MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hello Friends,

If you've read the e-Blasts or your monthly Breeze magazine, you know that the election of your Board members will be here in May. Hopefully many of you attended the Candidate Forum on March 11, 2023 in the Vista Room where you had the opportunity to see and hear the five (5) candidates who are running for election to the Board of Directors.

A great deal of ink and many words have been written to let you know about the election in May 2023. I most sincerely hope that you have made note of the event(s) and I want to reinforce the importance of your involvement.

Without reservation, the most important decision (next to choosing Sun City Aliante for your residence) is voting for your Board of Directors. Simply put, the Board's decisions have great importance on the quality of your life. Every decision the Board makes has an impact on how desirable your life will be. It is of major importance that who you vote for will represent your values on how you want our community to look and act.

Realizing the scope of your decision should cause you to vote for a person who has either demonstrated that they believe as you do concerning our community, or have significantly impressed you that they have the skills and experience to adequately represent you. Please avail yourself of the opportunity to judge firsthand who is best qualified by attending the upcoming forum or attending the monthly board meetings where you will hear how each director feels on any vote that is taken that will affect your standard of living. Do not vote solely for a person who has a nice personality or seems popular with a group, but rather delve deeper into the qualities that I wrote about in last month's Breeze.

Sun City Aliante is a business and not everyone has a clear understanding of how a business needs to be run and the impact the decisions that are made have on the community Not everyone has had the experience necessary to understand the fiscal decisions that they make and not everyone is people oriented. I think you get the idea. Your Board is very powerful and the decisions that are made can have a great effect on your life. Ask probing questions of the candidates running; so that, your decision is an educated one and get involved in the community; so, you can get a better evaluation of the wisdom that each director displays.

Enjoy the springlike weather after a rather cold winter and have a joyous Easter and happy Passover

Respectfully submitted,

BOD EXECUTIVE SESSION NOTICE

Wednesday,

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

April is National Keep America Beautiful Month

April is a month filled with many observations t h a t c e l e b r a t e , b i r t h , r e s u r r e c t i o n , g r o w t h , sacrifice and peace. Celebrations of the Spring Equinox, Palm Sunday, Passover, Ramadan, Good Friday, Easter, and Resurrection Day, capture our attention as we reflect and enjoy our family and friends. April is a time for planting, fertilizing and watching nature produce the most beautiful colors and the return of wildlife to our region.

April is also National “Keep America Beautiful” month. Where better to begin this celebration than right here in our community possibly even in our own backyards. As I walk our amazing community, I am always overjoyed when I see the beautiful landscaping our neighbors have done to keep their property looking beautiful. From the Blue Palo Verde trees to the Olive Trees near the community center, the roses throughout the community and the beautiful Ocotillo, when it is in bloom, let you know it is springtime. Then there are those beautiful garden sculptures that truly attest to the varied personalities that live in our community-gnomes, butterflies, hummingbirds, tortoises, rabbits, dreamcatchers, coyotes, windmills, flamingos and more.

As a stakeholder in our community, it is important that all of us help in keeping our community beautiful. There is no harm in lending a hand to discard litter and debris that you may come across while strolling through the community (bring gloves and hand sanitizer). Pet-parents who walk their dogs should also be diligent about picking up after your pet relieves itself (always carry your doggie bags).

As I embrace this time of year, I reflect on the words of a poem originally written in the 1890s by Katherine Lee Bates.

O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties

Above the fruited plain!

America! America!

God shed His grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea!

If you look around our community you will realize that this stanza of the poem describes Sun City Aliante very well. We have beautiful skies and majestic mountains. If you are up early enough or viewing the sunset looking toward the hills, you may capture the beautiful purple and red reflections from the sun rising and/or setting.

Enjoy all the festivities that this season brings and let us do our part to keep America beautiful as we continue to work together to keep Sun City Aliante a beautiful place to live, work and play.

As of the 5 p.m. deadline on Monday, February 6, 2023, we had five qualified Board candidates who submitted their Candidate Interest Forms and Disclosure Statements and have entered the race for election to the 2023 Board of Directors.

