The year is drawing to a close, a year marked by major events, including all the recent developments, which have kept us constantly on our toes and have once again forced us to adapt our plans to this changing environment. We are particularly confdent about the future precisely because this year we have once again shown a great ability to adapt, characterised by the versatility and composure of the entire company. This has enabled us to achieve remarkable results, not only backed up by the numbers, but also by a great deal of positive feedback from the market.
We have been further encouraged by having the chance to once again experience real, positive and inspiring contact with our community and the new product innovations we will be presenting in 2023.
This will be the year of X-One: a new turning point for Sanremo, exactly ten years after the momentous breakthrough of Opera that unleashed an energy capable of revolutionising our company. This grinder will be a new cornerstone on which to build further projects, a milestone that will mark a new path in our way of doing business. Sanremo took on a completely new challenge, accepting all the implications and facing every difculty with perseverance. As is often the case, the greater the obstacles to overcome, the greater the satisfaction when, having arrived at the end of the path, one looks back. The satisfaction is having created a top-of-the-range product with unique features and such a strong technological content that it can create a market segment.

Standing out from among our corporate mission values is “Charting new paths”. It is a source of pride to be able to share our commitment to this value with the entire R&D team, the technical department, the SWAT and all the professionals who have contributed. We achieved something that more renowned companies in the industry had not even imagined.
It was a long and tortuous path, through trial and error, which took time, resources, energy, imagination, commitment... We succeeded thanks to the courage to dare, believing in ourselves right to the end, often going back to the drawing board, but never giving up.
It was an 8,000 metre mountain and we climbed it.
To create X-One, we pushed the company beyond its limits. Now we hand over the baton to our partners: it is their mission to take this concept to market.
But Sanremo will not stop there: it is imprinted in its DNA that once one challenge is overcome, the next is tackled immediately. Once again we are changing the playing feld and doing something no one has ever done before: enhancing the entry level segment, while also introducing Sanremo style and quality.
At HOST2023 we will present a new modular single-boiler coffee machine platform. It is a step forward towards responding to a clear market need that demands, even in the entry level segment, product versatility and high performance at an optimum price/quality ratio.
During the course of the year, we repeatedly had to adjust our list prices upwards due to a number of external factors, in particular increases in the cost of raw materials and energy. Nevertheless, 2022 was a very good year. Numbers that were possible because of the trust and support of our distributors.
My frst thanks go to you our partner, you understood, accepted and managed a complex situation, while enthusiastically supporting the company and achieving incredible results.
It is this enthusiasm that is the real strength of the company, even in the face of difculties we are persevering and tenacious. A heartfelt thank you is also extended to all our internal and external collaborators. To the marketing team, which continues to imagine, elaborate and deliver unique ideas, contributing to the strengthening of our brand awareness. To the purchasing and back ofce departments, which faced an absolutely unimaginable year due to the difculty of fnding materials and the continuous updating of prices. To the production department, which racked up record after record in terms of units produced.
Thanks, fnally, to all the professionals who rely on the machines and people from Sanremo to express their style, their vision, their essence.
I wish everyone a Happy New Year, may everyone fnd their own direction for true self-fulflment, trusting that, with our commitment and a positive attitude, we will be able to play our part in building a better and, above all, more peaceful world.
Carlo de SordiX-One is the pioneer of a new way of thinking about coffee grinding. To make this revolutionary project a reality, engineers from the Sanremo R&D department worked hand in hand with Professor Chahan Yeretzian and Samo Smrke from the “Coffee Excellence Center” at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW).
Based on the latest research in the feld, this extended multidisciplinary team focused on how to ensure coffee freshness, minimal retention and high grinding accuracy over time and under stressful conditions.
In order to convey to our partners and coffee lovers alike the innovative scope and all the passion we have dedicated to this project, we have also involved several partners from a creative point of view.
We set our sights high with the help of Benjamin Lewis of Sanremo UK, who provides a comprehensive round-up of all the functions in eight videos, features and tips to push the X-One to its limits, detailing everything this grinder can bring to the work of bartenders and roasters.
“The set preparation for these videos was designed to enhance the tones of wood and metal and create a soft light play”, says the agency “The Studio”, which took care of the set-up and flming. - Together they enhance the different steps towards discovering all the secrets of the X-One, an object of design and at the same time a highly reliable high-tech tool.
The formula proved to be successful, as did the team and we look forward to working on new chapters together”.

PEEKING BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE VIDEO TUTORIALS MADE FOR YOU
Compact dimensions, high performance and a maximum degree of control over the coffee extraction parameters make YOU the ideal partner to meet very different requirements and working styles.
