Councillors and staff have had multiple discussions and have debated issues around attraction and retention of both CSC staff, and also other professions which are key to the ”

In order to enhance multiple aspects of the CSC business and provide the shire of Cobar with housing to attract and retain key professionals across multiple disciplines (eg: medical, child care), it is essential that we have the right framework to be able to set up, grow, and

Cr Marsden sees the establishment of a housing and investment portfolio as being a necessary first step for council to be able to stand alone without the need for unguaranteed grant funding, or to have substantial funds to go with

The primary purpose of this portfolio is to s current housing stock and grow council s housing infrastructure with a view to both bettering council’s housing stock by selling / upgrading over time, and also having new housing stock available to meet the growing demands,” he said.

Cr Marsden said this would not only benefit the council as a business, but also in other areas where the shire and its ratepayers would benefit from having housing available for staff in local medical and child care services roles.

He said having investment housing would provide the income council requires to fund the future growth of the portfolio.

“Forbes Shire Council have a successful model in place which has seen excellent growth in a short period with both upgrading of housing stock as well as attracting grant funding for the establishment of new mixed density subdivisions without the need to sacrifice other budget items or look to things like rate variations to fund such projects,” he said.

Cr Marsden has put forward his idea as a Notice of Motion to be discussed at next week’s April Ordinary Meeting.

Passenger found in possession of prohibited drugs

A search conducted by local police on a NSW TrainLink bus last week found a female passenger to be in possession of cannabis.

After receiving information that a passenger on the bus travelling from Dubbo to Cobar last Friday may have been in possession of a prohibited drug, Cobar Police attended the bus stop at about 5.45pm to speak to a 27 year old Cobar woman.

The female was searched by police and an amount of cannabis was located and seized. Cobar Police issued the woman with a Court Attendance Notice.

She is to appear at the Cobar Local Court in June for the offence of ‘Possess Prohibited Drug’.