The 2023 candidates are listed below in alphabetical order:

Those residents in attendance had the opportunity to meet the candidates, listen to candidate statements, and evaluate candidate answers to pertinent questions from the moderator and those submitted by residents in advance. We were very fortunate to again have Mr. Steve Vitali as moderator for the Candidate's Forum. A light lunch was served afterward.

Candidate bios and photos were printed in the March Breeze and are also available on a display table near the Front Desk in the Grand View Room of the Community Center.

Hello April!

A personal favorite month of mine – I hope all of you April babies born on this awesome month enjoy the blooming flowers, light-hearted pranks (April Fools' Day), siblings (National Siblings Day, April 10), and your lovable pet (National Pet Day, April 11) April is also National Autism Awareness M o n t h . A g r e a t r e m i n d e r t o p r o m o t e a u t i s m awareness; inclusion, self-determination, kindness, and empathy towards those with ASD.

Springtime is here, and for me, that means spring cleaning. “Out with the old,” as they say. The Aliante Master will have the community garage sale event on April 1-2. Take advantage of this time to rid yourselves of things that you are ready to part with. Another person may gladly pay to take it off your hands. If you are getting rid of unwanted things in your home, it could also be because you are moving out.

If you are selling your home, please let your real estate agents know that “For Sale” or “Open House” signs should only be placed on your property No other signs should be placed anywhere in the community even for directional purposes. Securitas Patrol will remove these signs without any notice. All “For Sale” or “For Rent” signs should have an added sign indicating that we are an AGE 55+ Community Please remember that the entirety of the dwelling unit must be rented, not a section or portions of the unit. All lease agreements must be on a year-to-year basis.

We are sorry to see you go, but wherever you may end up, we hope you are happy According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 616,577 housing units in Nevada Common Interest Communities (CIC). The CIC housing units represent 47% of the State's housing units. I believe this number will continue to grow as more housing developers build communities across the state. By 2040, the community association housing model is expected to become the most common form of housing.

The revised Design Guidelines were mailed last month and are also available online. Please review it at your convenience. One of the key changes in the design guidelines pertain to security gates. If you are planning any projects on the outside of your home, please remember to submit a Home Improvement Application to the Architectural Review Committee before you begin to make any changes. You can find the form on the website under “Documents” and “Commonly Used Forms.” If you have questions, please stop by the administrative office or email, suncityaliante@fsrnevada.us.

With the warmer weather coming, you may be ready to head out on vacation. Do you own a Recreational Vehicle (RV)? RVing is great fun. Please remember there are restrictions as to where and how long you can park your RV According to the North Las Vegas City Council, RV parking on residential neighborhoods is limited to 48 hours. RV Parking is available to residents only in the Community Center Parking Lot on a limited basis. Resident parking is not to exceed four times per year for 48 hours each time in a designated area only The owner's identification and proof of insurance will be checked. All policies are subject to change as deemed necessary

Hello Sun City Residents,

Happy April! Spring has sprung, and I hope you all found yourselves lucky in the month of March, and I wish you and your family all a safe and happy Easter and Passover I can't believe we are almost halfway through the year. I am excited to share with you all of the exciting things going on in our City of North Las Vegas and look forward to what's to come.

First, I want to share that the City of North Las Vegas Library District will extend their hours starting this month! Starting Monday, April 3, the Aliante and Alexander Libraries will extend their hours of operation on Wednesdays and Thursdays to 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. Please take advantage of this extension and all of the things our libraries have to offer

Secondly, I want to announce that the City of North Las Vegas will host a Veterans Job Fair on April 19 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Veterans & Community Resource Center located at 3090 E. Centennial Pkwy., N Las Vegas, NV 89086. If you or someone you know is a veteran looking for work opportunities, please share this information and stop by our job fair

Last month, I had the opportunity to join the City of North Las Vegas' Fire Department for their quarterly symposium to educate the Del Webb community on the importance of safety, healthcare, and emergency preparedness. For m o r e i n f o r m a t i o n , p l e a s e v i s i t https://www.facebook.com/CityofNorthLasV egas and view the video we shared!

