State election final count almost done
Cobar hosts regional forum
The NSW Electoral Commission has almost completed its NSW election count however the final outcome is not expected until mid April. To date the commission has received around 445,000 postal votes and will continue to receive more this week. (Completed postal votes must be received by tomorrow to be included in the count.) In the Barwon electorate, a total of 41,278 votes have been counted and includes votes cast on election day at Voting Centres, votes from Early Voting Centres and 2,960 postal votes. With 46.23 per cent of the already tallied votes going the way of Independent candidate, Roy Butler, the remainder of votes to be counted won’t change the outcome. Mr Butler has already claimed the win and is “back at work”. “With the Labor government looking at a very narrow majority or even minority, I can continue to be a strong voice for Barwon and all of regional NSW,” Mr Butler said.
Double demerits start tomorrow
Double Demerits come into effect tomorrow for the next five days on roads in NSW and the ACT over the Easter long weekend. The demerit point system provides an incentive for drivers to improve their driving behaviour, obey road rules and comply with NSW traffic laws. The double demerit point scheme applies for the following offences: speeding; illegal use of mobile phones; not wearing a seatbelt; and riding without a helmet. Expect an increased police presence to be out and about over the weekend.
