Tracy Makes Yoga Accessible

Yoga had long been a go-to for Tracy Cole when her world was in chaos and like many, 2020 was a real turning point for her When everything was going offline, Tracy made the decision to bring her yoga classes online to allow her students to be able t access fundamental self-care.

After spending several years as a PT in gyms and having her own inconsistent yoga practice for 20 years, Tracy took the leap to complete her yoga teaching training. Now teaching

regular weekly classes locally on the coast on the beachfront, weekly Zoom classes, private classes in her new studio and hosting a digital library of classes that can be accessed at any time for your convenience

While working in gyms, Tracy taught Les Mills Body Balance classes and fell in love with the yoga component She had always borrowed DVD’s from the local library and done prerecorded classes but was initially hesitant to complete the teacher training, taking 10 years before committing to sign up to teaching classes

Tracy’s style of yoga includes Hatha (gentle), yin and restorative. Her classes also have a focus on trigger balls which are used to target acupressure points on the body. Acupressure helps to release emotions from the body.

Over the years, yoga has taught Tracy to slow down, and she found that the most value was in laying still – not doing headstands and all the fancy manoeuvres that are frequently seen in yoga practices nowadays. Tracy says, “The goal is to reconnect mind and body, to rebalance the energy systems of yin and yang ” .

Tracy’s private yoga studio recently opened above Yogolicious Café in James Street, a space she shares with Montana Schmidt from The Infinite Life. This beautiful welcoming space is ideal for 1:1 and 1:3 sessions. In these sessions, Tracy can tailor an individual practice for you including breathing, guided meditation and gentle movement

5

One of Tracy’s goals has been to reach community who generally wouldn’t be seen in a yoga class due to their pre-conceived ideas of what happens in yoga classes “Real yoga is awkward, playful, silly and fun” She is passionate about bringing joy to people and encourages us to stop and breathe and have more time, because time is something that we don’t get back

Tracy is currently studying yoga therapy to also include the aspect of psychological support in her classes She is looking forward to being able to support people to work through what comes up for them in a session, as movement of the body can also move emotions at times as well.

On her schedule of regular classes are Sunday morning 6am at the beachfront and Thursday evening 6pm also at the beachfront, featuring live music from her partner Andrew with his acoustic guitar. These times may change as we come into the cooler months, so be sure to like and follow Yoga with Tracy on Facebook and Instagram to keep up to date.

If you can’t make it to a class, Tracy has you covered with weekly Zoom classes at 6.45am on Wednesday morning for a donation or you can access her monthly membership for only $12.50 and access a library of classes at any time you choose and practice at home

For more information on Tracy’s classes, head to her Facebook page or Instagram or check out her website https://yogawithtracy com au/

A Splendiferous Way to Celebrate Solstice & Yule

“Gathering under the winter night's sky, our Yule ritual and gathering ignites the spirit of the season. The crackling bonfire dances in the darkness, casting flickering shadows upon us as we come together to celebrate the winter solstice, a time of introspection and renewal Amidst the laughter and camaraderie, we honour ancient traditions with the Yule ritual, weaving together symbols of light and rebirth As the longest night unfolds, we embrace the promise of the returning sun, finding solace and joy in the company of loved ones and the timeless magic of this special time of year ”

The 21st of June marks the longest night on the annual calendar and winter solstice. Splendiferous in Rockhampton is hosting “ A Yule Gathering and Ritual” on Friday 21st June from 6pm. You can book via the website www.splendiferoushealth.com.au or check out their Facebook page for more information.

Splendiferous began 7 years ago, originally in Frith’s converted rumpus downstairs at home. After a year there and doing markets as well, the space became too small. Frith began the hunt and finally found the perfect place to move to

From there, the business expanded and now in its current location at 173 Campbell Street Rockhampton, incorporates local artisan’s products to give them a fulltime outlet for selling their wares. Natural therapies and services were also part of the expansion. Splendiferous has received wonderful support from the community over the years and have been able to help many community members, which is what it is all about for Frith.

