us deeper into connection with our higher self, with god, with the universe (whatever it means to you and how you see it).

Neptune is making that connection stronger.

So as a New Moon, it is still about planting those seeds of intention for the next cycle but in order to do that in our most authentic way we need to leave behind the beliefs that hold us back! Dive inwards, sit quietly and really tune into your inner world and listen closely…….

Have a look to where Pisces sits in your chart to see what area of life is highlighted at this time.

March 25th see ’ s the first Full Moon for the Zodiac year in the air sign of Libra!

5 days prior, on the 20th March the Sun entered our pioneering, fire sign of Aries so WELCOME to the Astrological New Year!!! Now the moon sit’s in Aries partner or opposite sign of Libra

The dynamic between these signs draws attention to the our connection with ourselves along with our connection to the other. While the Aries sun wants us to shine bright and lead the way, the Moon in libra is craving balance and connection with others

While there is still a lot of Pisces energy in the sky during this time you will need to be aware of your need to “keep the peace ” . Make sure you check in with yourself before saying yes to too much

Libra energy is very social so this is a great time to connect with friends and collaborate. As the Full moon offers us a time to let go, have a think about where

23

you may be sacrificing your own beliefs or desires for the sake of others?

Or has your Aries energy been a little intense and maybe you have been finding it difficult to accept others points of view?

This is a time to learn to share what your feel, don’t be afraid to be who you really are!

“I Still DO

Why do couples choose to renew their wedding vows? When does a Renewal of Vows take place?

There are so many reasons why a couple might decide to renew their vows of marriage and just as many occasions where it might occur Perhaps they will be celebrating a milestone anniversary I’ve shared in vow renewals to celebrate 1st anniversaries, 10th anniversaries, 25th anniversaries, 40th anniversaries, even a 50th anniversary vow renewal which was the 5th time for this couple, they renewed their vows every 10 years throughout their entire marriage.

Of course, you don’t have to wait for your anniversary to come round! Perhaps you just want to stand in front of lots of family and friends if the wedding was originally held with only a few guests present. Or maybe there wasn’t much money at the time and now you want something more elaborate. Perhaps the wedding was a disaster, and a complete “ re do” will replace those memories.

Couples who have had some rocky times in their relationship often choose to renew their vows to reaffirm their commitment to each other. There are no legal requirements when you renew vows, this ceremony is simply an opportunity to reaffirm your love and commitment, to share what each has learned about the other during your time together, to reflect on the highlights

Leanne Smith Leanne Smith Civil Celebrant
” 25

and challenges experienced throughout the marriage and often to acknowledge the addition of children and grandchildren to the family along the way.

The ceremony may follow the same order as a wedding but is usually much more relaxed, and often includes sharing a story about the highlights of the marriage, “I Do” promises, an exchange of vows, giving of gifts or new rings, or re-giving of the original wedding rings, and signing of a commemorative certificate with your witnesses … whenever you make important promises there should be witnesses ;)

Rituals such as washing each other’s hands (symbolising washing away the old and preparing for a new beginning) or cleansing the original wedding rings, even adding a champagne toast, are all popular choices and add some lovely photo opportunities for the ceremony.

If you are thinking about renewing your wedding vows, let’s talk about it!

The Electric Body Paradigm

Paradigms are like having different sets of glasses you can look through Shifting paradigms is like looking through different lenses, each providing a unique perspective and way of making sense of the world

Let's take someone presenting with chronic lower back pain for example. A remedial massage therapist might see an issue with certain muscles - a chiropractor a misalignment of the spine - a neuroscience based pain therapist the brain unnecessarily creating pain - a psychologist mental/emotional issues - a naturopath nutritional deficiencies, and so on. Similarly, there's different ways of looking at other health issues.

Each of the paradigms mentioned above has the potential to be effective. Which one works best in any given situation depends on many variable factors. One factor is the patient's understanding of what's wrong and what's the best way to fix it. Adam Foster's podcast that I linked to in the February edition of The Hub Capricorn Coast explains this well.

When I learnt to massage over 30 years ago, that was the only lens (paradigm) I had, so I saw medial knee pain largely in terms of muscles and ligaments etc. When I later learnt the principles and philosophy of Traditional Chinese Medicine as part of my acupressure training, I could also see the same issue as a problem with Qi (energy) flowing through meridian pathways In more recent years I have acquired other lenses through which to 'see' a problem, and different ways of helping resolve it

One that I'm finding particularly safe and effective is to look at the body, including the brain, in terms of the electrical activity that drives it, and ways of harnessing and influencing it using a comfortable, very low level input to effect beneficial change

Electricity plays a vital role in how the body functions The brain uses tiny electric signals sent along the nervous system to communicate commands to muscles, organs and glands instantaneously From making our hearts beat and lungs breathe to enabling digestion and movement, electric currents are the incredible force behind keeping us alive and active every moment of every day.

27

Ancient Egyptians and Greeks used electric catfish to alleviate pain and swelling

18th century: Luigi Galvani discovered frog leg twitches from static electricity, linking nerves and electricity.

Recent: Many big advances including development of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) pain relief units (and further massive leaps in its development to produce Scenar technology that has led to the German re-designed Physiokey), Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) and electrical acupuncture point stimulators.

While more research is needed to fully understand the effectiveness of electrotherapy, the existing evidence, and my own experience using it, suggests that it can be a valuable tool for many individuals. With new innovations and advancements being made in the field, the potential of electrotherapy is only set to increase in the future.
