Pedro´s Boat is now a distributor of Candela C-8 on the island, a revolutionary electric boat that has an innovative hydrofoil system and can navigate without generating polluting emissions. Candela C-8 has been named the European Powerboat of the Year 2023. One of the standout features of the Candela C-8 is its flight capability. Yes, you read that right, this boat can fly on water! Thanks to its hydrofoil technology, the Candela C-8 rises above the waves, providing a smooth and jolt-free sailing experience. In addition, this feature significantly reduces power consumption and increases the efficiency of the boat. The C-8 hull is vacuum infused from 100% carbon fiber, which allows the weight to be significantly less than similar boats. Samuel Pons of Pedro’s Boat tells us “If you pull the wheel hard, you’ll feel the driving sensation of a racing car, thanks to instant feedback from the fly-by-wire steering. Combined with the hydrofoil’s silent, magic-carpet ride in rough conditions, the C-8 offers a superior experience at sea. The boat is available for our clients and friends to test until 7th July.” Electric hydro foiling makes the C-8 the only electric boat with real range at speed. The Candela C-8 is equipped with a powerful electric motor and a high-capacity battery that gives it impressive self-sufficiency. You can navigate up to 50 nautical miles on a single charge, allowing you to explore the most remote corners of Menorca without worrying about power. Plus, the boat is easily charged via a conventional plug, making it a convenient and affordable option.
Perhaps the most important feature for passengers is that the boat offers a silent and environmentally friendly journey. Without noise or vibrations, you will be able to enjoy the tranquillity of the natural environment of Menorca while you navigate through its crystalline waters. You will also contribute to the preservation of the environment, since this boat does not emit exhaust gases or produce noise pollution. A traditional 7.5 m petrol boat consumes about 15 x more fuel than a family car, leaving a heavy footprint on our planet. Samuel says. “We firmly believe in the importance of sustainability and the Candela C-8 represents the future of electric boating and we are excited to share it with you.” Background to Candela Candela was founded in 2014 by Gustav Hasselskog. Determined to find ways to make electric boats with both range and speed, he gathered a task force consisting of some of the world’s leading experts with the mission: to make an electric boat with better performance than the fossil fuel competitors. At the end of 2016, a full-scale prototype was launched, reaching the target of more than 50 nautical miles per charge at a speed of 22 knots. Serial production of the world’s first electric hydrofoil boat started in 2019. In 2020, Candela C-7 became the best-selling electric boat in Europe. The most advanced electric boat battery pack ever comes from… a car. The new Candela C-8s, including the Polestar edition, use the same 69 kWh pack as the Polestar 2 electric performance fastback. Gustav says “We’ve made the first no-compromise electric boat: fast, with long-range, and fun to drive. But also 95% cheaper to operate, totally silent, and it doesn’t create any wake. An electric hydrofoil boat is inherently unstable, which means it can’t fly unless a computer continually adjusts the hydrofoils. To develop the sensor suite, hardware and software that create a smooth, stable and safe ride took 5 years of R&D. The first flight was magical.”
