NEW COFFEE POD SERVING SOON! Nothing quite beats the aroma of fresh coffee to perk you up! All coffee lovers can look forward to picking up their full-bodied favourites from our new coffee pod that will be serving next year from Finnieston Square. The Podâ€™s design will feature an upcycled shipping container, with a glazed wall and views into a seated area that is perfect for quick coffee stops. A steel walkway with a hinge-up canopy will provide a serving area for takeaway coffee. Watch this space for coffee pod opening news and Skyperks coming your way!

MAKING 2020 AWESOME ONE SATELLITE AT A TIME We’ve packed a lot into 2020, from our new satellite contract for the development of the next generation of space based maritime communications, the announcement of our Scottish Enterprise grant to develop cutting edge satellites, to expanding our awesome team.

We announced in June that AAC Clyde Space secured a research and development grant of up to 2.3M GBP from Scottish Enterprise to develop, manufacture and gain in-orbit heritage on next generation nano and small satellites. The grant will support R&D, new equipment acquisitions as well as the creation of new jobs. A significant milestone for AAC Clyde Space was the announcement of our new satellite contract with ORBCOMM and SAAB. This project grants AAC Clyde Space approx. 1.5 million GBP to develop the next generation of space based VDES system, enabling ships to carry a two-way communication across the globe. This project marks the beginning on a new era in maritime communications with the 3U satellite (around the size of a loaf of bread) planned to launch in mid-2022 and will help ships navigate the high seas, creating smarter routes via satellite communication which in turn saves fuel and the environment. Production will begin this year and will be manufactured in our new facilities in Uppsala, the first of many brilliant projects in the new cleanroom.

The beginning of September saw a successful rocket launch for AAC Clyde Space, the VV16 Vega was carrying various products of ours on-board alongside two of our satellites, PICASSO & TARS, both built in our Skypark premises in Glasgow. PICASSO is a golden CubeSat built for a European Space Agency earth observation mission which will measure the ozone distribution in the stratosphere and the satellite successfully made contact with our ground station in Glasgow which was great news for our team. TARS was the second satellite successfully launched in September on the Ariane Space Vega launch and was the third satellite build by AAC Clyde Space for Kepler Communications. TARS is a 6U CubeSat which is part of the Satellite Applications Catapult IOD programme, supported by the UK Space Agency. We also contributed to the first “Made in Luxembourg” satellite of its kind, the ESAIL mission by LuxSpace which we are delighted to say was successfully powered by our leading smallsat power system products.

We welcomed Hyperion Technologies to the AAC Clyde Space family in October, the announcement that we acquired a fantastic New Space company means that we can further extend our product offering, access to key tech whilst adding substantial capability to our missions. Hyperion Technologies are Dutch company based in the Delft who specialise in high performance, components for small spacecraft, being particularly renowned for its attitude and orbit control technologies, among others.

We have many satellites orbiting earth, but we aren’t stopping there, our cutting-edge software is heading to Jupiter on a European Space Agency mission, JUICE. The spacecraft heading to Jupiter is an exploratory mission of the planet and its moons. JUICE will be the first spacecraft ever to orbit a giant’s planet large moon and AAC Clyde Space are proud to be part of this moment, as you may be able to tell our work is never boring and projects like this are the reason why.

Despite the current global pandemic changing the way that we work AAC Clyde Space continue to lead the way in the small satellite industry through innovation, hard work and an awesome team of people. It’s fair to say it has been a busy few months for AAC Clyde Space and we won’t be stopping there, we look forward to what the rest of 2020 has in store.

THE PYRAMID POP UP: HELPERS NEEDED FOR HALLOWE’EN WEEKLY POP UPS!

If you can spare a couple of hours to volunteer on Wednesdays, in the run up to Hallowe’en and Christmas, our local community hub The Pyramid Pop Up would love to hear from you! All treats and no tricks why not join in Window Wanderland for a covid-safe guising alternative that is open to everyone including Skypark businesses!

“As a covid-safe guising alternative, Anderston’s first Window Wanderland will take place on 31st October! Spooky window making materials will be provided on 28th October. On 31st October, families and children are invited to come to The Pyramid in costume for on the spot prizes, and to pick up treat bags, hot dogs, popcorn, and toffee apples. They can 'wander' with their families to view Window Wanderland. Everyone in the area including Skypark businesses are welcome to create their own window designs. Displays can be simple or be as creative as you like!”

The Pyramid Pop Up is a community event for children and families and is calling for volunteers to give a few hours starting from 21st October, to help organise and distribute essential items, with children’s Hallowe’en activity packs and treat bags. Ailsa MacKenzie, Development Officer from The Pyramid said: “Everything is free to primary school children and their families living in the local area. We have a choice of fresh produce from our fruit and vegetable stall, a hand sanitiser refill station, reusable face coverings, essential toiletries, food basics and period products. There’ll be regular extras including activity packs, our toy and game swap and a pre-loved school uniform and winter coat bank. We also offer information about other sources of help and support in Glasgow.

All Pop Up events, including Hallowe’en, are free to children attending St Patrick’s and Anderston Primary Schools and those who live in the G3 7 and G3 8 area. Entry tickets will be distributed via school, or email ailsa@thepyramid.scot. Sign up online at www.windowwanderland.com, to take part in Anderston’s first Window Wanderland. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR RAFFLE PRIZE WINNERS!

Martin McDonald from everis, Paul O'Neill from CMC Affinity, and Gillian Munro from Leidos were the lucky winners of the artists raffle! Three local artists kindly donated a piece of original artwork each, to help raise funds for Launch Foods charity. Thanks to The Studio of Fine Art Co. for coordinating and everyone who entered and helped raise vital funds. We hope to be able to bring the artist's exhibitions to Skypark next year, stay tuned for updates!

