REMOTE WORKING HOW HAS IT BEEN? We hear from tenant Axis Studios on their planning and how they are keeping spirits up, and employee Linda Killen who shares her lunch break view from home.
Axis was about three weeks ahead of the Scottish government in terms of planning for COVID. We had remote working done and dusted before the lockdown was announced. The health and wellbeing of our staff and their families is of the utmost importance to us, so we took action to put in place a business continuity plan that would both protect our staff and keep the studio working. Our plan consisted of having our artists working from home with the equipment they needed to work and contribute as if they were in the office working. With disruption to every aspect of life, it was important for Axis to operate as much of a “business as usual” approach to minimise disruption but also for the benefit of our teams. COVID-19 hasn’t impacted the animation sector as it has some other industries, and we are just as busy. In 2020 we completed 22 working from home including Playstation’s 12
“Sackboy: A Big Adventure” and “The Tall Grass” from Netflix’s Love, Death and Robot’s. We knew that many of our solutions will need to be people solutions as much as technology solutions. Our teams continue to monitor advice from the UK Government, Scottish Government, public health organisation and the WHO. Any updates are then shared on our internal communications platform, giving our artists all the information they need. Covid-19 may have stopped meeting face-to-face for now, but we have made an enormous effort to continue the fun and culture by meeting up, and hosting some fabulous parties, but this time virtually. Our virtual parties and regular team catch-ups are helping everyone in the business still feel connected and part of the Axis Studios family.