A range of potential to be explored, which you can also discover remotely. 8 new technical videos are available on the Sanremo YouTube channel, revealing all the reasons why you will fall in love with YOU and, if you have already fallen in love with it, how to make the most of all its features.
Delving into the features and unique aspects of YOU, and explaining how to handle any situation even under pressure, is Andrea Zamprogno, technical project manager at Sanremo.
“If you can dream it, you can do it” is the message the company wanted to convey to the market with the launch of YOU.
To reiterate this invitation to experiment, when recording these videos we wanted not only to pass on useful information, but also to inspire and enthuse the community of coffee lovers, showing them what is possible with this tool at their command.
To make Sanremo’s distinctive style recognisable, designing the right set was extremely important.
With the team from the agency “The Studio” we therefore recreated an industrial-style setting, in which the strength of the metal sheet walls and the warmth of the vintage wooden table set off the signature Sanremo black.

The creation of the X-One launch video became an opportunity to analyse the new grinder in every detail and reveal its mechanisms.
Furthermore, together with Luigi Dalla Riva, motion graphic designer and owner of the Quasimontacarlo studio, we discovered that the creative process that goes into his videos has several points of contact similar to the thought process behind the creation of our iconic products. Analysis, study, idea gathering, preparation, design, evaluation... and sometimes starting again from scratch. With the aim of creating an “object” with its own character and style capable of being remembered.
What does coffee mean to you?
It’s a reset button. There are confusing moments when I need to simplify things and taking a coffee break for me is pure energy.
What is the added value that video gives to communication?
Video as I understand it is authenticity, it gives companies the opportunity to truthfully explain the features of a product or the concepts of a new business approach.
My aim is to make processes and technical features aesthetically appealing that might otherwise be a little cold or unmemorable.
Can you describe the creative process behind your videos?
There is always an initial process that I might call “creative chaos”: studies and ideas, even very heterogeneous ones, from which I try to bring out the character of the video.
I then go on to choose the most effective solutions... and this is where sometimes much of the work done previously is discarded.
Having a background as a musician, it is logical for me to start with the sound, to exploit its great evocative power.
During the visits I made to the company, I was able to get to know all the people in the R&D department and appreciate their passion and technical skills. I was surprised by the amount of “advanced technology” hidden inside the liveries of the Sanremo machines. What struck me in particular was the attention to all those aspects that seem peculiar, but which will then allow coffee specialists to use this grinder as a precision machine. Together with the DOC team, I therefore tried to make the meticulous engineering contained in the X-One a central focus.
Sanremo’s experience as Qualifed Sponsor of the “World of Coffee” circuit ended with a great celebration.
From 23 to 25 June 2022, Milan hosted the world editions of the Latte Art and Coffee in Good Spirits championships
The ofcial machine was, for the third and (for now) last time, the Sanremo Café Racer customised in two versions, pink and blue: the ofcial colours of the two competitions.
The Italian edition of WOC ended Sanremo’s three-year sponsorship of the event (extended due to a one-year stop): a journey in which we collected new experiences and encounters, valuable feedback and memories.
A journey that has enriched us professionally but above all personally. Sharing and collaborating with the organisers, the competitors and all the people who have contributed to creating this great event. It has been an honour and a pleasure to work together!
It is no coincidence that the Sanremo stand at WOC was set up to be an open space for experimentation, discussion and training. Bringing our booth alive and full of positive energy is a Café Racer and a YOU always available on the counter and, above all, the involvement of our visitors.
As in Belo Horizonte and Berlin, the competitive tension and energy of the aspiring WLAC and WCIGS champions found resonance in our commitment to support them as best we could.
The entire SWAT team and the crew from Sanremo gave their all on the stage, preparing the positions for each competitor during the contests. Even during the preparation days, our technicians and experts supported all the competing baristas, accompanying them on both a technological and personal level
Watching the dedication of the competitors in the pre-practice moments in our showroom made us feel part of a special reality, which we helped to create. This makes us so proud of the work done so far.
Thank you to all the people who, since 2018 (the year of our frst experience as sponsors), have walked a part of the way with us, especially our team: indispensable support at every step of this adventure.
The New York Coffee Festival ignited the New York community of coffee lovers after a two-year hiatus, and did so in style.
Thousands of people focked to the three-day coffee event to discover the latest developments in the sector, including machines, tools and local roasters.
