Quiet few weeks for lady golfers

The lack of players over the past two weeks forced the cancellation of some matchesintheLadies’ Golfcompetition.

During the Easter period, no games were played on Wednesday or Good Friday.

Easter Saturday’s game had seven contestants with a three-way countback needed to separate the eventual winner, Susan Goonrey, from Fay Hardwick and Barb Barklimore, after all finished with 33 points.

Nearest the Pin prizes on the 15th hole went to Fay Hardwick and Brenda Fugar, and there were no C Grade players in the mix.

Easter Sunday’s Stroke round had a better turn up with 10 ladies eager for a game.

Yet again another countback was needed for Sally Bannister to get the nod over Fay Hardwick and Geraldine Francisco when each posted 76 net. Susan Goonrey was 4th with 77 net.

The best with the short stick were Fay Hardwick and Jannine Wilkin (27 putts each) and Pat Polack with 32 putts.

The bare minimum of four players showed up for the Stableford scheduled for Easter Monday. Narelle Kriz won the day on 31 points with Geraldine Francisco the runneron 30. Both ladies picked up the closest to the flag prizes on the 3rd hole.

A Par game last Wednesday had Marlene Wynd coming out on top with -3. Julie Livingston placed second with -4 followed by Fay Hardwick (-5) and Sally Bannister on -6.

Bannister, Geraldine Francisco and Ann Dunn were all pin winners on the 7th hole.

The Cobar pennants team travelled to Wellington on Friday for their first round.

Unfortunately the sand green players were not comfortable on the grass greens and lost all five games. Karen Manns came closest to winning her match only going down on the 17th hole.

Last Saturday’s game did not go ahead as the golfing ladies, along with family and friends, helped one of their golfers, Daphne Cross to celebrate her 80th birthday with a party at the club.

On Sunday the course was closed after Saturday night’s 10mm of rain. The Trophy Day will now take place in a fortnight’s time.

A Stableford is on today and the Country Vets Championships will be on Saturday with a Stroke game to be played in conjunction with the championships.

Sunday’s format is a Foursomes (draw for partner) and a Stableford will be played on the Anzac Day public holiday. T'd Off
