A very well dressed VIEW guest Council closes its carpark

Continued from Page 1.

Mr Vlatko said council would also be revisiting free camping options at the Newey. s still on the agenda.

The matter has taken too long to be decids because it’s been due to a lack of council resources.” re in the process of getting a quote to make it more user friendly for campers, to level it out and widen the gate. s going to be a cost to the club but at the moment, our main customers coming into the club are our campers and travellers. t want to see them just pass through town because they do support the town and the club,” she said.

Mr Vlatko expects the matter will again go out for community consultation and feedback. The Services Club (right next door to couns carpark) which has been hosting free campers on their abandoned bowling greens for a few years, is happy to accommodate the increasing number of free campers passing s secretary/manager Linda Carter said after the council carpark closed last week, the club made more space available to campve been using the second green which is not all weather (it has clay soil and it t be used if it’s wet), but it’s been fine this Linda said.

“It’s a needed service.

“We have toilets but we don’t have power or showers.

“Most of them are self-contained anyway.

“We don’t charge, but many do make a donation and they support the club and also support the town.

“We’ve got some tourist information here from the museum, we can tell them where to go and have a look at things, where they can dump their grey water and where they can shop.

“If anyone says they don’t spend money in town, I beg to differ. They support the club through the bar and restaurant and I’ve seen them coming back with shopping bags from the supermarket and the local shops.

“They like the location, they can walk to shops, come in for a punt, a meal and have a drink as they don’t have to drive home.

“I’d estimate that 99.9 per cent of the visitors are appreciative of having a central place to stay.”

• Dianne Griffiths was the lucky winner of the Cobar Arts Council’s Easter raffle.

• Woohoo, how good are extended Easter long weekends! The Cobar Weekly staff very much enjoyed being able to take last week off but we were however a bit rusty when we returned to the office on Monday. That was all quickly rectified when we shared a delicious cake yesterday afternoon after the paper went to print as we helped staff member, Leonie, celebrate her birthday. Happy birthday Leonie! How lucky were you to be able to spend the day with us at work! LOL

• While we did have a week off last week we will be working Anzac Day and the paper will be out as normal next Wednesday.

• Local horse trainer, Wayne ‘WAP’ Prisk is having some success with a new horse, Mr Pointer, that he’s racing in partnership with Colin ‘Butch’ Eves. Mr Pointer had a win at the Bourke Picnic Races on Easter Sunday which makes two wins and a second placing for the partnership. Hopefully Mr Pointer’s good form will carry through to next month’s Cobar Races.

•Well done to Cobar High School athletes

The Junior Touch 13-16 years competition award winners were presented with their trophies at the completion of their grand final game on April 6 at Ward Oval. Axel Fairfull and Jayden Paul who have been selected in the schools Western Rugby League Team for 2023.

• Good luck to the Cobar Roosters Ladies League Tag team and Under 18s side who will play in their Castlereagh competition knockout this Saturday in Coonamble.

• The excitement is building as a new Cobar Junior Soccer season gets ready to start this Saturday with a training day.

• Junior League players will have another week’s wait before their season kicks off.

• We hear the Cobar Swimming Club failed to get enough interest at their recent annual general meeting and are planning to hold another AGM on presentation night.