We were also there to meet the entire community and naturally, not forgetting to give those present a nice cup of coffee. The two stars of the stand, two black YOUs, have never ceased to impress with their continuous production of coffee with incredible aromas. The ModCup baristas (@modcupcoffee) accompanied us over the full three days and after using the YOU during the fair gave us their opinion:
“This machine has analogue capabilities but all the technological advances of a Bluetooth device. Manual extractions are possible, but you can also programme extraction, temperature, volume. So there is the best of both worlds in a truly user-friendly way. If you are familiar with the espresso parameters you can really do whatever you want with this machine, any extraction and any type of coffee.”
In addition to our booth, the YOUs also found space in the Roaster Village where they gave roasters the opportunity to let the participants try their coffee. We interviewed two of them, here is what they told us:
“Today I had the privilege of using a YOU. One of the things that really impressed me about this machine is how easy it is to use. It is really user friendly. It has some very interesting features to play with, but the most important thing is that it is also consumer-friendly. Especially as instructors, we not only teach coffee professionals, but also consumers. So we are always looking for tools that we can introduce to them specifcally. So it’s great, I like it.”
“We have obviously worked on many different machines in the past, all with different features and various consumer benefts. But I really loved this machine. It is easy to use and difcult to make mistakes. Access to the water tank is very easy and this is obviously wonderful. We managed to get to 6 bars during the extraction for most of the coffees this weekend. The display is great for keeping track of the situation, how much water is being used and the fow rate. For me personally, it is important to see how the coffee is extracted, so I loved this feature. Really consistent.”
An experience that once again has allowed us to feel the extent of the American market’s involvement in our community and all the qualities of our YOU.
See you soon New York!
After a forced three-year hiatus, the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (Australia’s only trade show entirely dedicated to coffee) is fnally back, in September 2022, bigger and more exciting than ever.
Resuming its usual venue at the Exhibition Centre in the state capital of Victoria, the event also hosted the World Barista Championships and the World Brewers Cup
For the Australian coffee industry, MICE was the most important event since the pandemic and therefore the frst major
opportunity to bring together again not only the national community, but also coffee professionals and enthusiasts from around the world.
Expectations and enthusiasm for this event were therefore at an all-time high. And Sanremo Australia rode the wave of excitement to present the new products to the market and to reconnect with coffee lovers, together with Danilo Llopis and Andrea Zamprogno of Sanremo Italy. Nothing beats face-to-face interactions with old and new friends from all over the world!
Technology and innovation are key elements for Sanremo, which is why it was important to set up our HUB on the booth. A cosy and relaxing space where visitors could discover the company’s latest innovations together and be inspired by infuential fgures from our community.
Latte art sessions with reigning Australian champion Amy Zhang, the opportunity to extract coffee coming directly from Japan and specialty coffee cupping with a range of premium beans from Terroir Laboratory. The Sanremo booth was a source of enticing experiences for all tastes.
Special guests also included Samo Smrke and Chahan Yeretzian from the Coffee Excellence Centre at the University of Zurich, who added academic value to the launch of the X-One grinder. Also rounding off MICE 2022 in style was the victory of Anthony Douglas, of Axil Coffee Roasters in Melbourne, in the Barista Championship!
“If we had to describe the feelings we sensed throughout the week when meeting visitors and guests at the booth, we would just use the words ‘family’ and ‘innovation’. It is no coincidence that these are values at the heart of the Sanremo brand”, was the satisfed comment of Sabrina and Alex from the Australian team.
IF YOU CAN DREAM IT YOU CAN DO IT TEMPERATURE
A new value proposition, supported by an original format aimed at a customer curious about new gastronomic experiences, oriented towards human (not just virtual) relationships, with a focus on travelling and experimenting.
Breakfast is catered by the well-known Milanese culinary bakery Clèa. At lunchtime, the cooking is in the hands of Michelin-starred chef Silvio Salmoiraghi. “We wanted to introduce an identifable offer. – explains Alberto – Chef Salmoiraghi proposed his concept of Italian-style kaiseki The dishes are interchangeable so that those who dine with us can always try different things”.
The love of coffee as a social aggregator and a cue to try new experiences. This is the intuition from which “The Pure Café” concept was designed: a true meeting point for coffee lovers, where they can meet other enthusiasts, try new varieties or experience coffee from unexpected perspectives.
It was conceived by manager Alberto Agostinacchio and Italian brewing champion Giacomo Vannelli, who met professionally in Sanremo and, together, took a new gamble: to create a place where tasting speciality coffee becomes an opportunity to meet and form a real community.
