SKYPARK SESSIONS If music is the lifeblood of Scottish culture then Glasgow is its beating heart. The city was recognised as a UNESCO City of Music 13 years ago – at the time only the third country in the world to receive this honour. Pre pandemic typically Glasgow would showcase around 130 live performances a week, from small intimate sets to massive stadium events but this abruptly stopped as coronavirus took hold and Scotland’s live music scene was paused. You can still enjoy the benefits of active travel with Sustrans’ #ActiveCommuteClub a social movement to reimagine your commute that suits your working day. Spring is a great time to get outdoors so why not reimagine your commute by being more ac-tive before or after work. Taking time out is good for us to connect with the outdoors and re-establish the boundaries between our work and personal life. Think how you could make the most of the time when you used to be stuck in rush hour. Now it’s an opportunity to enjoy physical
activity instead. That could be a quick walk, wheel, cycle or jog before or after work. No activity is too small, or too local. A leading light in the European space industry, Spire Global UK has signed a landmark 29,511 sq. ft. pre-let deal to build a multi-functioning premises for nanosatellite manufacturing here at Skypark.

New funding will enable Spire to establish a stronghold in the UK and continue to design, build, test, and integrate satellites entirely within one building in Skypark. Our aim is to offer the most effective weather forecast in the world and to make Scotland a leading region in the European space sector.”
Spire Global UK has rapidly expanded its presence here in just 4 years. The pre-let deal will see it move from 11,200 sq. ft. to a new purpose-built office and manufacturing facility totalling 30,000 sq. ft. on a 10-year lease. A space-powered Earth data company, Spire Global collects data from space to monitor aviation, maritime and weather patterns across the world. The new space will comprise offices and an upsized nanosatellite manufacturing and test facility. The additional space will enable Spire to significantly grow its workforce in all areas of the business, creating high value

Fleet Alliance has seen a huge surge in orders of electric vehicles (EVs) as companies and drivers alike look to take advantage of attractive tax rates available while enhancing their green credentials. In the last 12 months, Fleet Alliance, which now manages more than 30,000 vehicles, has seen a 214% increase in EV orders – and a rise of over 5,000% since the start of 2018.

AAC CLYDE SPACE SHARE EXCITING NEW DEVELOPMENTS In challenging times it’s great to announce positive news! Niki Lonsdale shares the latest new developments from our resident AAC Clyde Space team that is reaching for the stars. Since we last caught up with Skyline, we have acquired yet another new space company, announced our very first constellation and were selected to design the first satellite for in-space production – what a few months it has been! >> Acquisition of SpaceQuest Following on from our Hyperion Technologies acquisition we did not stop there, the acquisition of the US based company SpaceQuest was announced in October and then finalised in December. The acquisition will extend our product offering, improve access to the US market and SpaceQuest AIS data delivery infrastructure, as well as expand our space in service capabilities. We are thrilled to have so many new members on board of our ever-expanding team and we can’t wait to see what the year has in store for our powerhouse new space company. >> New Constellation Service Launch We were delighted to announce AAC Clyde Space’s very first innovation constellation service, is named xSPANCION. We will be embarking on a 3-year project in collaboration with the European Space Agency and the UK Space Agency including the manufacturing of 10 spacecraft here in Skypark. Each of the small satellites will be built as part of a new three-year project to create an innovative satellite constellation that businesses can use for a wide range of applications and services including satellite communications, Earth observation, and remote sensing. The benefit to the customer in developing this constellation is that their space-data needs will be met with a one-stop-shop, data will be provided from a single point of contact, cutting out the need to carry out any space
activity themselves whilst simultaneously enabling them to capitalise on the low-cost high-volume nature of the service. xSPANCION will revolutionise the mechanism by which we deliver products and services to our customers. This will enable more effective access to space for Proof of Concept (PoC) missions, efficient commercial delivery of satellite constellations, as well as the generation of a new ‘Space-as-aService’ offering. The capability established as part of xSPANCION will also enable AAC Clyde Space to respond to the growing demand to deliver low-cost constellation services at scale in reasonable timeframes and offer compelling constellation delivery to the market. This is a massive milestone for AAC Clyde Space, and we cannot wait to see what exciting challenges the project will bring our team however as always, we know they will smash it out the park (or more specifically the Skypark). >> First Design for Earth Returning Satellite In December we finished off 2020 with the exciting announcement that we have been selected by Space Forge to design the first satellite for in-space production that shall return to Earth. The programme is funded by the UK Space Agency under their NSIP initiative. We will be developing the satellite based on our current standard platform and then then adjusting it for reentry into the atmosphere and landing on Earth. We are very proud to be part of such a cutting-edge project as we will be helping space-based production to become a reality alongside Space Forge. We kicked off the conference year with our team attending the SmallSat Symposium virtual conference. Despite not being able to travel, we were excited for the chance to chat to customers from around the world and stay connected during this time. AXIS SHOWCASE NEW WORKS Our resident Axis boasts an international team of directors, designers, artists, animators, writers and producers, working across its studios. Spanning three UK studios, Axis is the largest animation studio in Scotland at Skypark, it also has one of the largest CGI teams in the UK.
Axis’ Bristol and Glasgow sites and departments, leveraging twenty years of world-building experience to create a historically accurate and detailed world. ADoW season two airs on Sky One and NOW TV (UK). Visual Spectacle for the latest Music Video from K/DA Axis Studios teamed up with Riot Games to create the explosive music video for virtual girl group sensation K/ DA's latest single, "MORE". The long-awaited release took YouTube by storm, with over 200K viewers tuning in for the live premiere on the official League of Legends' channel and 9M views in just over 24 hours.
The newest releases from this multi-award-winning studio include SkyOne’s A Discovery of Witches, K/DA’s latest music video “MORE” and Sony’s new Playstation 5 launch title game Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Read on to find out more…

