We’re so excited to announce the line-up in the first of two music sessions and our first music collaboration with Mildreds Dairy Promotions. Starring some of Scotland’s best musicians and song writers the sessions will stream new material in August by Edinburgh’s Mt. Doubt and Glasgow’s Findlay Napier and Daniel Meade. A second line up is to be announced in September.

promotional collateral at a time when musicians have been unable to play live. Since 2015, Mt. Doubt has been the songwriting vehicle of musician and writer Leo Bargery. The band has released three albums and three EPs and performing alongside the likes of Idlewild, White Lie and Admiral Fallow.

practicing. It’s almost 15 months since we last played. Our record also came out during Lockdown, so no-one has really seen us perform these songs. That will be exciting and a good test for us ahead of upcoming shows towards the end of the year. Hopefully, new people will see the sessions, like the songs and grab a record too!”

Leo Bargery of Mt. Doubt said: Findlay Napier will be playing “The tracks we’ll be playing are songs from his forthcoming album A long standing supporter of all going to be taken from our ‘It is What it is. He said: “I am really Scottish arts programmes - most recent album ‘Doubtlands’, excited to be able to take part in including Glasgow International, which came out in October 2020. this filming. It will be the first Arts and Business and Skypark We’re going to play ‘Caravans on time I ever get to play some of Curatorial Fellowship 2019 in a Hill’, ‘Dark Slopes Away’ and these songs from my new album partnership with the GSA - Skypark ‘Waiting Rooms’. Being involved live. It’s even the first time I get Music Sessions launch in response in the sessions is going to benefit to play my new Fylde guitar live… to the struggle in the music us as a band in an array of ways it arrived, ready to hit the road, industry due to the pandemic, not least just being able to be on the first week of lockdown giving new music exposure and back together playing music and last March!” 4

Daniel Meade also joined the first session that recorded on 1st July. Daniel said: “Thanks for having us on, I’m very grateful for the opportunity to play a few songs from my various lockdown projects live for the first time, with Lloyd Reid on guitar… it’s been way too long. See y’there!” Bobby Motherwell, founder of Mildred’s Dairy Promotions that has partnered with Skypark in the creation of the event said: “We jumped at the chance to be involved in this great initiative to help Scottish artists get their new music heard during what has been, a very testing year for musicians and the live music scene in Scotland. We think this is a great idea and a great way to bring musicians, artists and music fans together.”

Skypark Sessions Featuring Daniel Meade streams on 13 August @ 8pm Skypark Sessions Featuring Findlay Napier streams on 20th August @ 8pm

THE LOWDOWN ON OUR ACTS Daniel Meade has toured and worked with acts such as The Proclaimers, Ocean Colour Scene, Sturgill Simpson, Old Crow Medicine Show, Diana Jones, Pokey LaFarge, Willie Watson, Dom Flemons and Robbie Fulks, to name a few. Findlay Napier is one of Scotland's finest singer songwriters. In 2018 he was the first solo act to be nominated for Live Act of the Year at the Scot’s Trad. Music Awards. Described as Michael Marra meets Elvis Costello, a Caledonian Loudon Wainwright III or a Scottish James Taylor, this master storyteller's songs are full of earthy humour, hopeless love and biting satire. Since 2015, Mt. Doubt has been the songwriting vehicle of musician and writer Leo Bargery. In all of the project’s various guises, the band have remained prolific, releasing three albums and three EPs and performing alongside the likes of Idlewild, White Lies, Admiral Fallow and more.

THE QUEEN TOURS SPIRE GLOBAL UK AND AAC CLYDE SPACE A soaring success this summer was The Queen’s tour of Spire Global UK and AAC Clyde Space, as part of the traditional Holyrood Week that focused on celebrating Scotland’s contribution to the thriving UK Space sector.

and The Lord Provost of Glasgow Philip Braat. They were presented with an overview of Spire Global UK’s and AAC Clyde Space’s cutting-edge technology and were shown how it is being used to solve real world issues. Her Majesty and Her Royal Highness spoke to staff from AAC Clyde Space, who specialise in the development of satellite technology that is deployed to gather data during space missions.

The visit highlighted the UK’s commitment to become a global leader in the Space Industry, STEM promotion and the development of sovereign capabilities, such as vertical launches from Scotland that will enable the UK to offer endto-end small satellite supply chain capabilities.

