A Dinner to Remember
Valentine’s Date Night Dinner Recap Steve Littlefield, Club President
Food and love go hand and hand. Add music to that and you have the makings of a failproof night. This was the case February 10 when SSCC hosted a Valentine’s dinner for the membership. If you were looking for an event to make you the rock star of your relationship or the perfect husband, all you needed to do was attend the SSCC’s dinner. As soon as you walked in the door, your better half knew you had chosen well. The lights were dim, and the floor was lined with red and pink rose petals leading you directly to the dining room. The tables were set with linens and a floral chandelier gave the room a decadent and stylish glow. The table’s centerpiece was a tall crystal vase that housed beautiful long-stemmed roses and soothing live piano music was being performed in the background. Chef Al’s elegant Valentine’s menu consisted of a four course meal with several selections for each course. For the main course, you had a choice between Almond Crusted Pork Tenderloin, Herb Parmesan-Crusted Flounder with a Citrus Beurre Blanc or Chicken Pot Pie Roulade. The finale of the dinner was Bananas Fosters that were flambéed at the table and served with vanilla ice cream. Outstanding.
As for Monica and me: We started off with a bottle of cabernet sauvignon, that was opened for us at the table. That sounds so simple, but it is hard to find a restaurant in Sulphur Springs that adds this touch anymore. First Course: Monica had the Brandy Mushroom Bisque and I had the Panzanella Crisped in Duck Fat. Accidently, we discovered the panzanella bread dipped in the brandy mushroom bisque was delicious and an extra delight.
Fourth Course: We ordered one of each, Bananas Foster with Ice Cream and Glace aux Noisette. I wasn’t sure what Glace aux Noisette was, but it was delicious. It was a form of hazelnut ice cream in strawberry orange sauce. As stated above the Bananas Foster was flambeed at the table and served hot from the fire with vanilla ice cream. This could have been our favorite, but by this time we were getting full.
Second Course: Monica had Shrimp Ceviche and I had the Oxtail Gnocchi Tomato Broth. The Oxtail Gnocchi Tomato Broth was my favorite part of the meal. Third Course: Monica had the Herb Parmesan-Crusted Flounder with Citrus Beurre Blanc and I had the Chicken Pot Pie Roulade. The Chicken Pot Pie was a deconstructed presentation with a large puff pastry on top of the chicken roulade. It was an excellent dish. The Herb ParmesanCrusted Flounder was Monica’s favorite part of the meal.
Afterwards, we stayed and listened to KB Brown play the piano and sing numerous Adele songs along with various artists. The evening was completed by me giving Monica the rose from the table and we headed home. I couldn’t have planned or asked for a better evening. We had great food, it was a romantic evening accompanied by live music and ended with a rose, and it was right here in Sulphur Springs. Food and love go hand and hand.
When the dinner was finished you had the option of staying and continuing to listen to beautiful music or continuing to the next romantic destination but not before server presented a long-stemmed rose from the table’s centerpiece to your date.
