Song Squeeze

-the latest music projects and why you should or shouldn’t listen to them-

2022’s music seems to be very promising. Honestly, this statement couldn’t be truer, now that February has brought a lot of diversity and beautiful sounds in the music industry. Now, it’s time to explore some of them and see which are worth listening to!

Laurel Hell Mitski

Once Twice Melody Beach House

Surprisingly, this is the first Mitski album I’ve ever listened to. Nonetheless, I think it’s been a really good introduction to her discography for me. This album fits perfectly into the „sad indie girl music” vibe. And while this kind of album never seems to go wrong, most of the times it doesn’t stand out either.

Beach House’s music is simply magical. And this album makes no exception. It’s been four years since their previous project, “7”, so I guess you could say that “Once Twice Melody” has been a really expected project.

Being a 30-minute emotional journey into the phases of a relationship, „Laurel Hell” explores feelings such as love, lust, grief and even fear. The album even tackles the self-reflection part of a relationship through subjects as mental health and self-love. Most of the songs, such as “Love Me More”, “Should’ve Been Me” or “That’s Our Lamp” are pretty boppy and even slightly reminiscent of the ‘80s, which makes the album perfect for a party. However, tunes like “Valentine, Texas”, “Everyone” or “I Guess” are quite dreamier and invite you to reflect for a second. This thing makes the album slightly messy, in my honest opinion. My favourite songs of the album are “Valentine, Texas”, “Stay Soft”, “Heat Lightning”, “The Only Heartbreaker”, “Love Me More” and “Should’ve Been Me”.

MARS 2022

This album is an hour and 20 minutes long fairy tale which portrays love in an extremely glamorous way. “Once Twice Melody” explores the idea of idealizing a person through dreamy sounds and lyrics which exude passion and intelligence. Since this album is just as long as a movie, it might be a bit tiring to listen to all of it in one take. However, it is divided into 4 parts (or discs) and I think that those are a really nice, helpful addition. They might help you understand the album on another level as well! My favourite songs of this album are “Once Twice Melody”, “Superstar”, “Pink Funeral”, “Through Me”, “New Romance”, “Over and Over”, “Sunset”, “Masquerade”, “Finale”, “The Bells”, “Hurts to Love” and “Many Nights”.
