Ordinary Council Meeting

5pm, Thursday April 27, 2023

• It was great to see Cobar High School featured on Prime 7 News last week with a story on the release of the Miners Memorial song music video. Several students and staff were interviewed via zoom with highlights of the video also included. What a great promotion for the school and town. Well done to all involved!

• Woohoo! Who spotted the group of Hermidale Public School students featured on Channel 7’s Sunrise on Monday morning getting a big surprise live on air? We hope you all had a ball on that huge cruise ship!

• It’s Jean Poulter’s 90th birthday today and it sounds like she’s going to be very busy welcoming family members from all around the world to help her celebrate. We hear her son David and his wife Jo are travelling from London along with Jean’s who is coming from France to help her celebrate.

• Also celebrating birthdays today are Kaye Saddler, Pam McGuinness and our editor! Happy birthday ladies.

• Congratulations to Allan and Mareeanne Gardoll who celebrated their 52 year wedding anniversary on Monday.

• Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of June McBride who recently passed away.

• Well done to Murray Harland who joined the Parkrun 100 Club after completing his 100th Parkrun at Cobar on Saturday while Kristi Martin clocked up her 50 Parkrun milestone. The Cobar club has been operating for nearly five years and has held 181 Parkrun events since its inception in May 2018.

• The Castlereagh Rugby League Board of Directors were in a quandary this week with the Trangie Rams announcing they were pulling out of the competition. The board met on Monday night to discuss changing the draw but determined it was too late as many clubs had already made plans based on the original draw. The board did however come up with a solution for awarding points as some of the teams have two byes while others will only have one. When it comes to the final ladder positions, if teams finish on equal points, winning percentages will be taken into account to determine ranking. The board acknowledged this might not be the perfect solution but hopes all clubs and supporters will realise the complexities involved with the situation and limited time frame the board has had to come up with a solution.

• The Cobar Weekly staff will be taking an extended Easter break and won’t be producing a paper next week. Our next edition will be released on April 19. We will still be reporting on a few important events (including the Fast5 and Touch grand finals being played this week) via our Facebook Page.

• From all reports Saturday’s Fight Night at the Golfie was a fantastic event. We were hoping to bring you results in this week’s edition, however the information wasn’t available by the time we went to print yesterday afternoon.

• Well done to the Fire and Rescue NSW Station 256 crew on their April Fool’s Facebook prank on Saturday. They had a few people convinced the station would be adding a helicopter to Cobar’s fleet of emergency vehicles!!!!! Hahahaha.
