2018 PINOT NOIR SLEEPY HOLLOW VINEYARD SANTA LUCIA HIGHLANDS

Vineyard Notes

Grown in the iconic Sleepy Hollow vineyard, the blocks chosen for this wine are planted in Arroyo Seco and Gravelly Sandy loam. Clone 667 was used with de-clumping and green passes in each block. All grapes were hand harvested.

Winery Notes

After hand-harvesting the grapes were 100% destemmed and cold soaked for 4-5 days. All picks and lots were kept separate. The grapes spent 14-20 days on their skins with gentle punch downs 3-4 times a day. The wine was gravity racked to barrel and sat on the lees without stirring. Aged 9 months in French oak of which 49% was new.

Tasting Notes

Sitting just above the wine’s surface, a layer of complex aromas evolves: fresh cranberry, pomegranate and raspberry that turns into crushed gravel, coast redwood forest floor, lemon zest and shiitake mushroom. In the mouth, the wine shows itself as indulgent with a pleasing depth and slight heft; similar cranberry, a touch of blue fruits and hints of lavender combine for a satiating richness. The wine closes with notes of brioche and strawberry tart, with very little tannin and a quenching, balanced acidity.