7

She recalls that life has always been this way, spending school holidays at women ’ s retreats, sound healings, breathwork and more with her mum in the September school holidays in the Byron area This was before it was all the huge trend that it is now, so she’s has always seen as being the weird one in her small country town Being an Aquarius, she fully embraced this label

These days at Splendiferous they still have locally made and supplied products, clothes, incense, books, herbs and of course crystals – Frith’s true love

Splendiferous is the home of many natural and holistic therapies including:

• Access bars

• Antenatal Circle

• Aromatherapy Massage

• Chakra Balance

• Clairvoyant Readings

• Closing Ceremony/Closing of the Bones

• Footspa & Massage

• Holistic Counseling

• House Cleansing & Gridding

• Love Ritual

• Massage/Kinesiology /Reiki

• Pelvic Massage/Womb Release

• Readings

• Reiki 1 Course

• Reiki & Crystal Healing

• Tarot Reading

• Tea Leaf Reading

• Women’s Full Moon Ceremony

• Yoni Steam

Plus coming in August is the first Wild & Wise Women’s Wellness Weekend which will see a weekend retreat come to Rockhampton, making it something different to other ‘retreats’ that are already out there By keeping it in town, it helps make the weekend more affordable as there are no accommodation costs. A goal in the planning process was to keep the costs as affordable as possible for as many to attend. During the weekend there will be a variety of sessions that participants can choose to attend. More details and tickets for the retreat can be found on the Splendiferous website.

The First School Holiday Artist Run Workshops Started with a Bang

With thanks to Rockhampton Regional Council funding and local artists, Wild Mount Morgan Clay, The Twisted Weaver and A Shade of Allusion. ‘This is the best day ever!’ says 7 year old Bella. Our first day 15 local kids joined three artists at the Wild Mount Morgan Clay Studio for a full day of creative activities. The facilities have recently had an upgrade and now include a colourful tepee which provided the day’s meeting place, a covered concrete slab for an outside lunch area, swing set and hammock, plus barista made coffee area. The second day unfortunately had to be postponed to the following Wednesday and as a result was a smaller group.

Founder of Wild Mount Morgan Clay, Louise Jones is the brains behind this event. ‘ I have run school holiday activities before, but am aware that the costs of materials and facilitation, especially by qualified artists, is too much for the local family to afford. I applied for a grant and Rockhampton Regional Council were very happy to support a two day event’ she reports

The first day started with paint pouring by A Shade of Allusion Pauline is well versed in the many and various methods of pouring paint and demonstrated these to an impatient audience The results were beautiful and displayed a huge variety of colour and patterns The children, not content with pouring just one, kept experimenting with different cups of colours and the results on canvas

Dee, The Twisted Weaver, then took the group under the tepee in weaving mandalas using colourful wool Some of the kids needed some help initially but soon mastered the technique; Rose was the star pupil, taking any spare minute out of the day to continue more weaving. She also was gifted with more materials to take home to continue developing her passion.

As sometimes happens with art, the next class making wind chimes by Wild Mount Morgan Clay didn’t quite go to plan. The kiln firing of the clay leaves needed to build the wind chimes had not been successful. Thanks to a last minute call out for donations the helpers came up with a variety of beads and shells that were threaded onto fishing line

11

and attached to their base. The children enjoyed painting and arranging the hanging chimes.

The last workshop of the day; Monster Mug Making using local chocolate coloured wild clay They rolled slabs of clay and cut out templates read for slab construction The variety of scary monster faces was wonderful, some had 3D eyeballs and teeth These mugs will need to be dried for at least a week then bisque fired before glazing with clear finish so they can be used for drinking followed by a second firing

The Second day of workshops began with T shirt printmaking; simple printing using potato designs entertained the creative kids; Rory loved printing his pig face in pink and Bella had great success with her dragon head The T shirts were hung up to dry

Once again Dee used her mastery with wool to weave her magic using pipe cleaners to create wild twisted animals. Some cute snakes and some lifelike lizards which decorated arms for the rest of the day were the result.

Louise from Wild Mount Morgan Clay took the small birds workshop in which the children created small finches using pinch pot techniques and decorated them with slip. Local yellow fireclay was used for this activity and will also be fired to Bisque before returning to their artists.