A tenant since 2014, AAC Clyde Space continues to go from strength to strength being the original manufacturers of Scotland's first ever satellite UKube-1, roughly the size of a whisky box. UKube-1 was launched aboard a Russian Soyuz-2 rocket from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan.

During the visit, The Queen and Princess Anne met with the Head of the UK Space Agency, Dr Graham Turnock 6

“We’re honoured to have had our royal guests here at AAC Clyde Space today, to celebrate Scotland’s contribution to the thriving UK Space sector. Over the last two decades, Scotland has built a world leading industry in satellite manufacturing, engineering, data, and groundbreaking research. As we look forward to the next chapters in this successful journey, including the UK’s first orbital spaceport, this is a great time to not only celebrate but to promote Scotland’s growing space industry to future generations.” said AAC Clyde Space CEO, Luis Gomes.

"

“It was an honour to welcome Her Majesty and Her Royal Highness, where we were able to demonstrate the benefits of our technology and how these cutting-edge capabilities are used to better inform our understanding of the world. At a critical time for our planet, continuous technological advancements are needed to tackle the impending threats posed by climate change. The space industry in Scotland, and across the wider UK, has ambitious targets for growth over the coming decade. At Spire Global, we are determined to play our part in realising those ambitions.”

Spire Global UK has expanded its on-site presence at Skypark rapidly since 2015. Spire designs and manufactures all its satellites in-house and has announced plans to swap the existing 11,000 sq ft site for a 29,500 sq ft space, also located at Skypark, later this year. Skypark is proud to play a part in accommodating Scotland’s thriving space sector and to demonstrate our business community as a cornerstone of the City’s economic strength.

OUR SUMMER OF ART All eyes turned to our pop up gallery for Glasgow International 2021, one of the UK’s largest and most influential visual arts festivals and the student-led Alternative Degree Show Festival.

and work in Glasgow. The festival’s theme Attention, which amongst other things invited us to think about how we pay attention to things and people around us, and the place of art in this.

Now in our third year supporting Glasgow International arts programme, it featured exhibitions by a number of artists as part of the Across the City Programme that takes art into the wider community.

As part of the Across the City Programme, Don’t Let the Bastards Grind You Down exhibition at Skypark featured drawings, paintings and sculptures by Liv Fontaine, Paul Kindersley and Huhtamaki Wab, artists who are known for creating larger than life personae within their film and performance practice.

Work was selected from proposals by artists, arts organisations, curators and producers who live

10

The curator Jenny Tipton, artist and event maker of Cabbage said:

“I am pleased Cabbage was able to support each artist to develop new work through its Resilience Programme, which means almost all of the work in the show has not been exhibited before. We thank Glasgow International, Creative Scotland and Skypark for their support.”

In addition, the Across the City Programme featured work by Andrew Sim that explored Queer love, relationships and community building through figurative and landscape pastel drawings on canvas. Sim uses culturally familiar "monsters" such as Bigfoot and werewolves as the subject matter, elevating them and using them as archetypal representations of aspects of Queer love and divinity.

As major supporters of Glasgow School of Art, it’s been an honour to be a host venue for The Alternative Degree Show Festival 2021. In July, the student-led exhibition showcased the work of 144 emerging artists across Glasgow including 22 at Skypark. Using spaces creatively across the campus, the Festival featured Fine Art, Painting, Print Making and Photography, showcasing a new generation of talent that is set to follow in the footsteps of other celebrated artists.

One of the graduating organisers of the Alternative Degree Show Festival, Susan Torrance said:

“It’s wonderful to announce our first show in 2 years and the reemergence of creativity! We’ve had an amazing response to the exhibition, with 90% of years 2020/21 graduates stepping up to present their work. We thank Skypark for supporting our Festival.” 11

REMOTE WORKING HOW HAS IT BEEN? We hear from tenant Axis Studios on their planning and how they are keeping spirits up, and employee Linda Killen who shares her lunch break view from home.

