Supporting others in reclaiming the parts of themselves that they have previously left behind in order to survive is what drives Holistic Counsellor Jody Shaw to work with women in mentoring them to navigate their way through life. By teaching them what life is reflecting in the energetic field that surrounds them so that they can return to the truth of who they are and so they are able to awaken to their true essence. This leads to a process of transformation. It has taken us a lifetime to get here, and Jody is most passionate about working with those who are devoted to their own healing journey. Not everyone is ready.

When she realised that her childhood trauma had become too much to hold and was severely impacting her ability to mother her baby, sometimes laying on the lounge floor with no ability to get up and care for her or herself, Jody knew something had to change. She had been in and out of the mental health system, with nothing making a difference. After being medicated and hospitalised, seeing every kind of therapist and counsellor she could think of to get her life back on track, one thing that stood out, was that none of the therapists appeared to be thriving themselves nor had they done any of their own deep and transformative work. Jody felt like just a number and was slapped with numerous mental health labels one after the other. These were merely band aids in place of any kind of true lasting healing or addressing the root cause. Being put on Lithium was the final straw for her.

A counsellor who picked up that Jody had experienced backside rape around the age of 8 and that experience was the basis of how she experienced life up until age 36. This experience was the motivating factor behind her training in Holistic Counselling. It transformed her life completely and led her to discovering many trauma therapies that helped her to heal her body and soul from such a violent violation as a child. This led to many family therapies, therapeutic parenting and Aware and Connected Parenting so that she was finally able to bond with her child and heal what they had both experienced in her daughter’s early years.

Jody runs a private clinic in Yeppoon and her sessions incorporate many different holistic modalities with a focus on the integration of emotion and trauma. Her own healing and transformation have been a fiveyear fulltime journey and she uses this experience to help her clients to navigate through their healing journey.

“If clients are devoted to their own journey, their whole life can be transformed. How deep or how far it goes is entirely up to the client” says Jody who will work with you systematically to honour the whole family system.
