Harbison confident Cowboys can hog tie the Brewers The highly anticipated Senior Cricket Brewery Shield grand final is set to take place this Sunday, as the Cobar Cowboys prepare to take on the Gilgandra Brewers. Although the two teams did not face each other in the regular season, Gilgandra enters the match as favourites, having finished at the top of the Brewery Shield competition ladder with an impressive average of 225 runs per innings compared to Cobar’s 160 runs. Gilgandra has batted first in all their games, while Cobar has had to chase runs in two out of their three matches. To secure a victory, Cobar will need to make early breakthroughs, as Gilgandra’s opening batsmen are averaging 81 and 29 runs per game. Despite nursing a hamstring injury, Cobar’s top batsman Jay Egan, who averages 46 runs per game, is expected to play a key role in the team’s efforts on Sunday. Cobar Cowboys’ captain Jake Harbison will rally the middle order and look to his bowlers to do a good job for the team. “We know that Gilgandra is a strong team, but we’re ready to give it our all,” Harbison said. “It’s going to be a tough match, but we’re confident that we have what it takes to bring home the Brewery Shield.” Due to this Sunday’s representative grand final, the local 40 Overs competition grand final and presentation night (which were to have taken place this Saturday) have been moved to next Saturday.—contributed