Axis was about three weeks ahead of the Scottish government in terms of planning for COVID. We had remote working done and dusted before the lockdown was announced. The health and wellbeing of our staff and their families is of the utmost importance to us, so we took action to put in place a business continuity plan that would both protect our staff and keep the studio working. Our plan consisted of having our artists working from home with the equipment they needed to work and contribute as if they were in the office working. With disruption to every aspect of life, it was important for Axis to operate as much of a “business as usual” approach to minimise disruption but also for the benefit of our teams. COVID-19 hasn’t impacted the animation sector as it has some other industries, and we are just as busy. In 2020 we completed 22 working from home including Playstation’s 12

“Sackboy: A Big Adventure” and “The Tall Grass” from Netflix’s Love, Death and Robot’s. We knew that many of our solutions will need to be people solutions as much as technology solutions. Our teams continue to monitor advice from the UK Government, Scottish Government, public health organisation and the WHO. Any updates are then shared on our internal communications platform, giving our artists all the information they need. Covid-19 may have stopped meeting face-to-face for now, but we have made an enormous effort to continue the fun and culture by meeting up, and hosting some fabulous parties, but this time virtually. Our virtual parties and regular team catch-ups are helping everyone in the business still feel connected and part of the Axis Studios family.

"

Linda Killen from Motorola Solutions shares this majestic view from her home office window, a visiting heron who stops by every few days for a spot of lunch.

"

‘The heron visits mid-afternoon for a few days at a time then I don't see him for weeks. There's a burn across the road from us, I think he has a food source there and there's a series of reservoirs about a mile away, so I think he lives up there. There have been lots of sightings of him up that way. There are some lovely walks around the reservoirs that I've done several times during the past year or so. ‘ I've been full time at home since March 2020, popping into the office on the odd occasion. I've quite enjoyed it, to be honest. I miss seeing people and having office banter, but I really don't

miss the commute. Being home let me support my daughter trying to learn from home, which was quite challenging for everyone concerned, so I'm pleased I was in a position to be able to be around for her. I don't think I'll be returning to the office full time - we're looking at ways of introducing flexibility for people who want it once the office is back in use. We don't have any timescales yet, just following the Scottish Government guidelines. ‘

LOVE LOCAL: KINTYRE GIN In celebration of community, our thanks go to Head Distiller Su Black of Kintyre Gin for going above and beyond the call of duty when she made a personal delivery to Skypark, all the way from Kintyre! Su gave up a 20 year career in the oil industry and began producing Kintyre Gin in 2017. Using its own renewable energy, powered from the small hydro-electric scheme at Torrisdale Castle Estate, water is sourced from the hill from which they take their name. ‘Beinn an Tuirc’ translates from gaelic as ‘The Hill of the Wild Boar’ and is the highest point in Kintyre.

With a distillery shop and regular tours, the team is on a mission to encourage more visitors to Kintyre and support local enterprises with the Carradale Music Festival and the Mull of Kintyre Virtual Music Festival. Find out more from hwww.kintyregin.com

SOCKS FOR GLASGOW CITY MISSION Did you know? ‘Socks are the most requested item by homeless shelters’

to donate 100 pairs to Glasgow City Mission. The Charity runs an Overnight Welcome Centre and City Centre Project supporting people affected by homelessness and poverty.

This is because socks are rarely donated, as we wear through them and wouldn't donate old smelly socks with holes - unlike pre-worn coats, coffee or money. This in turn leads to lots of foot issues for the people most in need.

Stand4 Socks works on multiple causes in multiple countries through ethically made socks. It has donated 75k pairs for every pair bought through Buy one = Give One.

Stand4 Socks is having a positive impact in the UK and around the world through its ethically made sock collections and Skypark has teamed up with Stand4 Socks

If you’re interested in making a positive impact please visit www.stand4socks.com 14

FLEET ALLIANCE’S VIRTUAL RACE RAISES £700 FOR GLASGOW’S LAUNCH FOODS

"

Fleet Alliance has raised £700 for Launch Foods by hosting a virtual ‘Meet in the Middle’ race with their staff based at Fleet Alliance, Uckfield. The 32 participants walked, ran, and cycled in teams of 4 to ‘Meet in the Middle’ of the Glasgow and Uckfield offices (232 miles to be exact). Staff clocked up an impressive 1,854 miles of distance completed with one team crossing the finish line in just 6 days. Phew! 15

Craig Johnson, Founder, Launch Foods, commented: Since we began feeding Glasgow’s kids back in 2018 we have now surpassed 250,000 free meals. As we don’t receive any government support for our work donations are greatly appreciated. Your kindness will help feed 700 children. That’s 700 full tummies, thank you!

