SINGLE BOILER GAME CHANGER
EDITORIAL
I was nearly 30 years old when my father Federico and I founded Sanremo Coffee Machines. I remember dreaming about what my ideal company would be like. Looking back on it today, my aspirations were really ambitious. Fortunately, they had already anticipated the immense energy required to tackle the challenges the future has in store for us.
At that time, a clear corporate vision, the values we identify with and the goals we set ourselves have matured. Our main ambition was to create products that would become coveted items for all coffee lovers. Each product had to reflect Sanremo's passion, research and accuracy, regardless of the customer for whom it was intended. In addition to the products, we also needed to define a distinctive style with which our customers could identify
We have been working hard and today the Sanremo style has become iconic, characterised by a sense of belonging. By style I don’t just mean aesthetics but all the values that drive our day-to-day activities, such as quality, technological innovation, beauty... but also tenacity, courage, sharing. Effort and success. Energy. We always put as much positive energy as possible into our work so that it resonates in the lives of those who choose our machines.
The Opera in 2013 and Café Racer in 2015 have contributed to the significant growth experienced by the brand, as a result of the technological and design innovation they bring to the market. To the surprise of our prestigious competitors, we have established ourselves in the multiple-boiler sector precisely because of our distinctive style. And I confess that it was a source of tremendous satisfaction for the company.
But my sights were set on a new horizon.
The pleasure of working with a Sanremo machine shouldn't be reserved only for "experts" but should be accessible to anyone who resonates with our style.
This was the inspiration behind the D8: one of the best products we have ever made. The D8 is a technologically advanced, efficient and environmentally friendly machine that can be configured to the individual customer's needs and expanded over time, thanks to its modular design.
An affordable and surprising single-boiler, simple and stylish, high-performance and user-friendly. A model without comparison in the market.
All of this is the result of a transformation in our design approach, which today revolves around the platform concept. This involves achieving maximum optimisation of production processes and investments, reduced consumption, and greater sustainability, to the benefit of both ourselves and our customers.
This was made possible thanks to the hard work of the project team, who always performed with dedication, tenacity and positivity, and to whom I am extremely grateful.
Such is the enthusiasm for the D8 that we decided to promote it with an international launch tour in which I will participate together with the technical team. A unique opportunity not only for the presentation of this new machine, but also to allow more personal contact with the distributors, technicians, employees and all the operators who form a part of our team.
We are ibexes, and this is our territory. The summit embodies our approach, our expertise, and our very nature.

Last November, Sanremo Saudi took part in the prestigious “Saudi Horeca” event for the first time, held at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Centre in the Saudi capital. A leading event for the hospitality and catering sector in the Gulf region.
•••
52,000 visitors from 48 countries and 350 exhibitors participated in the 12th edition of Saudi Arabia's largest food, beverage, and hospitality fair

SIGEP 2024 records a great success in attendance, with a notable influx from Asia
“Finally the interest and large pre-Covid numbers have returned at SIGEP”, commented Daniele Bosio, Sanremo's area manager for Italy. “We saw a significant turnout of national and international visitors and I also noticed a lot of end consumers interested in the world of coffee. It is a sign of the growing attention to our industry by the general public”.
The central themes of the 2024 edition of the Rimini Trade Fair were sustainability and innovation. But that’s not all: Claudio Mazzarella, after-sales manager for Sanremo Italy, emphasises the increasing need of customers for quality and repeatability of the in-cup result. “A requirement not only for coffee but also for the handling of milk. This demonstrates the drive of industry professionals towards all-round service excellence”.
After being unveiled at Host, the D8 platform was also put to the test by visitors at SIGEP. “A number of roasters came especially to see it first hand and try it out”, confirms Daniele Bosio. “It is the right machine at the right time, because it is tailored to the needs of today's global market. The eye-catching design and well designed aesthetics are appealing, but it is the commercial competitiveness that impresses the most”.

For four days, thousands of people from all over the world (80,284 to be precise) gathered to discover the latest trends, product and technology innovations in the coffee business. But above all to share their passion with a global community of professionals and enthusiasts
This atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and curiosity was the backdrop for the official launch of the new D8 on the Greek market. MANILA COFFEE FESTIVAL
15 – 17 March 2024
The Manila Coffee Festival 2024 was electrified by the energy of Filipino baristas, professionals and coffee lovers. Their passion and commitment were the real stars of the event, hosted by the Manila Marriott Hotel.
For the first time, Sanremo Philippines was present in partnership with Single Origin and its varied selection of roasters and producers.
Single Origin Bar powered by Sanremo: a full immersion in the local coffee culture
As a result of this partnership, a real Single Origin Bar powered by Sanremo was set up, where the public was able to taste locally grown and expertly extracted coffees, learning more about the rich culture of Filipino coffee.
At the Sanremo booth, guests were treated to a variety of coffees prepared with the Café Racer. Aromatically rich cups were made that brought out the potential of locally sourced beans and the skills of the baristas.
One of the highlights of the event were the bar takeovers, which featured champions such as Mark Joseph Lingat, the reigning Filipino latte art champion. Mark worked with an Opera 2.0 “The Revolution” and captivated the participants with his art, skilfully creating signature coffees that demonstrated his talent.