Another exciting event I got to get out and participate in was Nevada Reading Week! For more than 30 years, Nevada Reading Week has been celebrated across the Silver State in March to promote a life-long love of reading. I was thrilled to be able to participate and read to first through third-grade students at Jesse D. Scott and Frederick Watson Elementary Schools. Reading is so important to our students, and I am grateful to our educators for teaching this important skill each and every day

Finally, I want to applaud not only the staff and volunteers from the City of North Las Vegas but everyone else who helped to put on our State of the City address 2023! This address is a once a year opportunity that allows our City to connect with the public directly and share all the wonderful things we have done, plan to do, and aim to achieve. I am so proud of what we have accomplished and was honored to be a part of the address again this year

As I say every time, remember to keep your dogs and pets safe during this cold winter season and follow our Ordinance No. 3053, which requires animals to be properly sheltered and cared for while being kept outdoors.

P.S. I encourage everyone to review the U.S. Postal Service's tips on mail safety and remind you if you see a mail thief at work, or if you believe your mail was stolen, call police immediately, then call Postal Inspectors at 877-876-2455.

Yours in service,

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MONTHLY BULLETIN:

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH

April is the month that some of us start thinking of a summer trip. Some may go for a week and others may go for the whole summer. Whichever the case, the first thing you should do is get to know your Neighborhood Watch Block Captain. If you're not sure if you have one, call Neighborhood Watch Coordinator Jim Blossey and ask if you have one assigned to your home. If there isn't one on your block, talk with your neighbors and see if they wouldn't mind watching over your home while you're gone.

The February Neighborhood Watch meeting was a potluck block party for the Block Captains and their guests. The reason for the block party was to get acquainted with fellow Block Captains. It was a fun evening for all. Before the pandemic we used to have them around the community.

Some of our Block Captains are planning to have a block party again in the coming months. If you don't have a Block Captain, consider having a block party yourself and meet your neighbors.

Our next monthly Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held on April 20 at 4 p.m. in the Social Hall in the Community Center. All residents are welcome.

For information regarding the Sun City Aliante Neighborhood Watch program, contact our coordinator, Jim Blossey, at jimandpatb@embarqmail.com or 775-530-5119.

Be safe. If you see something, say something! Your Neighborhood Watch Block Captains

WHY EVERY SENIOR NEEDS A LONG -TERM HEALTH CARE PLAN

Thursday, April 13, 10 a.m.

Tom Hegan, the author of "Don't Worry, Retire Happy!" says, “You must have a plan for Long-Term Care." It is one of the greatest risks seniors face during their retirement years.

He will share his first-hand experience of the financial and health risks of not having a plan. He will also discuss the many options currently available for access to the extended care you desire and at prices you can afford.

Do not limit your options by not having a plan. The risk for women is even higher at 58 percent. The current cost for LTC in Las Vegas is between $3,800 to $11,165 a month. It you fail to plan; you plan to fail.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS AND CURES FOR CATARACTS?

Monday, April 17, 11 a.m.

Join Dr Frank Lee, an ophthalmologist with Nevada Eye Physicians, on April 17 and learn about the symptoms and treatments for Cataracts, one of the leading causes of visual decline in people above the age 50.

Human eyes have a natural lens inside the eye that helps focus and see things. Due to the natural aging process, the natural lens can become cloudy and interfere with vision.

If you have difficulty with activities, such as night driving, watching TV, reading, computer work etc., you should have your eyes checked.

Cataract surgery is the best cure for this condition. It is one of the most simple and successful procedures performed in medicine today. After surgery, patients usually return to regular activities within 24-48 hours.

FORGET-ME -KNOTS

An early member of Forget-Me-Knots, Holly Claghorn and her husband, Charlie, moved to our community from Savanah, Ga. in 2003. She is advanced in many skills, including cross stitch, embroidery, and quilting. Holly's greatest passion is crocheting. She shares her expertise through teaching others.

The Forget-Me-Knots group was established in 2004 and have created countless hats, scarves, lap blankets, sweaters, and baby sweaters/hats for donation to VA Veterans, hospitals, neo-natal units, USA Help, Fisher House and Foster Children of Clark County.

