Visitor numbers are climbing again

Cobar’s tourism industry is looking very buoyant again with visitor numbers for the first three months of 2023 outperforming the statistics for the same period last year.

Cobar Shire Council’s Tourism Manager Demi Smith reported the latest visitor statistics to a recent Tourism & Advisory Committee meeting.

“From January to March this year we’ve had a total of 3,521 visitors to Cobar with 1,154 going through the museum and 2,367 coming into the Visitors Information Centre,” Demi said.

That compares to a total of 2,308 visitors who visited from January to March in 2022.

Demi said of particular note was that Cobar had almost double the visitors this January (1,044) compared to January 2022 (590).

More visitors to The Great Cobar Museum has also translated into more shop sales with souvenir revenue up almost $2,500 on last year.

Demi said continued interest from coach tours has been helping to keep the visitor numbers up.

And we have more coach tours booking in for visits in the coming months.”
