On Saturday evening the Friends of St Peter’s 2-8 held their charity summer ball in the Memorial Hall at school. It was a fabulous evening with delicious food prepared by Craig Robinson and his team. The theme for the evening was ‘Great Gatsby’ and the hall was dressed beautifully by the Friends – it looked fantastic. The evening was a huge success in aid of Zarach our school charity, chosen by the children. My huge thanks to Mrs Houlston, Mrs LeeBursnall, Mrs Appleby, Mrs Parkin, Mrs Woolf and Mrs Dryden for all their hard work which culminated into a truly wonderful evening. The ball raised in the region of £4,000 for the charity which is an astonishing amount and will contribute significantly towards reducing bed poverty for those less fortunate than ourselves.
by the school choir (with more than 80 members). The children all sang beautifully and played a variety of different musical instruments. It was delightful to watch the children perform, they displayed so much confidence playing in front of their audience, all with a smile on their face. A huge thank you to all of the peripatetic music teachers who teach the children at school, particularly Mrs Leaman-Brown and Mrs Hayley who assisted the children at the concert. Also, a huge thanks to Mrs Hayden for organising three wonderful music concerts, and a very big thank you to all of our talented children who performed and to our audiences who celebrated all of the children in the concerts. Bravo!
available for the first week back after half term. I am just liaising with Tempest regarding this so apologies for the delay in sharing this photo with you all.
As you will have heard Mr Walker was able to share some exciting news on international schools with the St Peter’s community this week. Our first international school, Yingya St Peter’s School is due to open this September on the Chinese island of Hainan.

Today we had a charity colour run in aid of Zarach. The children had a wonderful time throwing coloured powder at each other, decorating their white tshirts. Huge thanks to Miss Flockhart for arranging this activity and to Mrs McCurrie who ensured all the powder paint and t-shirts arrived in plenty of time. What a lovely way to end this half of the summer term. This week we have been interviewing prospective candidates for our Reception and Year 2 teaching vacancies. All of the candidates were excellent, and we hope to be in a position to announce the new teachers the first week back after the half term break.

We hope to have details of how you can order the Whole School Photo
This is a fantastic project for St Peter’s allowing us to increase much needed revenue away from school fees. Sadly, I was unable to join members of the leadership team who accompanied Mr Bill Wooley, Chair of Governors on their recent trip to Hainan to sign the co-operation agreement. I’m sure this will be the beginning of a wonderful relationship with Yinga St Peter’s. This half term has been incredibly busy and the children have had fabulous learning adventures. My huge thanks to all of the teachers, teaching assistants, support staff and all staff who work at school creating an inspirational place for the children. I hope you all have a brilliant half term and I look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 5th June to start the final half term of the school year.

SCHOOL COUNCIL
This Monday we were very lucky to have a visit from Mrs Bromley, the mummy of Hugo in year 2, who works for the RSPCA in York.
She talked to Council about the role of the RSPCA, in particular how they can help wild animals as well as domestic ones. It was very interesting and all the Councillors learnt something new about caring for wild animals and becoming a "wildlife friend," that they can share with their classes. We completed a quiz on the school and what things we had to help wildlife eg flowers and hedges, and areas where we could improve.

We also watched a video about wild animals that had needed help from the RSPCA. There was a fox cub with its head stuck in fencing and a hedgehog that was stuck in the nets of a football goal, we were told this was a common problem.
An unbelievable coincidence then happened on Wednesday morning, there was a hedgehog STUCK in the playground netting. Thankfully the children remembered what to do, we kept calm so we didn't frighten the hedgehog and called our grounds team to help. The hedgehog was successfully rescued and released back into the wild.

As we approach the end of another exciting term at our nursery, we wanted to take a moment to share the wonderful skills our little ones have been developing in their PE.