“In Italy, specialty coffee is still little known. – explains Alberto – The traditional Italian espresso is the moment for a break and is associated with a burst of energy. It is therefore normally linked to an experience that does not involve tasting. This is how ‘The Pure Café’ proposal was born. A concept that divulges the favours and aromas of speciality coffees, but also and above all the ‘specialty’ spirit of sharing and community”.
Spreading the philosophy of speciality coffee are the Pure baristas, who explain to coffee lovers and novices alike the origins, processing techniques, aromas and favours that distinguish the different coffee varieties. And for the evening aperitif they offer coffee-based cocktails (and other types), creating new creative tasting experiences.
There is also a structured offer of events: the so-called “pure moments”, ranging from music, tastings with food pairing design and stand-up comedy, designed to encourage sharing and interaction between patrons.
A shocking pink Café Racer contrasts aesthetically with the mauve, white, green and wood furnishings and walls. A design detail that underlines the stress on quality and originality of the whole project.
An explosive mix of digital innovation and craftsmanship. Sanremo Australia and Sanremo Saudi Arabia have decided to join forces and share technologies, resources, knowledge, strengths and points of view to create one extended team to serve the global Sanremo community.
Pioneers in different aspects, Sanremo Saudi Arabia in terms of the automation of its customer service and Sanremo Australia because of its unique ability to customise coffee machines. The two subsidiaries are working together to take their partnership to a new level of integration.
The aim is, in true Sanremo style, to provide customers and consumers in both countries with an even more advanced coffee experience in all respects.
Born out of an ambition for continuous improvement and a love of teamwork, this international collaboration also consolidates operating values that are in Sanremo’s DNA. Building strong bonds between different countries, inspiring new ideas and creating a true global family.
The Sanremo brand has always been about “family”. It has always been committed to connecting people from different countries, cultures and ethnicities by bringing new ideas and spreading the coffee culture
This spirit is also alive within the Australian Sanremo family, which recognises itself in the core values that defne what it means to “be Sanremo”. Regularly sharing and discussing the main international trends in the coffee industry is the key to maintaining a global and local view of our work.
And the best way to share is to do it in person.
“That is why the Sanremo Australia team embarked on a mission, meeting their colleagues at the Treviso headquarters in November, which was not just a visit, but a moment of shared growth”.
The aim was to focus on a global communication strategy to accompany and support the company’s exponential growth at international level and to capitalise on its remarkable technological acceleration.
“There is no better feeling than to see your passion matched with the same intensity and enthusiasm by others”. – Sofa and Alex Calabrisello, marketing coordinator and general manager of Sanremo Australia, commented before departing, “For us, the meeting with the parent company was an invaluable experience, it allowed us to reconnect with the team and forge even stronger relationships. Let us continue to grow together, sharing stories, innovations and ideas for the future”.
“ANTIPODES”, BUT PROFOUNDLY SIMILAR FROM AUSTRALIA TO ITALY, ONE BIG FAMILY ITALY / AUSTRALIA
Where there is passion, there is Sanremo. Where there is a challenge, there is Sanremo. Together with its Australian partners, Sanremo took part in the incredible organisational machine that makes the “Lexus Melbourne Cup Carnival” an unforgettable event.
The Lexus Melbourne Cup Carnival is a legendary fourday horse racing event that is described by Australians as “the race that stops a nation”. With more than 700 million spectators from all over the world, this event has international resonance not only for horse racing enthusiasts. All thanks to the organisers’ ability to create
a true spectacle each year that combines fashion, entertainment and hospitality, making it the most important social event on the continent.
This year, St Remio, a leading brand in sustainable coffee, made its debut as one of the event’s partners, engaging Sanremo Australia to create an installation of coffee stations along the race route, with a mix of ZOE Competition and F18SB machines
The jewel in the crown of the installation is the custommade combination for the exclusive LANDMARK marquee by Lexus Australia, consisting of a Café Racer customised
with 24-carat gold detailing and a customised black and white X-One grinder
In honour of the Melbourne Cup, St Remio created a dedicated Australian blend, which it brought to the track along with its distinctive “St Francis” blend. During the 4 intense days of the event, the baristas were able to extract the full potential and enhance the aromas of the two St Remio blends thanks to perfectly calibrated settings on both machines and grinders, thus enabling race guests to enjoy a “perfect coffee experience”
The Melbourne experience was exciting, both in terms of the pride of working with brands that have deep ethical values such as those held by St Remio and the opportunity to take part in such an exciting and powerfully unifying celebration like the Lexus Melbourne Cup Carnival.
The right placement for CUBE?
