Cobar Speedway reunion will be a blast from the past The engines are revving, and the nostalgia is high as the Cobar Auto Club Speedway reunion approaches. Former racers, officials, volunteers and canteen staff from the 1960s through to the 1990s will gather this Saturday night at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club to reminisce about the glory days of the speedway. The reunion promises to be a night of nonstop fun and excitement as old legends such as Tricky Trev, Patty Ward, Nathan Wilson, Lachie McClure, Tony Barklimore and David Chiplen come together to relive their racing past. They will be joined by other past participants to share stories and celebrate their experiences at the speedway. Another former driver, Troy Cook will MC the night. From the intense rivalries on the track to the unforgettable moments of mateship off the track, there is much to reminisce about. Attendees will have the opportunity to test their racing skills on a simulator and look through memorabilia from over the years. Organisers are thrilled to see the excitement building for the event with Marie Lawrence reporting they have received interest from more than 100 people to attend. “We’re looking forward to seeing old friends and reliving the stories,” Marie said. “It’s great to see so many people RSVP. “It’s going to be a fantastic night.”— contributed

Good start to the year for explorers in Cobar area Mining and exploration companies, Manuka Resources and Helix Resources Limited, have both reported encouraging results from their recent drilling activities in the Cobar area. Manuka owns the Wonawinta Silver Project south of Cobar and the Mt Boppy Gold Project at Canbelego and Helix has reported on their Canbelego Joint Venture Project. Manuka’s executive chairman, Dennis Karp reports “the results of the strategic exploration review point to resource upside on our Cobar tenements, particularly in terms of near-mine silver and gold, but also high grade copper opportunities along with zinc and lead”. Helix’s managing director Mike Rosenstreich reports their reverse circulation drilling has intersected “significant” shallow copper mineralisation.
