WHAT’S ON YOUR WORLD’S TO DO LIST IN SUPPORT OF UN GLOBAL GOALS? 4

The World’s To Do List is here and features 17 sticky notes (2 meters high) running 54 meters, alongside the Clydeside Expressway, serving as a call to action to the world in the run up to and during Glasgow hosting COP26 from 1-12 November 2021.

We are proud that Skypark has been involved from the inception of this world-wide campaign with the first physical activation to go live in Scotland. A call to action to the world, it is visible to everyone in an everyday space to get involved and share what’s on their ‘To Do List’ for COP26, the UN Climate Conference in Glasgow in November. We are supporting Global Goal number 13 ‘Tackling Climate Change’ and your organisation can show its support for the global goals @#worldstodolist. The campaign brings to life why the Goals are the World’s To Do List for people and planet using sticky notes – a set of playful yet profound messages which reimagine the Goals as a series of short actionable ‘to do’s’, setting a clear reminder that we have the plan to fix the world’s problems, we just need the action to get it done. Giant sticky notes are appearing in various physical locations as reminders of the immediate actions needed to be taken, as well as a large scale art project throughout India with the Rouble Nagi Art Foundation, painting murals across villages in five states while working with local communities to educate and support on the issues raised by the Goals.

Skypark shows support for Global Goal Number 13 ‘Tackling Climate Change’ #worldstodolist As part of the annual Global Goals week, Project Everyone and partners launched The World’s To Do List Campaign 20-26 September, with the first Scottish physical activation of the UNs Global Goals on a series of huge sticky notes right here at Skypark! The campaign aims to raise awareness of and action for the 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development, a plan adopted by all UN member states in 2015 to end poverty, conquer inequality and tackle the climate crisis by 2030.

The campaign will then grow, setting its sights on critical moments for the advancement of the Global Goals, beginning with COP26, the UN climate conference taking place in Glasgow in November. More physical activations will take place across multiple locations highlighting the climate focused Goals across issues from clean energy to ocean protection and restoration, as well as the two-way relationship between the climate crisis and issues such as poverty, hunger and gender inequality. The artwork along the Clydeside Expressway, overlooking the COP26 summit venue is printed on a PVC free material called Kavalan, designed for responsible end of life disposal. It features a biodegrable coating and adheres to strict ecological standards in its production.

une in for Skypark Sessions streaming FREE to fans on 21 and 28 October, 4 and 11 November, giving bands and singers promotional collateral, helping to boost the recovery of live music after the pandemic! Scottish Stars Blue Rose Code, The Wild Places, Rebekah Kirk and Mt. Doubt came together on 30th September to record all new material in live sets for the first time in 15 months. A long-standing supporter of Scottish arts programmes - including Glasgow International, Arts and Business and Skypark Curatorial Fellowship 2019 in partnership with the GSA - Skypark Sessions is the second of two music sessions to launch in partnership with Mildred’s Dairy Promotions.

Blue Rose Code ▼ is Edinburgh-born songwriter Ross Wilson. At the edge of contemporary alt-folk, Wilson's music evokes a meeting of Van Morrison and a young John Martyn, both shipwrecked with a bunch of Motown records. Ross Wilson said: "It's an electrifying gift to be able to be able to sing, play and share these moments again."

Formed in 2014, Glasgow band The Wild Places ▼ will play new songs from their debut album ‘Wires’ released in February 2020. The trio are multi-instrumentalist Ewan Fergus, Neil Plews on bass and Tim Berridge on drums. The album was recorded entirely in their homes. Speaking about the past year singersongwriter Ewan Fergus said: “Thanks to our very patient families, we basically did everything ourselves. Even Tim’s massive drum sound was recorded in my living room with a full drum kit, which my very kind family and cat were good enough to put up with. Chaos… but it worked. It was gutting to do all that work and not be able to play the songs live to anyone. But now things are opening up we hope to change that soon. We are also thrilled to be doing a Skypark Session and get back to what we do best: playing live.”

Up and coming singer and songwriter, Rebekah Kirk ▲ from Cambuslang, Glasgow is Songwriter of the Year 2021 at the University of West of Scotland. She wrote her first song age 10 when she began gigging. In 2018, Rebekah worked with Stormzy and Florence + The Machine’s backing vocalists in a London studio, recording her first few singles and in 2019, she worked with BAFTA Award winning director Tim Courtney on the stunning music video to her debut single Haunted.

Bobby Motherwell, founder of Mildred’s Dairy Promotions that has partnered with Skypark in the creation of the event said: “We jumped at the chance to be involved in this great initiative to help Scottish artists get their new music heard during what has been a very testing year for musicians and the live music scene in Scotland. We think this is a great way to bring musicians, artists and music fans together.”

Rebekah said: “It’s great to get this opportunity as due to the pandemic I have been unable to play live. Thanks to the Skypark Sessions more people will hopefully get the chance to get to know me and my songs. I am excited to be a part of the Sessions as it will be great to showcase some acoustic versions of some songs I hope to release as singles in the near future.”