Acorns:
Our little Acorns have been busy exploring their motor skills through various engaging activities. One particular skill they have been working on is throwing. They have been enthusiastically tossing different coloured bean bags into nets and hoops, in our recycling game. This develops their hand-eye coordination and aiming skills. They have also been introduced to different ways of traveling, such as skipping, hopping and jumping. It's been delightful to witness their progress and growing confidence!
Conkers:
Our Conkers have been actively focusing on developing their skills with increased complexity. Rolling and target practice have been a key area of concentration, using hula hoops and skittles to enhance their aim and precision. They have shown great determination and perseverance as they strive to improve their accuracy. Additionally, they have begun exploring the technique of underarm throwing, both to their peers and into the nets. It's wonderful to see their abilities expand and their teamwork skills flourish.
As we look forward to the upcoming half term break, we encourage you to take this time to relax, rejuvenate, and enjoy. This is a great opportunity to make the most of the outdoors and practice some of the skills we have mastered in school.

Wow what a fabulously musical week we have had!
It has been so lovely to hear the children perform in front of friends and family this week. We started with our Year 1 children who sang so confidently, wowing everyone with their Alphabet in reverse and B A Star which was accompanied by our amazing recorder players. It was the first time our recorder children had performed in front of an audience, there were a few nerves but plenty of smiles at the end of each piece! We also enjoyed Oscar and George's piano pieces, it was lovely to hear what they have been learning at home.
Tuesday saw the first of two performances by our amazing choir. The children confidently sang in two parts, led by some of our Year 3 children. They have worked so well this half term on our tricky two-part pieces, our Year 3 children have really enjoyed using their leadership skills helping us to keep in time with the different harmony parts. Year 2 soloists followed, lovely confident playing, lots of smiles, amazing performances considering most of the children have been learning for less than a year!
Music
Year 3 patiently waited until Wednesday for their opportunity to shine. I was blown away by how all the children performed, there were lots of tricky notes, pedalling on the piano and difficult sharps and flats to overcome but they all did brilliantly! The concert was rounded off by our lovely Year 3 Ukulele group who invited everyone to join in to sing "You are my Sunshine" and "The lion sleeps tonight". What a great way to celebrate all of our talented musicians.
A huge thank you to our amazing team of visiting music teachers, they put in so much work with the children and the concerts would not have been possible without their hard work.
Many thanks to our audiences over the three days, the children were so excited to perform to you and really appreciated you being here.
Finally thank you to everyone for all the support you give your children at home learning their instruments. It's always tricky to start an instrument and it really does make all the difference when the children are able to play at home in between their music lessons. Mrs Hayden

Acorns
The beginning of this week was World Bee Day, we had such fun chatting to the children about the importance of bees to our wonderful world.
During Forest School we gave the children a honey sandwich to taste just how sweet and delicious honey is. Those children who wanted to create a bee picture were able to do so with our lovely art teacher Mrs Marshall. The results were amazzzzzzzing!

The sunshine has meant that we have played outside, making dens, reading stories, making tracks in the sandpit, and splashing about. We had a brief science lesson on the properties of water. The children poured the liquid squash into some ice lolly moulds; the result was frozen lollies to enjoy in the sunshine.
It has been another fun filled week. We hope you all enjoy the half term break.

Conkers
It's been celebrations galore in Conkers this week!

We arrived in on Monday morning to discover that all our chrysalises had hatched into a flutter of beautiful butterflies! Just like proud parents we watched as Miss Kelsh set them free!

Next, we received a birthday card for 'Bella bear' from her mummy, in Italy. Not only did we need to organise a party, but it also needed to be Italian themed as it turned out both 'Bella bear' and 'Billy bear' would be jetting off to Bella's hometown of Venice in Italy! We got to work researching all things Italian. We soon found out that the Italian flag is made up of the colours red, white and green, Italy is shaped like a boot kicking a ball, the Venetian carnival celebrates Springtime, and most importantly pizza is a famous Italian food!
On Tuesday we set off to buy all pizza ingredients from the shop to get cooking. We made our very own Venetian masks, elaborately decorated with water colours, feathers and sparkles.

The big day arrived and, with our special guest Elisabetta confirmed to attend, on Wednesday afternoon we wore our masks and waved our flags down onto the field for pizza, ice cream and our Italian lesson.

There was no rest for us on Thursday, as first thing in the morning we spotted an ex-tadpole, now tiny froglet perched on a rock, out of the water. Time for them to be released back into the pond, otherwise they'll all be hopping round nursery by the time we're back after half term!
Rounding up the week nicely - Friday colour run fun-day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reception

What a busy lead up to half term we have had!