Pauline from A Shade of Allusion led the group for the final activity which was bark painting. To the uninformed this sounds like a simple task, but Pauline had taken the time to create miniature butterflies, lizards and rocks from air drying clay so that the kids could paint and place these on the hard flat bark so that they sat on a painted landscape. The kids took great pains to create detailed and beautiful backgrounds for their lizards using acrylic paint

Thanks to great survey responses and parent feedback the group of artists hope to offer these types of artists run workshops again during the next school holidays In the words of Deb (parent) ‘thank you for generously giving your time and effort to help with this workshop and sparking creativity in the minds of our kids I truly believe a creative mind helps to ‘think outside the box’ with problem solving and many other areas in life ‘

Not only does this kind of event benefit the children involved, but fosters collaboration of community, involvement of volunteers and exposure to art practice and promotion of local artists. Thanks to Rockhampton Regional Council for helping to fund this wonderful local initiative.

Take a Dance with Chance.

Take A Chance

Take a chance be brave, she heard a little voice cry

And she realized the voice must have come from somewhere deep inside

This voice that used to be, a loud and strong roar, had become so meek and small she wondered if it would ever return at all. But now here it was returning, to her once again, almost as soft as a whisper from a true and honest friend. And she knew if she listened closely, the voice would grow once more. But she also had to take action not just sit and wait at the door.

And so the new journey began to become who she was always meant to be.

To step into her power and to let the world see.

Do you often leave things to chance or do you prefer to know what’s coming next?

Taking chances is definitely something that is outside my comfort zone (I like my little security bubble) but it’s also something I am trying to embrace and do more of.

13

Because unfortunately growth doesn’t happen in the comfort zone. It’s the stepping out of selves where the expansion truly begins. And trust me I get it, this can scary AF, but by taking small steps and little risks we can start to ease ourselves into the unknown. For our true selves, all we are and all we can be is all on the other side of fear; we just have to brave enough to face it.

So those are my little words of wisdom this month and I hope it can help inspire and encourage you to take some chances I will be stepping out of my comfort zone this month by having a stall at some local markets, so be sure to keep an eye on my socials to find out when and where I do like a good chat so please stop by and say ‘hi’

Community Unity Lights Up Lindy

This month, we’d like to shine a spotlight on another of our nominees from the Community Spirit category of our local International Women’s Day Event, Lindy O’Neil. Nominated for “Being a leader in compassion, community and kindness. She supports so many practitioners, attending events, giving referrals and opening the space for people to be seen and visible with their work.”

Having grown up here, Lindy returned to the Capricorn Coast in 2020 after many years working and travelling in Australia and abroad She found that community spirit was missing and that a central place for a lot of wellness events and groups was also missing This led her to creating the Yeppoon Conscious Community Facebook Group in an effort to bring community together The group has

continued to grow since its inception and now has more than five and a half thousand members It has become a focal reference point for locals to access and promote information and events of a holistic nature

Lindy was also one of the founding members of the Yeppoon Conscious Dance group almost 3 years ago This group meets almost every Sunday morning at Lammermoor Beach for meditation, movement and connection It’s for the community, by the community All are welcome to attend For more details, head to the Yeppoon Conscious Community Group

A huge congratulations to Lindy for her nomination and much appreciation for what you do to bring community together in unity and connection!

Stress, Pain & the Vascular System

There's so many possible factors involved in pain, including back pain Today we'll have a look at the role of stress, its link to vascular (blood vessel) health, and how stress reduction treatments can help. We'll use back pain as an example, though it also applies to many instances of pain and ill health.

While the causes of chronic back pain can be multifaceted, one very important, yet often overlooked, factor is the role of stress and anxiety in impairing vascular function, and how that relates to pain and ill health. By addressing the stress-vascular connection, those of us suffering from chronic back pain can find a more comprehensive and effective path to relief.

The link between stress, anxiety, and vascular dysfunction is well-established. Chronic stress triggers the release of hormones like cortisol, which can have a detrimental impact on the endothelial cells that line the blood vessels. This impairs the vessels' ability to dilate and respond to changes in blood flow, a process known as endothelial dysfunction. As a result, the body's microcirculation, including the small blood vessels in the back region, becomes compromised

Impaired microvascular function can lead to a cascade of issues that contribute to chronic back pain Restricted blood flow means reduced oxygen and nutrient delivery to the muscles, tendons, and spinal structures in the back This can cause muscle tension, spasms, and nerve irritation, all of which are common symptoms of chronic back pain Additionally, the buildup of waste products and inflammatory mediators due to poor circulation can further exacerbate the problem

17

By addressing the stress and anxiety that underlie this vascular dysfunction, people with chronic back pain can take a significant step towards relief Appropriate physical treatment combined with stress management techniques, such as meditation, and breathing exercises, can help restore the body's natural balance and improve vascular function

When the body is in a state of chronic stress, the sympathetic nervous system is constantly activated, leading to constriction of blood vessels and reduced blood flow Stress-reduction treatments and practices, on the other hand, stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes vasodilation and enhanced flow of fluid through the lymphatic system or blood vessels to an organ or a tissue. This improved vascular function can then translate to reduced muscle tension, decreased inflammation, better overall back health, and reduction of pain, including back pain.