Founded in 2015, Edinburgh’s Mt. Doubt ▶ has released three albums and three EPs, performing alongside the likes of Idlewild, White Lie and Admiral Fallow. Leo Bargery of Mt. Doubt said: “The tracks we’ll be playing are from our most recent album ‘Doubtlands’, which came out in October 2020. We’re going to play ‘Caravans on a Hill’, ‘Dark Slopes Away’ and ‘Waiting Rooms’. Being involved in the Skypark Sessions is going to benefit us as a band in an array of ways not least just being able to be back together. Our record also came out during lockdown, so no-one has seen us perform these songs. That will be exciting and a good test for us ahead of upcoming shows towards the end of the year. Hopefully, new people will see the Sessions, like the songs and grab a record too!”

The consultancy provides a series of wrapped up solutions that are compliant with Zero Waste Scotland and divert all materials from landfill.

FILAMENT ANNOUNCES SCOTLAND’S FIRST SMART THINGS ACCELERATOR CENTRE the accelerator programme will have access to world-class IoT R&D facilities within the Filament PD offices in Skypark.

Earlier this year, Scotland’s first Smart Things Accelerator Centre launched, with the Filament STAC accelerator aiming to jumpstart the nation’s Internet of Things (IoT) sector headed by global leaders from tech powerhouses including Dyson, Wistron, BlackBerry and Plexus Corp. The 18-month programme will support 10 companies in each cohort, and is supported by a world-class tech partnership ecosystem in Scotland with all key products and services required for IoT companies to succeed. Filament STAC, which commences at Skypark in Glasgow in October, is underpinned by an industry-government partnership which will see Scottish Enterprise support the first phase of growth alongside Filament, Plexus Corp, a global leader in complex design, manufacturing, supply chain and aftermarket services, and CENSIS. Applications and pitches took place September with the first cohort starting in October. Cohort companies on

The 3-year Scottish targets are for the creation of more than 25 IoT companies supporting around 750 jobs, reporting revenue in the region of £750 million, with cohort companies raising investment in excess of £100 million. Filament STAC is partly modelled on a Canadian programme in Ontario, Canada the Accelerator Centre in Waterloo - that has supported around 650 start-ups that have created over 4,000 jobs, and the centre’s founder Tim Ellis has been lined up as a consultant to the Scottish project. Filament STAC will also build on the IoT foundations already put in place by CENSIS, Scotland’s Innovation Centre for sensing, imaging and IoT technologies, and Glasgow-headquartered product design firm Filament. Filament STAC CEO Paul Wilson said: “We believe Scotland has the potential to be a main player in smart, connected devices and moving ahead with the accelerator gives us a

real chance to gain a leading position in an IoT sector forecast to reach $1.5 trillion over the next few years. Beringar and R3-IoT are bright stars in Scotland with huge potential, but we need more and STAC will make the scale-up journey quicker and easier.” “We have great talent here in Scotland which we export incredibly well to leading global tech companies. We evidently do less well in producing international Scottish tech companies of scale. Filament STAC will address this by developing highly ambitious Scottish IoT companies that will be ready to go out and compete on the global stage.”

AXIS BREAKS CONVENTION IN CREATING THE TALL GRASS, FOR NETFLIX’S LOVE, DEATH, AND ROBOTS Based right here, Axis Studios is an award-winning entertainment company, founded in Glasgow in 2000. It boasts an international team of directors, designers, artists, animators, writers and producers, working across its studios. As well as being the largest animation studio in Scotland, it also has one of the largest CGI teams in the UK. Announced this month, Axis broke convention to create a film in which every frame is a painting for Netflix’s Emmy award-winning adult animation anthology series, Love, Death, and Robots Vol 2. Created by Tim Miller and David Fincher, Netflix’s Love, Death, and Robots (LDR) Vol 2 is the second series of animated shorts, showcasing the work of multiple animation studios. With each story independent to the next, every episode portrays a unique narrative, differing aesthetic themes, and a broad range of creative styles. Returning for the second series Axis Studios were presented with the opportunity to create the episode - The Tall Grass, under the vision of director & VES Award-winning How To Train Your Dragon franchise alum, Simon Otto.

Adapted from Joe R. Lansdale’ tense Lovecraftian horror story of the same name, The Tall Grass uses visually stunning CG to create a living, breathing illustration. Axis Studios set out with a mission to make every frame a painting to push the capabilities of their creative team, and create something audiences have never seen before. Simon Otto, Director comments: “We really wanted our short to feel like a visual development painting and we had to work out how to do that in animation. The proof of concept, the first CG version of a shot blew everyone away. The team raised the bar and it set the tone for the rest of the film.” The team at Axis relished the opportunity to utilise their skills to push the boundaries of animated storytelling outside its comfort zone. Animation rarely delves into the horror space, and Love, Death & Robots was a chance to show the extraordinary versatility of the medium. Axis created a unique look that complemented the story and emphasized its themes, and is engaged with many other equally exciting projects in the same space. Love, Death, and Robots (LDR) Vol 2 and The Tall Grass are streaming on Netflix now.