Aliante Classy Chefs held last month's meeting on Tuesday, March 7. They celebrated a St. Patrick's Day theme with Nancy Hoiberg in charge of the very Irish decorations. Sylvia Ross brought corned beef & cabbage, Kathy Terry made a poked cake, Bill James brought green drinks and Diane James did a Green Jell-O salad. TECHNOLOGY CLUB

On April 6 at 6:30 p.m., the Technology Club meets to discuss important tips for using the iPhone and Android phones. They will review some top iPhone tips (and analogous Android functions) mentioned in the Wall Street Journal including:

• Emergency contacts (who to call in an emergency)

• Passcodes (protecting how to open your phone)

• Protecting the phone (device tracking, cookie removal, etc.)

• Legacy contact (how to access the phone after the owner passes)

• Covid vaccination information (using the Apple Wallet).

These topics are important for community members. Don't miss this very informative meeting!

VETERAN'S CLUB

Hello Everyone,

Only a quarter of the year has gone by and we have experienced sunshine, rain, wind and snow! WOW, snow! But Spring is around the corner and we are looking ahead to our upcoming events.

First, let's look back to our Pancake Breakfast. What a wonderful time! Besides visiting with friends and eating a great breakfast, we enjoyed the wonderful company of the Centennial High School Navy ROTC. We all wish them success in their future careers. The Veterans Club and the Veterans Auxiliary are most appreciative of those attending for their generosity toward helping Veterans at HELP USA. Thank you to all who helped to make for a fun morning.

Thank you to the Veterans, Scouts and community members who made the Flag Retirement Ceremony such a wonderful and moving experience. An event such as the Flag Retirement Ceremony, reminds us of the great honor it is to be a citizen of the United States of America.

A very exciting and needed event will be happening on Wednesday, April 5. A Veterans Benefits Informational Luncheon will be held in the Vista Room from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. With all the new changes, most of us are not aware of what is out there in reference to Veterans Benefits for those military personnel living and deceased. Come and enjoy lunch on us and learn what is available for qualifying veterans.

Honors and Celebrations this month:

• Gold Star Spouses Day – April 5

• National Former POW Recognition Day – April 9

• Air Force Reserve Birthday – April 15

• Army Reserve Birthday – April 23

• National Military Brats Day – April 30 - This is part of April's “Month of the Military Child”

If you are interested in purchasing a brick for a loved one to be placed in the Veterans Monument or donating to the Adopt-A-Flag Program, contact Sy Nielson at 702-234-9183.

Please mark Tuesday, April 18, on your calendar and join us for our next meeting in the Vista Room at 6 p.m. Our March meeting guest speaker, Brenda Morris, Director of the SE Nevada Honor Flight, kindly agreed to reschedule her presentation to April 18. Residents Ray Wong and Ken Knudson will join her to share their Honor Flight experience.

VETERAN'S AUXILIARY

The Veterans Auxiliary met Tuesday, February 21 in the Vista Room. Among t h e i r d i s c u s s i o n s w e r e t h e s u c c e s s f u l P a n c a k e B r e a k f a s t a n d t h e overwhelming response to the Auxiliary's Donation Drive for Help USA.

Gerson Pedrozo, the Director of Social Services at Help USA, was in attendance and was so deeply appreciative of the generosity of the residents of Sun City Aliante. Paper products and breakfast items were donated to the homeless veterans housed at the Help USA facilities, and they wish to pass along their sincere gratitude. The Auxiliary could not be prouder of the Sun City Aliante community!

Additional business from this meeting included reviewing an Operating Principles guide for Auxiliary members and establishing a mentorship program for new members. A lap blanket workshop that took place after the March meeting. The Auxiliary will continue working on these blankets to have them ready for delivery in December for patients at the VA hospital.

The “Paint with Vivian” step-by-step paint party fundraiser was held on the evening of March 1 in the Vista Room. The participants all enjoyed socializing while painting a hot air balloon sunset picture. They all took home their paintings along with party gifts! Thank you to all who came!

The Veterans Auxiliary regular meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m. in the Vista Room. The April meeting will be held Tuesday, April 18. They welcome all who are interested in helping support our veterans and active military For further information, please email Julie Tomlin at j t o m l i n 5 5 @ m s n . c o m o r p h o n e : 2 0 8 - 3 2 0 - 8 115 o r H j o r d y Wa g n e r a t hwizwag@gmail.com phone: 715-529-9728.
