VETERAN'S CLUB

Hello Everyone,

Only a quarter of the year has gone by and we have experienced sunshine, rain, wind and snow! WOW, snow! But Spring is around the corner and we are looking ahead to our upcoming events.

First, let's look back to our Pancake Breakfast. What a wonderful time! Besides visiting with friends and eating a great breakfast, we enjoyed the wonderful company of the Centennial High School Navy ROTC. We all wish them success in their future careers. The Veterans Club and the Veterans Auxiliary are most appreciative of those attending for their generosity toward helping Veterans at HELP USA. Thank you to all who helped to make for a fun morning.

Thank you to the Veterans, Scouts and community members who made the Flag Retirement Ceremony such a wonderful and moving experience. An event such as the Flag Retirement Ceremony, reminds us of the great honor it is to be a citizen of the United States of America.

A very exciting and needed event will be happening on Wednesday, April 5. A Veterans Benefits Informational Luncheon will be held in the Vista Room from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. With all the new changes, most of us are not aware of what is out there in reference to Veterans Benefits for those military personnel living and deceased. Come and enjoy lunch on us and learn what is available for qualifying veterans.

Honors and Celebrations this month:

• Gold Star Spouses Day – April 5

• National Former POW Recognition Day – April 9

• Air Force Reserve Birthday – April 15

• Army Reserve Birthday – April 23

• National Military Brats Day – April 30 - This is part of April's “Month of the Military Child”

If you are interested in purchasing a brick for a loved one to be placed in the Veterans Monument or donating to the Adopt-A-Flag Program, contact Sy Nielson at 702-234-9183.

Please mark Tuesday, April 18, on your calendar and join us for our next meeting in the Vista Room at 6 p.m. Our March meeting guest speaker, Brenda Morris, Director of the SE Nevada Honor Flight, kindly agreed to reschedule her presentation to April 18. Residents Ray Wong and Ken Knudson will join her to share their Honor Flight experience.

VETERAN'S AUXILIARY

The Veterans Auxiliary met Tuesday, February 21 in the Vista Room. Among t h e i r d i s c u s s i o n s w e r e t h e s u c c e s s f u l P a n c a k e B r e a k f a s t a n d t h e overwhelming response to the Auxiliary's Donation Drive for Help USA.

Gerson Pedrozo, the Director of Social Services at Help USA, was in attendance and was so deeply appreciative of the generosity of the residents of Sun City Aliante. Paper products and breakfast items were donated to the homeless veterans housed at the Help USA facilities, and they wish to pass along their sincere gratitude. The Auxiliary could not be prouder of the Sun City Aliante community!

Additional business from this meeting included reviewing an Operating Principles guide for Auxiliary members and establishing a mentorship program for new members. A lap blanket workshop that took place after the March meeting. The Auxiliary will continue working on these blankets to have them ready for delivery in December for patients at the VA hospital.

The “Paint with Vivian” step-by-step paint party fundraiser was held on the evening of March 1 in the Vista Room. The participants all enjoyed socializing while painting a hot air balloon sunset picture. They all took home their paintings along with party gifts! Thank you to all who came!

The Veterans Auxiliary regular meetings are held the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m. in the Vista Room. The April meeting will be held Tuesday, April 18. They welcome all who are interested in helping support our veterans and active military For further information, please email Julie Tomlin at j t o m l i n 5 5 @ m s n . c o m o r p h o n e : 2 0 8 - 3 2 0 - 8 115 o r H j o r d y Wa g n e r a t hwizwag@gmail.com phone: 715-529-9728.