Regular physical activity, another effective stress management tool, can also play a crucial role in improving vascular function. Exercise has been shown to increase the production of nitric oxide, a potent vasodilator, and to promote the growth of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) in the microcirculation. Activities that improve blood flow, such as walking, swimming, or lowimpact aerobics, chronic back pain can further enhance vascular health.

Incorporating a holistic approach that includes stress reduction, and physical treatment, can be a powerful way to address vascular dysfunction that contributes to ill health and pain, including back pain.

Time … Have You Ever Lost It?

SeeChange Counselling & Hypnosis

I do believe time is an illusion. In this 3D human experience, we are using clocks to define it. We use alarms to wake up. We make appointments to be on the same schedule as someone else. We use time as a reference point for our lives.

Have you ever had someone be late to meet you? Naturally the influence of that will impact more than just yourself. It is like the butterfly affect and can have far reaching impacts on others. Some people are always late, and some are always early or on time How does that impact you?

In my hypnosis work I have discovered that all time is now! Yup, past present and future are melded into a timeline that is more vertical than linear What happens now can impact on past and future timelines and visa versa It’s like a giant Rubik’s cube that keeps on clicking into place

Do your dreams ever seem so real that you are certain it is another reality? How is that timeline part of your life here?

People who have experienced loss of time or gaps in time are often known to have had extra ordinary experiences. Out of this world so to say! Whole families have been known to have missing time. It is related to being ‘taken’ by UFOs.

If you are curious about the phenomenon of time, please get in touch for a chat. Maybe you’d like to explore the possibilities the illusion of time impacts your life.

21

A Year of Integrating Mindfulness

Here’s the next installment in Candice’s Series ‘A Year of Integrating Mindfulness’.

Hello June! If you are new please feel free to head back to the Feb edition, or jump on here! By now you are hopefully seeing benefits throughout your day, perhaps a little more productive, less stressed or thinking more clearly

The benefits really can show up in all areas of your life if you allow it That’s not to say you will never feel frustrated or angry – they are emotions that come with being human! But you begin to have the ability to notice less helpful emotions and do something about it

Let’s chat about thoughts and how to use mindfulness to become more aware of them Stress, Anxiety and negative thoughts go hand in hand. The beauty of mindfulness is that we learn not to attach to thoughts so rather than believing them we have some space to observe, question and reframe them.

To work on this, let’s start watching our thoughts in meditation. Just as you have observed your body, breath and hearing, now observe your thoughts. Notice how each thought has a beginning, middle and end. Notice the tone of the thoughts. Notice if the body reacts to the thoughts. Notice the space between the thoughts. Be gentle with yourself!

You can follow a recording of this at The Kindness Couch Podcast (Spotify) and head to episode 4.

Benefits of Breath Work

Recently I went away to the Gold Coast to become a Breath Work Practitioner. Why? I have been incorporating breathwork of some kind into my work for many years It started when I was a Doula and was teaching women the power of conscious breath in labour. I then became a KaHuna Bodywork Practitioner and learnt about using the breath in conjunction with bodywork

Years later I discovered Wim Hof with his breathwork and ice baths and started to incorporate that in my personal life. After doing Wim Hof’s fundamentals program I was able to start incorporating breathwork into my clinic and workshops. I found it was very effective in helping my clients process emotions out of the body It has helped me understand the connection between the body and mind, but also the importance of listening to the body..

What I have absolutely loved about really immersing myself into the art of breathwork, was learning about the body, the function of breath and the nervous system. Without breath there is no life How we breathe impacts the nervous system, how the body responds and then most importantly how we feel.

One symptom I see in my clinic time and time again is pain/pressure in the chest and heart palpitations This is mostly due to unprocessed emotions being trapped in the body Generally, it is grief and worry. In our busy lives we don’t allow time to process feelings. How often do you have a stressful experience and then allow yourself to feel those feeling immediately?

