CELEBRATE 25 YEARS
Fincas Sunshine, the Estate Agent based in Es Mercadal, is run by Carol Thomas. Carol first started the business in Playas de Fornells over 25 years ago where she set up her first office. In 2004, she moved the main office to Es Mercadal, with the Fornells office opening during the summer months. 5 years ago she joined forces with Portal Menorca, the group of 6 local estate agents pooling their resources in Menorca. Carol now has a team of 4 working from the main office, and they have been together for several years. Vanessa and Juani are both from Alaior; Juani has been with Carol for 12 years. Anthony, from Belgium, a trained architect, is the newest member of the team. Like many British people living in Menorca, Carol came to the island 43 years ago as a rep and then worked in a hotel in Cala Galdana, before changing career to become an estate agent. She loved working in the property business and successfully studied for her API, the official qualification for Estate Agents in Spain. As the owner of the company, Carol was the only member of the team allowed to leave her house and visit properties during COVID. Self employed people were allowed to continue working as there was no initial help for them from the Government. Covid changed the way of working with video viewings becoming the new normal and Carol was delighted to sell a house to British clients in the UK without them visiting the property. 2021, the year following COVID was the best year for the business as the property market caught up with the latent demand and Menorca became a popular place for second homes and relocations. The market has continued to remain strong albeit restrained by the lack of properties available. Fincas Sunshine works with a local developer, building quality apartments in Es Mercadal. They also recommend a local company Engin Menorca, a specialist in solar energy which helps with installations and grants for homeowners. The estate agency business also provides property management, organising cleaning, laundry and refurbishments for their clients. Fincas Sunshine sells property all across the island. They have many British clients who prefer to deal with an understanding agent in their native language, making the process simple and stress free, but they also have customers from France, Belgium, Italy and Germany as well as the Spanish mainland and many loyal residents in the local area. The relationship with Portal Menorca is working very well. The company quotes Henry Ford “Coming together is the beginning. Staying together is progress. Working together is success”!