Axis recreated an entire CG Elizabethan London for the second season of Sky One's original drama, A Discovery of Witches based on the All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness. The team delivered 100 shots for 10 episodes over a span of 18 months, which included working throughout the challenges of the COVID pandemic.
Sackboy: A Big Adventure is Sackboy’s first stand-alone game and one of 19 launch titles for Sony's long-awaited next-generation Playstation 5 console.
The Elizabethan London landscape is witnessed from above in several of ADoW’s full-CG aerial establishing shots, and from within for numerous scenes set inside the city. The multidisciplinary team worked on the reconstruction across

Axis collaborated with the Playstation 5 team as the cinematics partner to define the cinematic style and develop the storytelling language. Working closely with partners Sony and Sumo from script to 2D storyboards, to edit; all the way to final real-time cinematic, ensured the clear-cut linking of the narrative to the look and feel of the surrounding gameplay.

Skypark has responded to The Pyramid in Anderston, with gifts, and an appeal for used warm jackets, food and toiletry items. The Pyramid assists hundreds of families that live in the Anderston area and will open a pop-up site throughout the Spring. The Charity is now appealing for essential items including warm clothing for children and families. Ailsa MacKenzie, Development Officer from The Pyramid said: “Every month we will be supporting local children and families by providing activities, essential toiletry items, fruit and vegetables and a weekly food share that is open to everyone in the area on completion of a simple self-referral form from our website.

“We are working with Angelic Threads to distribute pre-loved school uniform and reusable face coverings to people in the community. We urgently need donations of toiletries, pre-loved school uniform, children’s winter coats, boots, scarves and gloves in good condition. We also need tightly woven material that can be recycled into face coverings and washed at 60 degrees. Thanks to everyone that is helping to make a difference.”

Fleet Alliance donated over £7k in December to the Glasgow NE and NW Foodbank, a centre that shares the belief that no one should go hungry and relies on the donations and practical support from local businesses to tackle food poverty. The Charity is also appealing for donations of essential food items at that the drop off points below. Martin Brown, Managing Director said:
“With so many people already struggling to provide food and basic items, on top of such a difficult year, we decided to break the tradition of corporate gift-giving at Christmas and instead give back to those in need. In addition to our corporate gift budget donation, our staff came together to generously donate a further £1,065, which the company then doubled, taking our total to over £7,000!”

