A packed congregation welcomes new Anglican minister
After almost 20 years without a resident Anglican minister, Cobar’s St Paul’s Church was packed to capacity on Saturday morning as the community welcomed new minister, Reverend James Daymond. Church members, clergy from other local churches, community leaders and members of the wider Cobar community witnessed the commissioning of Rev’d Daymond in a service conducted by the Right Reverend Mark Calder, Bishop of the Diocese of Bathurst. Local church member, Sharon Huon said it was very exciting to have a resident minister once again. “It is with great delight that we welcome James and his wife, Brittany, to Cobar,” Mrs Huon said. She said Rev’d Daymond’s ministry in Cobar would not be possible without the generous support of the Bush Church Aid Society (BCA), a national body which has supported ministry in the bush for over one-hundred years. BCA has a proud history in helping ministry in Cobar, with the society placing its second ever minister here, the Rev’d Reginald Hawkins, in 1920. Rev’d Daymond said he and his wife Brittany had been made to feel very welcome since arriving in town last month. “The warmth of welcome has been second to none!” he said. In recent ministries, Rev’d Daymond has served in Mudgee and Narromine, following a period of several years in a Sydney parish.