RJ have visited the supermarket this week to deliver the fruit posters we made and buy some fruit to make a milkshake with. This was inspired by the class stories we have been reading: Oliver’s Vegetables, Oliver’s Fruit and Oliver’s Milkshake. We also learned how to peel vegetables in preparation for making some chips - Yum!

RP meanwhile have been learning about lifecycles and this coincided with the emergence of some of our butterflies from their chrysalises. This caused much excitement all round and the children have been watching with bated breath each day to see what happens. Lots of beautiful butterfly inspired art and learning about symmetry has followed on from this.
RC meanwhile have been drawing flowers and learning about growing. Each class has planted some cress seeds and we hope to observe what happens next. Lots more growing to come next term.

Finally, we say goodbye to George until September, we will miss you George, but this is just au revoir.
Have a lovely half term, see you for our final half term in a week! We have lots more to pack in!

Reception

Year 1 have had a glorious week in the sunshine! On Monday afternoon we enjoyed a wonderful musical concert, and we are so incredibly proud of all the children. It is a huge achievement to stand up on stage in front of an audience and play an instrumentwell done to everyone!
On Tuesday, we enjoyed a sunny afternoon down at forest school, where we helped to light a fire and toasted gooey marshmallows to make delicious s'mores! This week we have been putting our superstar writing skills into practice and we worked independently to

write about animals in Africa. The children have all blown us away!
Finally, as we write this week's newsletter, we are super excited for the Colour Run on Friday morning to raise money for Zarach. It is a highlight of the year, and we can't wait.

We hope you all have the most fantastic half term break and enjoy cycling/scootering/ walking/running as many miles as you can for our sponsored bike ride. The children have been so inspired by Emmanuel's story and are excited and passionate to travel 400 miles, just like he did!
Good luck :)

We can’t quite believe that we will be returning after the holidays to start our final 5 weeks of Year 2! This half term has flown by, but what fun it has been. We had a wonderful start to the week watching the choir and soloists in the Year 2 Music Concert. A big thank you to Mrs Hayden for planning this lovely event. It was a lovely opportunity for the teachers and parents to see the children’s talents, and for the children to showcase their hard work. We were so impressed! We also had a fantastic finish to the half term with our Charity Colour Run! The children (and teachers!) had so much fun taking part and spectating the event and we want to say a huge thank you to Miss Flockhart for organising this. We can’t wait to see how much money we have raised as a school.
After spending two weeks on our latest destination on our travels, India, we have enjoyed trying more delicious delicacies making mango lassis and flatbreads down at the Forest. The children then wrote these recipes in their recipe books, so that you can try them at home! We focused on all of the features used when writing instructions such as numbers, time
connectives, adverbs and the children even threw in some adjectives for extra measure.
We were all blown away by the children’s incredible art work this week. Having learnt about Indian animals this week, we looked at the work of wildlife artist David Shepherd. Year 2 were given half of an Indian animal of their choice and given the difficult challenge of drawing the other half. We focused on starting inwards first and working outwards, looking at symmetry and drawing exactly what we can see, not what we think the animal should look like. Their creations were stunning!

We have thoroughly enjoyed the whistle stop tours of the Travelling School so far and we can’t wait to see where we end up on next half term’s travels. Have a wonderful half term break Year 2, ready for the final chapter!

What a busy first half of the summer term it has been in Year 3! We can’t believe how quickly time has whizzed by, nor how much we have learnt.

From our overnight residential trip, to just this week performing in the music concert and participating in the colour run in aid of our school charity, Zarach.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our learning so far about Ancient Egypt, spending this week focussing on the infamous boy King, Tutankhamun. We used a range of sources to find out more about this famous pharaoh and created talking pictures using Chatterpix to present our findings. We were amazed to find that over 5,000 artefacts were recovered from his tomb, including over 400 clay figurines called Shabti’s.
We discovered that pharaohs were keen to be buried with shabti because they would bring them to life and make them do the chores in the afterlife!
In other areas of learning, we have had fun getting hands-on with Maths, using different vessels to measure capacities, read scales and carry out conversions.
When we return after half-term, we will proceed with our core text and look forward to introducing the children to the famous Ancient Egyptian Gods.
We would like to wish you all a restful and relaxing break and look forward to welcoming the children back for our final half term!