MCR PATHWAYS APPEALS FOR MENTORS IN GLASGOW TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE Glasgow-based mentoring charity, MCR Pathways is working hard to support young people who face disadvantage that impacts on their education. They do this by supporting them through mentoring. Simply meeting a volunteer mentor they have been matched with for an hour a week has been proven to make a transformational difference for young people. Currently MCR Pathways is looking for more mentors to support pupils in all 30 secondary schools in Glasgow, particularly for the next school year. Volunteer mentors are asked to commit just one hour a week for a minimum of one year and will be trained, before being matched with a young person from a nearby school. Once matched, the volunteer mentor helps the young person build confidence, overcome challenges, focus on education and embark on a positive future. Matches are based on sharing common interests, having similar personalities and sometimes life experiences.

Our existing volunteers are from all walks of life; anyone can be a mentor - you just need an hour a week and to care. We’d also love to hear from employers who would like to support staff to take part. Mentors and their employers gain massively from the experience for relatively little time commitment.

Throughout the pandemic, MCR Pathways has continued to provide support by introducing virtual mentoring and giving laptops and WiFi for those in need. This ongoing support has helped 2,500 young people each week, many of whom are among the most vulnerable and at risk of falling behind with their education. MCR Pathways has moved their mentor recruitment process online – from sign up to training – to ensure they can continue to support young people in 2021.
MCR Pathways’ vision is that every young person in Scotland gets the same education outcomes, career opportunities and life chances, despite the challenges that some young people face. I volunteered to become a mentor with MCR Pathways back in 2017. From day one I enjoyed the process. The MCR Team made me feel very welcome and the training was excellent. I was quickly matched with 15-year-old Katy*, who was in third year at Knightswood Academy.

I was a bit nervous meeting Katy but we bonded over a mutual love for Ru Paul’s Drag Race. Before lockdown we’d meet for 40 minutes at Katy’s school and always had an interesting catch up. Sometimes we did a bit of schoolwork or talk about what Katy would like to do when she left school, and sometimes, we’d share Netflix recommendations or Katy would keep me updated on all things Little Mix. Katy was in her final year at school when lockdown started in March 2020, so we kept in touch via Facetime – facilitated by the MCR coordinator.

Katy is such an amazing young woman and I got so much out of being her mentor for 2 ½ years. She’s now left school and in first year at college with plans to become a nurse. We keep in touch every few weeks by email and plan to catch up for a coffee when lockdown eases. If anyone has an hour a week to spare mentoring a young person is such a great way to spend it. *name changed

A Chilly’s water bottle is on the way to Lorraine Kerr of V.Ships for sharing photos of her acro gymnast daughter’s lockdown training with mum and dad. We are not worthy… Lorraine said: “Our eldest daughter is an acro gymnast and due to the restrictions in place for indoor sports, has hardly been able to practice her moves, as she’s not been allowed to touch her trio partners for most of 2020 and all 2021 so far. To keep her skills up, mum and dad have had to step in to keep her training. These are the kinds of moves she’d usually do with her 11 and 12 year old partners! There’s been a lot of bloopers too but luckily no injuries! Her club has been fantastic in supporting the kids all year with daily weekly and monthly challenges, not just the gymnasts, but all the family along with zoom classes for the gymnasts six days a week. Downstairs the house is no longer a home, it’s an office and a gym too!”

Urgent Volunteer Appeal for Glasgow’s Number One Baby and Family Support Service If you are thinking of giving back to the community then why not consider volunteering with one of our partners, Glasgow’s No1 Baby and Family Support Service. Like many, the Charity has been impacted by the pandemic and is appealing for volunteers to get in touch as soon as possible to deliver their essential service around the City. Glasgow’s No1 Baby and Family Support Service was founded in 2017, by Audrey Dempsey to help families with babies in the north of Glasgow. It has grown rapidly and operates from a dedicated unit in Forge Street with the help of Carol Ann McGurk. The team supports the wider needs of families where it helps with anything from furnishing a home to supplying clothing. It is planning on providing a community outreach service as soon as possible this year.