The Pyramid is collecting food and essential toiletries, as well as outgrown school uniform and children’s winter coats and footwear. Angelic Threads, a volunteer group formed in response to the pandemic, provide free reusable face coverings to anyone who needs them and recycle donations of material to make these – sheets, duvet covers, old shirts or any tightly woven fabric that can be washed at min 60 degrees, can be dropped into The Pyramid on Wednesdays from 3.15pm – 6.15pm. Angelic Threads are recruiting volunteers who can sew masks at home. Everything is 9

supplied, dropped off and picked up. LEIDOS GRADUATES AND APPRENTICES IN SCOTTISH CHALLENGE WIN

n more good news, Leidos graduates and apprentices are winners of the Association for Project Management 2020 Scotland Challenge, that recognises their skills and work with the charity, Achieve More Scotland. The nine-month competition tests the skills of up-and-coming project managers by challenging them to create and deliver a project to benefit their chosen charity. The winning team Catherine Fevre, Callum Harley, Jen Clelland, Vickie McArthur, and Euan Brady – created a project aimed at collecting sportswear and equipment for Achieve More Scotland, which organises sports and activities for young people. As part of Leidos’ graduate and apprenticeship programme, the team began the challenge in October 2019 collecting donations at Skypark. Donation bins were placed in gyms and leisure centres across the City however, their efforts were cut short by Covid-19 and the closure of all sports facilities.

Team Project Manager Catherine Fevre said: “We got off to a great start with the challenge and received lots of great donations, including a skateboard and kit for a full netball squad. We had just organised our branded donation bins and made agreements with lots of gyms and leisure centres when lockdown happened, and they all closed. “But we quickly adapted and instead organised virtual fitness classes to raise funds for Achieve More Scotland. The challenge may be over, but we plan to continue supporting the charity and will have our donation bins in gyms and leisure centres as soon as they reopen in Scotland.” Matt Bruce-Kingsmill, Scotland Chair of APM, said: “This is a fantastic achievement. The team has worked hard and delivered. I admire their achievements throughout the competition, along with adapting to changing deadlines and deliverables brought about by Covid-19. The judges were all really impressed with Team Leidos’ reports and presentations”. www.leidos.com

1.5 metre haircuts raise funds for children’s charity

hree Leidos colleagues, Elise McGill, Michael Seils and Fiona Keady, have donated their hair and raised more than £2,000 for the Little Princess Trust charity. The charity provides real hair wigs to children and young people who lose their hair to cancer and other illnesses as well as funding vital research to help end childhood cancer. The colleagues were inspired when Michael, whose hair has long been the envy of his Skypark colleagues, announced that he was considering shaving it off. Elise and Fiona spotted an opportunity to raise money and awareness for a great cause. Fiona said: “Having talked about donating our hair for so long, it felt a bit surreal when the big day finally came. Michael was relaxed about the whole thing – Elise and I much less so – but we were all 100% committed to going through with it for the Little Princess Trust. We donated around 1.5 metres of hair between us in the end, which will now be turned into real hair wigs for children. “Throughout this whole experience, we have had fantastic support from our colleagues, friends, and family, who have helped us raise more than £2,000 for the charity’s wig-making costs and vital research. And a special thank you to Lisa and the team at Skypark for lending us the glass meeting room for the day – without it, our hair chops wouldn’t have happened! Our new looks will take a bit of getting used to, but we’re so glad we did it.” The Little Princess Trust relies solely on the efforts of community fundraisers. AXIS IN EXPANSION DRIVE FOR THE BIGGEST EVER ANIMATION MADE IN SCOTLAND With a worldwide reputation as an animation and visual effects specialist, the future of Skypark-based Axis Studios has never looked brighter. For the company is in the process of recruiting over 50 people to work on a film that is understood to be the biggest ever animation to be made in Scotland.

With details of the film to be revealed in 2021, the company already employs 325 and creates content for global brands such as Universal Studios, the BBC and Netflix. It is expected that the film will be Axis’ biggest production in terms of profile, length of content and sheer number of people involved. Axis Studios chief executive Richard Scott said: “A major part of the vision for Axis over the last three years has been to move into this area of film production and to have bigger productions happening here in Scotland, so we’re really excited about that. “In the eyes of others, especially those in the US, it takes us from being a studio that had the potential to do this, to a studio that’s actually doing it,” Richard said. “We only started a few months ago, even though we can’t reveal all the details people are showing a lot of interest.” Axis’ team has recently worked on Sky One’s A Discovery of Witches, Sky Atlantic’s Chernobyl, HBO’s Catherine The Great and Shaun The Sheep: Farmageddon, the stop motion film by Bristol-based studio Aardman Animations. Axis’s animation credits include the animated Netflix series Love, Death + Robots and Nickelodeon series Lego City Adventures. “As everyone knows, the entertainments industry is very focused in London, New York, and Los Angeles,” Richard finished. “It’s not easy to break in, but it’s not impossible. We believe that what Axis is doing will help other companies in Scotland realise that they can do it too.”

Skypark tenant since 2005, OneSearch Direct is to remain at Skypark for the next 5 years as it outlines its plans for rapid expansion on a new 7,487 sq.ft. office space. A leader in the supply of legal and data products to the UK’s property market, OneSearch Direct was acquired by Landmark Information Group, part of Daily Mail and General Trust plc. (DMGT), in 2019.

FLU JABS While we will not be holding on-site flu clinics this year, REACH Pharmacy now have stock of vaccinations from the NHS to vaccinate people with underlying medical conditions. Flu jabs for the general public are not yet available, but when they are, the pharmacy will offer a pre-booked flu clinic in your office or a drop in service in the pharmacy.
