Cool CATS decide to drop one leg

With a cool change in the weather (and the recent closure of the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool) the Cobar Athletics & Triathlon Squad (CATS) have turned their attention from Triathlons to Duathlons.

The club held their first Duathlon event of the year on Sunday morning with 11 competitors taking part.

The Long Course winner was Isaac Theakston who completed the three 1.2km runs interspersed with two 5km rides (ie run/ride/run/ ride/run) in just over half an hour to clock in a good time of 34 minutes and nine seconds.

He was closely followed by Axel Fairfull with a time of 35.55.

Next best were the team of Braiden Jones and Greg McKervey, who completed the course in a time of 36.26.

Khan Fugar finished in 4th place (38.00).

The pairing of Jacob Theakston and Caleb Theakston were next home (42.06) ahead of Nick Hodges (46.00) and the team of Jeremy Theakston and Jayden Cryer (46.35).

Skyla Fairfull won the Short Course (1.2km run/5km ride/1.2km run) with a time of 30 minutes and 30 seconds.

The runners-up on a count back with +7 were Jim Goonrey and Gerard Livingston who accounted for Craig ‘Duck’ Grimmond and Karen Daly.

The other +7 victory was recorded in the triples game with Bian Smith, Paul Kershaw and Allan Gardoll accounting for their opposition Doug Hudson, Craig ‘Porky’ Dillon and Greg Clark.

In Friday night’s Twilight Bowls game, Tony Polack and Mark ‘George’ Fraser claimed a +6 win over John ‘Shark’ Daly and Greg Clark.

The runners-up on +3, were Karen Daly and Andrew Roberts who beat their opposition Allan Gardoll and Kyle Loughran.