SUPPORTING YOUNG PEOPLE ACROSS SCOTLAND WITH NET ZERO VIRTUAL WORK EXPERIENCE Monday 14th June saw the launch of a brand new virtual 'Net Zero' themed work experience programme, hosted by the Engineering Development Trust (EDT) with sponsorship and contributions from organisations including our friends at Leidos! The work experience programme was made free and available to all S3-S6 school pupils and school leavers across Scotland. Hosted on a secure platform, it allowed the young people to take part on days and times that suited them, with around 1-2 weeks' of content they could complete at their own pace over a 4-week period. During the programme, the young people worked through 4 sectorspecific modules on the online platform, then had a choice of 2 technology and energy-themed projects at the end. This included company videos, live sessions, fun tasks and project work designed to showcase companies and develop students' strengths, horizons and networks. All young people who completed the programme were then eligible to receive an Industrial Cadet Silver Award.

Fiona Keady, UK Talent Business Partner at Leidos, said

"

This programme was an important way for us to help young people build skills and experience they may otherwise have missed out on due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was also a great opportunity to talk to young people about Net Zero, the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) skills needed to impact climate change, and the innovative ways companies like ours are working towards a Net Zero future. We’re now looking forward to having the world visit Glasgow later this year for COP26 and to continuing to engage with young people about this important subject and how it may impact their future.

EDT is the largest provider of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) enrichment activities for UK young people.

GET YOUR BIKE FIXED ON-SITE WITH DR BIKE FROM MOTION FORWARD! A trial run earlier this summer offering our free on site bike maintenance clinic was a huge success, with many cyclists not having had their bikes serviced at all over lockdown. We hear from the team behind Dr Bike on their new venture and look forward to having our bike mechanics back for their regular monthly visit.

At Motion Forward, a new venture from Bike for Good, we are committed to supporting the benefits that more people cycling brings to the city. To support cycling to work, we are delighted to offer free bike servicing to Skypark cyclists, on-site on the first Tuesday afternoon of each month. It is no secret that a well-maintained bike works better and so whether your bike is used daily, or it has been slightly neglected, we can help get it rolling smoothly and safely. We will give your bike a comprehensive safety check, replace small parts such as brake pads and cables, fix brakes that don’t work or gears that are skipping, solve that annoying rattle or wobbly part and offer advice on any repairs that can’t be completed on-site.

The first session since the easing of restrictions took place on the 15th June with a great response from participants. We saw a real mix of bikes from new e-bikes with gear indexing adjustments needed to older hybrids in need of a bit of an overhaul and were able to help improve their performance while offering some guidance on repairs or parts that needed some further attention. There were lots of enquiries from those passing about the next event so keep your eyes peeled for info and come and see us at the next session! Dr Bik e Tuesd returns ay 3rd Augus at the t, F Squar innieston e Bike ra and m onthly cks, therea fter.

PHYSIO FIX Our physiotherapy clinic has started back, working out of our new treatment room, located beside the indoor Bike Facilities on level -2, Skypark 1. We caught up with Lead Physiotherapist Chris Wicks to find out what issues clients are coming to him with. Most Common Injuries Currently? We are seeing a lot of shoulder, neck and lower back complaints at present. Whilst there is not one sole cause for this. This is more than likely due to people sitting for longer when they are working from home. They do not always have the best desk set up and this can cause musculoskeletal (MSK) issues.

How Can We Help? We are experts in MSK injuries, especially desk based complaints. We can provide hands on treatment to aid in correcting muscle tension, provide tailored strengthening programmes to correct muscle imbalances and ergonomic advice regarding desk set up. We have appointments available for assessment and treatment onsite at Skypark every Tuesday in the treatment room. If Tuesday isn't the best day for you, we have appointments available Thursday and Friday in clinic at 211 St Vincent Street.

Our full range of amenities and services can be seen at www.skypark-glasgow.com

Any Quick Fixes? Ensure that the top of your monitor screen is at eye level and your elbow and knees are at right ankles when sitting and working. Most importantly, stand up from your desk and mobilise/stretch every 20mins.

Our on-site Physio Clinic runs Tuesday afternoons. Best way to book? Send a message through the Skypark App, or Email contact@physiofocused.com 19
