St John’s swimming stars Touch game ends in a thrilling draw

A thrilling 10-all draw was played out between the Redbacks and Oranges in the Junior Touch 9-12 years competition on Thursday at Ward Oval.

The high scoring match was full of action as Tommy George crossed five times for his Redbacks side.

Zye Russell added another three tries to their tally and Clair Cousins also touched down for a try for the Redbacks.

In reply, Harpa Martin, Mason King and Keelan Atuau recorded doubles for Oranges with Talas Burke and Thomas Knight crossing for a try each to level up the scores.

Talas Burke and London Hyland (Oranges) along with Riley Hunter (Redbacks) earned s Best & Fairest points.

In the other juniors game, Powerade finished with a hard-fought 7-4 win over

A group of 14 St John’s School swimmers has progressed to the Wilcannia-Forbes Diocesan Swimming Carnival after their success at last week’s Cluster carnival at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool. Thomas Knight, Hugh Le Lievre, Talas Burke, Sophia Le Lievre, Ryan Jiang, Joshua Gillette, Tillie Cain, Isabelle Gillette, Harpa Martin and Clair Cousins (pictured above) along with Tommy George, George McDonald, Cooper Trudgett and Nixon Small, will head to Condobolin early next month to compete.

In reply, Charlie Nicholson led the scoring for SpongeBobs with three tries and Riley Bruce crossed for a try also.

Charlie Nicolson, Kasalia Fakahua (Powerade) and Indie Burke (SpongeBobs) shared in the game’s B&F points.

In the Seniors 13-16 years Round 3 matches last week, Raiders accounted for Mad Dogs 9-6 while Gladiators eventually beat Yellow Bellies 17-12 in their high scoring, try-fest of a game. Damon Bruce (3) led the scoring for his Raiders team with Eli Martin (2), Harry Cousins, Axel Fairfull and Rhylee Jeffery (with a try each) their other point scorers.

Oisin McMullen, with four tries, led the charge for Mad Dogs with Ella Oborn adding another two points to their tally with her try. (Female tries are worth double points.)

Jaxon Burke was unstoppable scoring a massive nine tries to help his Gladiators side to a five point win over Yellow Bellies.

Maddie Bruce added six points to their winning tally with her three tries and Billy George and Kai McCosker contributed a point each to Gladiators’ final total.

Tim Eves, Toby Greenwood and Aiden Hyland contributed three tries each to Yellow Bellies’ total of 12 points with Ethan McLeod and Bridgette Negfeldt also scoring for Yellow Bellies.