APPEAL FOR HELPING HANDS

Our community is a long standing supporter of charities and good causes that make a difference to families and people living locally. Glasgow’s No1 Baby and Family Support Service, has launched a new Support & Care Hub for families in crisis and living in working poverty and is asking for volunteers to help get lives back on track. Glasgow’s No1 Baby and Family Support Service was founded in 2017, by Audrey Dempsey, operating from a dedicated unit in Forge Street, Glasgow where it also supports families in working poverty with anything from furnishing a home to supplying clothing. The Charity offers an events room where service users can choose an outfit for a job interview, a school prom or a family gathering. Commenting on the Support & Care Hub, Audrey Dempsey said: “Our Hub has been created because it became evident to us very early on that the families, we were supporting in poverty were also suffering from some kind of anxiety issues, addiction, trauma or a basic lack of knowledge in money management. This makes sense as no one can suffer poverty and feel good about it, but it also became evident that it was becoming more difficult to source support for these issues in Glasgow. “Our Hub is a much needed resource that we hope will empower people that are living in crisis and working poverty to help get lives back on track. It will be a one stop for anyone needing information and support from education and counselling to preparing for a job interview. ‘A FESTIVAL OF HAPPINESS’ The Pyramid our local community hub for children and families has just celebrated its Festival Weekend welcoming over 600 people and would love to hear from volunteers to donate a few hours of their time over the coming months. Kate Drummond, community builder from the Pyramid at Anderston said: “We held a FANTASTIC Festival Weekend over Sat 25 & Sun 26 Sept, 2021 - welcoming over 650 people for bags of fun and good times; with loads of free and fun activities for all ages including - Aardman lead modelmaker Jim Parkyn's Amazing Scene Machine, children’s author Kjartan Poskitt (Murderous Maths, The Runaway Pea), top Scottish magician Billy Reid Magic, Glasgow Zine Library, Glasgow Science Centre, Halo Arts with circus skills and a silent disco, arts & crafts, face painting with Face Candy Glasgow and friends, balloon modelling, fairground rides and more... “One boy commented that the event should have been called the 'Festival of Happiness'. On Thursday, 7th October, TEDxGlasgow’s annual conference returned with a fantastic line-up of speakers who shared their thoughts on creating positive change to an intimate audience at The Engine Works in Glasgow. Partnering with Skypark’s owner Federated Hermes, this year’s theme, Make or Break, recognised United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres statement that 2021 is a ‘make or break’ year to confront the global climate emergency. Throughout the afternoon, six speakers gave a profoundly personalised TEDx talk on the solutions

that can help save our planet and how, together, we can create a legacy beyond COP26. The audience heard from John Elkington - described as the ‘true green business guru’ - as he talked about how the power of the boards can influence change. Greg Jackson’s talk tackled the need for a just transition within the energy sector. Step forward Be Someone Santa, an initiative set up by psychotherapist Jen Bannerman who became aware just how hard it was for support agencies to help out at Christmas time. Five years ago Jen was allocated 35 families to support. Through family, friends and Facebook she was able to provide gifts for them all. Last year Be Someone’s Santa gave out 1600 presents. The need for a present donation service has grown exponentially, and this year she is expecting to help over 2000 families.

Furthermore, any fundraising from businesses is also welcomed. Monies raised go towards making up gift bags for children/ young people who come on the radar at the last minute (when it's too late to find a person to allocate to), and to help provide for teenage recipients who are usually the most difficult to fulfil (people tend to want to buy for younger children). Funds are often used to buy young people experiential gift cards as this allows the opportunity to be social with friends where money would usually not permit this.

GLASGOW ARTIST ROTHNIE UNLEASHES ‘FREE SPIRIT’ EXHIBITION We welcome back our vibrant donated gallery with the opening of ‘Free Spirit’ a therapeutic art exhibition of bright and colourful paintings by Artist Rothnie. The exhibition is the artist’s biggest exhibition of work in over 25 years and captures the moment highlighting climate change.

With the installation adorning our donated gallery walls, ‘Free Spirit’ enabled Artist Rothnie to channel her energy to feel free during the pandemic. She said: “Exhibiting at Skypark is my first real opportunity to show my work to a wider audience. After 25 years raising my family, I'm exploding onto the Glasgow art scene and Skypark has the largest selection of works in one place.

“My painting, ‘Regal Bear’ is a portrait of a polar bear that I feel is symbolic of the battle we are fighting with climate change and pollution and relevant in the lead up to COP26 in Glasgow. While climate change remains the greatest threat to the polar bear’s survival, the oil and gas industry is currently turning its eyes to the arctic and with that comes the potential risks of further habitat destruction from the oil exploration work. The black human handprint symbolises mans’ presence and the open palm gesture to stop and consider our actions”.