Wherever there is a sense of taste and the pleasure of being together! Last June, Sanremo Australia organised an exclusive happening together with the famous “Tokyo Lamington” bakery in Sydney
An evening of tastings and music, with live DJ sets and Espresso Martinis blended with coffee extracted from the CUBE.
Exclusively for the occasion, the Tokyo Lamington bakers had made the popular Australian Lamington desserts in the same colours that are available for the CUBE.
A relaxed atmosphere to let people discover the versatility of this model!
VIETNAM
More than 30 participants representing 6 different countries gathered at the Sanremo showroom in Ha Noi to participate in the frst “Sanremo Southeast Asia Professional Training Program” from 16 to 18 November 2022.
A continental debut for a real intensive training course: 3 days of total immersion in the world of Sanremo led by area manager Massimo Martellato and technical manager Andrea Zamprogno, who illustrated the history, values and evolution of the brand, provided information and details on the technical features of the machines, and ofcially presented the two great new products YOU and X-One.
The participants of the “Sanremo Southeast Asia Professional Training Program”, who arrived for the occasion from Indonesia Malaysia the Philippines Singapore Thailand and Vietnam, were not mere spectators, but were personally involved in sharing experiences and best practices with their colleagues.
Moreover, in the breaks between sessions, all those present (Italian delegates leading the way) challenged each other in games of skill and mini latte art battles.
In the last training session, a team of technicians from different countries had the opportunity to closely

analyse the mechanisms and components of the YOU coffee machine and the X-One coffee grinder, helping all participants to fully understand the peculiarities and potential of these two products.
Sanremo’s technical quality and innovation played a leading role, of course, but always within a context of exchange, transparency, dialogue and shared passions
The joyful and collaborative participation that warmed the atmosphere of the three-day training event confrms the success of this frst event, thanks to Sanremo Vietnam’s organisation and its dedication to spreading the spirit of the #WeAreSanremo community.
They are the link between the company and the territory, explorers of new opportunities, ambassadors of brand values and spokespersons for customer needs.
They are none other than our sales managers, Nicholas Benaglia, Mirco Chiribiri and Massimo Mario Martellato. Three international voices, three points of view on the history and future of Sanremo.
How has Sanremo evolved over time?
Responding is Mirco Chiribiri, the most experienced of the trio and the one dedicated to the Italian market: “Over the years I have seen the customers’ approach to us change a lot, and in a positive way. The impetus given to brand awareness in the world has been crucial in this regard, because the Italian coffee sector pays close attention to what is happening abroad, especially with regard to specialty coffee”.
“The growth of international reputation has led to a global growth of the company”, adds Mirco, “in the wake of the
approach given by Carlo de Sordi, who was able to involve his collaborators, transmit passion and create a team. In the future, it will be important to maintain general involvement, continuing to make everyone feel united”.
“When I arrived at Sanremo, with experience working at other well-established companies in the coffee sector, I found a very familiar world. – confrms Massimo Martellato –
Since then, six years have passed and the company has changed a lot and very quickly. The process of change was dictated by the need to respond quickly to market demands and brought radical changes in all areas of the company, from design to production, R&D to sales. The evolution is not yet over, but we are heading in the right direction: it is bearing fruit, confrming that the intuition and strong vision that differentiate Sanremo are winning attributes. Now we are also ready to train new recruits to continue to grow together and make the coffee sector grow.
This overall growth has also been facilitated by Sanremo’s desire and ability to relate, which is based on moments of meeting and confrontation, as Nicholas Benaglia recounts: “For us, trade fairs and events are of paramount importance. Until a decade ago, trade fairs were seen as a simple product presentation... but in recent years, and especially in this last period, our way of experiencing events has been transformed.
The continuous and intense dialogue with all players in the industry (baristas, technicians, coffee roasters and coffee lovers) has made it possible to come up with the ideas on which Sanremo is also working for the years to come”.
“It is these meetings that have put us in touch with so many people who, like us, believe in and want a quality future for the world of coffee. These people are not just customers”, Nicholas clarifes, “but a community that is growing more and more and that allows us to write the pages of our future”
Beauty and style never stop being fascinating. Although untranslatable into words, they are evident to our eyes: we want to discover what is hidden behind lines, colours and shapes. Beautiful objects have a soul, which stems from the efforts made to realise them, from the shared desire to give shape to ideas, from the passionate and meticulous search for detail. That is why those objects become desirable.
Like the Sanremo machines, which bring character to the daily life of coffee lovers and which are also a source of knowledge, culture and progress.