23

Most will go and have a drink, eat something or go on a rant. Rarely do we stop, remove ourselves from the situation and discuss our feelings We don’t identify the feeling and allow it to be felt. This then results in the feeling being stored in the body, and you can imagine how this then will feel after years of repeating.

My main aim with working with my clients is to help them identify how they feel and how they would prefer to feel. Then we go about identifying the unmet needs and the action that needs to be taken to allow them to process the feelings. It is extremely liberating for someone when they release the burden of heavy emotion in the body.

Breathwork has proven to me to be a very effective way to release stress, trauma and emotions from the body. But like any modality, it also depends on the practitioner, their experience, depth and ability to hold a safe and secure space for their client to let go. So I made sure I trained with a trauma informed educator, and was able to really work in a way I feel is safe for my clients.

In breathwork and any modality really, we can go too far. We can push people past their limits and cause more stress and trauma in the body So I am very mindful to listen to the client’s body and move gently with their nervous system. Allowing them to explore what is in the body that needs to be released

Sounds all very mystical and woo woo But it is science This is how your body is designed. You cannot argue with physiology.

My role, is to help you find peace and resilience in your body To feel healthier and happier in daily life. That process really does start with the breath

June Moon Musings

Your monthly guide to what's happening in the astrological world

Welcome to Gemini season!!

New Moon

We kick off the lunation’s of this month with a New Moon in the flirtatious and witty air sign of Gemini on June 6th at 10:37pm

The energy of Gemini is naturally extroverted and social. Gemini loves to talk and share ideas so you may feel like being more social over this period. The new moon invites us to plant seeds for the future, to set our intentions and make our wishes known

Gemini supports the desire for knowledge and learning. A naturally curious sign, Gemini loves to learn new things and isn’t afraid of change.

Is there something you have been wanting to learn?

Is a change of direction needed to create the life you desire? As a mutable energy, Gemini is adaptable and versatile Maybe there is an area of you life where you could use some more of this energy?

Venus, Mercury and Jupiter are all hanging out in Gemini during this lunation so there may be a lot of new ideas coming through and a desire to expand the mind is supported.

While Saturn makes a square aspect to the new moon over in the feeling sign of Pisces, it reminds us not to get too caught up in our heads and lose sight of our emotional world along the way.

Be sure to check in with your heart too.

25

Full Moon

June 22nd Brings us the Full moon at 11:07am in the earth sign of Capricorn.

As the sun shifted into the sign of Cancer only the day before, this combination slows things down a little. The moon is not as comfortable in this sign as Capricorn is less at ease in the world of emotions.

Capricorn is the energy of doing, being useful and productive. The full moon here brings both the Capricorn energy and the Water energy of Cancer into focus, attempting to balance the two.

The full moon invites us to release and shed what is no longer needed, we may see the intentions we set during the Gemini new moon coming to fruition. Balancing the Cancer energy of home, comfort and nurturing with Capricorns need to succeed, provide and find order means to pull back and see where you are over doing it?

Where can you carve out more time for yourself? Maybe you need more structure or discipline to achieve your goals? Can you let go of any resentment you hold for not being fully seen?

The Capricorn full moon supports your desire for more order and strategy but don’t forget to take some down time too

Spekboom -(Elephant Bush)

Hello again Foraging friends, this month we have a very surprising plant that can be found growing in ornamental gardens and pots everywhere around the globe. It is a drought tolerant succulent that is edible both raw and cooked Depending on their growing conditions, some plants taste mild like lettuce and others have a delicious sour lemon taste. The green leaf and purple/brown stemmed variety are the best; variegated varieties tend to be bitter in flavour.

FLOWERS: considered a delicacy in South Africa, they are packed with vitamin C and full of sweet nectar and are edible both raw and cooked

LEAVES: are rich in manganese, cobalt, Vitamin C, iodine, selenium and especially high in magnesium – it is also a good source of micro elements. Can be added to salads, soups and stews or can be pickled as a condiment

MEDICINAL: raw leaves used to treat exhaustion, dehydration and heatstroke Crushed leaves to relieve blisters Juice gargled to relieve sore throats and mouth infections Pulp used to soothe skin rashes, bug stings, and sunburn. In Mozambique, breast feeding mothers eat the leaves to increase milk supply
