M&M and Fast Fobs meet in Fast5 final

Mixed & Matched (M&M) and Fast Fobs were to have met in the final of the Fast5 netball competition last night. (See our Facebook Page for results.)

Fast Fobs earned their finals spot last week after a win over KML.

KML matched Fast Fobs in the shooting circle for the first quarter with the scoreboard 4-all at the first break.

Strong shooting from George Manu and Travis Schintler in the second quarter gave Fast Fobs the upper hand and by half time they led 12-8. They pulled further ahead in the third quarter, when they had elected to use their Powerplay option (when all points scored in that quarter are doubled).

Schintler was joined by Sam Vaka in the shooting circle and together they added another 14 points to Fast Fobs’ total.

Going into the final quarter, when KML had elected to use their Powerplay option, they trailed by 13 points.

Despite some brilliant shooting by Sosie Barton, which included a four pointer, the deficit was too much to reign in and Fast Fobs went on to finish with a 10 point win, 31-21.

Yabbies’ Brace champs decided

Chris Powell and Lucas Hardy are the Cobar Yabbies Senior Men’s Swimming Club Brace Relay Champions for the 2022/2023 season.

The Brace Relay Championship was contested last Tuesday night at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool with Powell and Hardy consistently good all night to finish with the lowest time score.

The team of Fr Paul Finucane and Dave Mexted started the night off well with a big win in the first event, the 2x 50m handicapped relay. The pair then backed that up with another victory in the second event, the one legged hop.

At that stage of the night, Finucane and Mexted were looking like the men to beat with a tally of just 5.51 seconds.

Powell and Hardy, were in second place with a total of 5.65, after they had finished second in both events.

Murray Harland and Kyle Roberts were not far behind in third place with a progressive total of 8.56, and John Carswell and Jason Toomey were sitting in 4th spot with 9.75.

Matt Harland and Paul Swainston, with 13.85, were languishing back in 5th place.

The wheels fell off for Finucane/Mexted in the third event when they had a shocker in the Coin Retrieval challenge.

The pair finished almost a minute slower than their nominated time, adding 53.13 seconds to their tally and it was quickly obvious that no amount of prayers were going to help them get back into the race.

In contrast, Powell/Hardy continued their good form to win the third event ahead of Harland/Roberts.

Powell/Hardy repeated the win in Race 4, the Arm Race, with their nearest rivals, Harland/Roberts, once again in second place.

There was a late challenge for the title by Harland/Swainston, who finished second on the Slide Ride but it didn’t quite get them enough points, and they finished third overall with Harland/Roberts second.

Powell/Hardy finished with the third best Slide Ride but they had already done enough to see them through to an overall win.

The Yabbies were to have had their final competition swim last night before the pool closes this Sunday.

The 30m, 50m, 100m and Overall Club Champions will be announced at the Yabbies’ presentation night.
