This Monday we were very lucky to have a visit from Mrs Bromley, the mummy of Hugo in year 2, who works for the RSPCA in York.

She talked to Council about the role of the RSPCA, in particular how they can help wild animals as well as domestic ones. It was very interesting and all the Councillors learnt something new about caring for wild animals and becoming a "wildlife friend," that they can share with their classes. We completed a quiz on the school and what things we had to help wildlife eg flowers and hedges, and areas where we could improve.

We also watched a video about wild animals that had needed help from the RSPCA. There was a fox cub with its head stuck in fencing and a hedgehog that was stuck in the nets of a football goal, we were told this was a common problem.

An unbelievable coincidence then happened on Wednesday morning, there was a hedgehog STUCK in the playground netting. Thankfully the children remembered what to do, we kept calm so we didn't frighten the hedgehog and called our grounds team to help. The hedgehog was successfully rescued and released back into the wild.

As we approach the end of another exciting term at our nursery, we wanted to take a moment to share the wonderful skills our little ones have been developing in their PE.

Acorns:

Our little Acorns have been busy exploring their motor skills through various engaging activities. One particular skill they have been working on is throwing. They have been enthusiastically tossing different coloured bean bags into nets and hoops, in our recycling game. This develops their hand-eye coordination and aiming skills. They have also been introduced to different ways of traveling, such as skipping, hopping and jumping. It's been delightful to witness their progress and growing confidence!

Conkers:

Our Conkers have been actively focusing on developing their skills with increased complexity. Rolling and target practice have been a key area of concentration, using hula hoops and skittles to enhance their aim and precision. They have shown great determination and perseverance as they strive to improve their accuracy. Additionally, they have begun exploring the technique of underarm throwing, both to their peers and into the nets. It's wonderful to see their abilities expand and their teamwork skills flourish.

As we look forward to the upcoming half term break, we encourage you to take this time to relax, rejuvenate, and enjoy. This is a great opportunity to make the most of the outdoors and practice some of the skills we have mastered in school.