More
than 420,000 attendees at the hospitality & food service trade fair, consolidating its international profile
HOTELEX 2024 was a memorable experience for Sanremo. The international exhibition, which was held last March at the Shanghai Qingpu National Convention and Exhibition Centre, is one of the world's most important trade fairs dedicated to the food, wine and hospitality industry.
During the four-day exhibition, our local team met with professionals, customers, partners and distributors from all corners of China.
At the Sanremo booth, 6 different versions of the Café Racer were on display and available for those who wanted to test them, each characterised by an attractive and innovative design. The performance of these machines and their unique design impressed those who saw
and tested them for the first time, sparking a desire to learn more about them.
Participating at HOTELEX was intense and involved plenty of interaction, allowing Sanremo to better understand its customers' needs, share its passion for coffee with them, and consolidate the brand's reputation in the Chinese market.
“Presenting the Sanremo models to baristas and roasters, and observing their enthusiasm as they tested them, was a rewarding experience.” –commented the international business executive of the Chinese partner– “It allowed us to get to know the style and spirit of Sanremo and the commitment of the entire company to aesthetic and functional excellence.”
A GAMECHANGING DEBUT IN LONDON
A continuously evolving market, improving quality and consistency in the cup, focusing on innovation, automation and data-driven decisions. This is the snapshot emerging from the latest edition of the London Coffee Festival: “Even from the standpoint of raw material”, reports Stewart Johnson, sales director at Sanremo UK, “there are many coffees of the same origin which are processed with a variety of new methods, offering really interesting aromatic notes and flavour profiles”.
The London Coffee Festival was the ideal stage to present two exciting new additions to the Sanremo range. The exhibition coincided with the official launch of the D8 in the UK. As many as 25 roasters from all over the country (and beyond) took turns at the Sanremo booth to try out the new single-boiler platform combined with the X-One coffee grinder.
“The baristas were particularly impressed with the design, consistency and performance of the D8. - comments Stewart - Thanks to the super-intuitive interfaces of both the D8 and X-One, they quickly found the right coffee setting, even with minimal training. This test has opened everyone's eyes to what is actually achievable with a single-boiler platform”.
High visibility on social media for the Latte Art Throwdown, organised in cooperation with Alpro
The second novelty made official at the London Coffee Festival was the addition to the Sanremo team of Dhan Tamang, six-time British Latte Art champion.
Dhan debuted as head barista at Sanremo UK and was among the judges at the “Latte Art Throwdown” organised by Sanremo in cooperation with Alpro. This competition was one of the highlights at the Sanremo booth during the London trade fair, not only because of the charismatic presence of Dhan Tamang and the Alpro team, but also thanks to a dedicated communication strategy on social media before and during the throwdown. Social media played a crucial role in engaging a wide audience, creating a contagious energy around the event.
BROADENING HORIZONS AND COFFEE NETWORKING
SCAA EXPO / CHICAGO 12 – 14 April 2024
This year's Specialty Coffee Expo saw record attendance, with over 16,000 visitors.
“It was a phenomenal platform and a massive opportunity to connect with the coffee community. – commented Julio Guevara, business development manager at Sanremo USA – We collaborated with more than 20 roasters at our booth, offering countless excellent coffees to visitors. Moreover, thanks to the partnership with Guatemalan Coffees, we were also present in the event hall.”

CHICAGO
A key moment at the Sanremo booth was the long-awaited launch of the single-boiler D8.
“The opportunity to engage with countless baristas, coffee shop owners, roasters and industry experts from all over the US and receive their direct feedback was truly remarkable”, Julio commented. “Even listening to the views of those who had never used a Sanremo machine before was immensely rewarding.”

20 different roasters formed one close-knit team, serving extraordinary coffees at the Sanremo booth
The SCA Expo was an incredible opportunity to demonstrate Sanremo's commitment to innovation and quality. The USA team is excited to continue as Diamond Sponsor at next year's trade show in Houston and is already working on new initiatives to make it an unforgettable experience.
The caffeine-filled atmosphere of the SCA Expo 2024 delighted the roasters who manned the Sanremo booth. In this series of interviews, Dark Horse, Good People and Coalition Coffee Roaster talk about this intense experience and how they pooled their skills and creativity to create a service to remember.
The Interviews
The 2024 edition of the SCA Expo was one of the best in the last 10 years. The location, climate and city of Chicago are perfect for hosting this event.
We at Dark Horse love to meet coffee producers and professionals from all over the world and preview new market trends
At the Sanremo booth we had an intense few days. It was both productive and educational at the same time. We enjoyed networking with new roasters, producers and others in the industry while having fun brewing our coffees.
We are excited about the new products Sanremo has put time and energy into, and it was great to see the X-One, D8 and YOU in action and practice with the team that designed them.
What we liked most about the SCA Expo was the sense of community. There was a feeling of being part of a big worldwide family of coffee lovers.
It was great to meet face-to-face with the people behind our favourite products and learn more about the journey from bean to cup. Moreover, immersing ourselves in the latest technological innovations has given us new motivation to push the limits.
At the Sanremo booth, we got to meet new partners and coffee lovers. For many visitors we were the first stop on their visit and knowing that we were helping them get their day off to a great start with our coffees gave us great satisfaction.
We worked with the F18 and were really impressed by its design and functionality.
In Chicago, we noticed how much the Sanremo family has grown in North America (we have been part of it since 2017) and how we all still work in synergy: we don't just want to make good coffee, we strive for excellence. At the booth, all the roasters worked in unison and shared their knowledge and hacks to bring out the best. Coffee is a small seed that can literally unite the world.
Trade fairs are hard work, but the Sanremo team took care of everything and we felt right at home. We had the privilege of meeting so many people literally looking for the perfect cup... and at the Sanremo booth we were able to get it for them.
Personally, I (Chuck) experienced a very rewarding moment. A producer of an extremely exotic coffee wanted to use it in competition, but had not been able to get the desired results at another booth, so he turned to us. With the X-One and YOU we were able to bring out its characteristics. I was able to offer both the producer and the competing barista different recipes, for espresso and with milk. I felt like a real DJ and was able to produce flavours that make you go “yummy!”
ESPRESSO MASTERS CLASH AT SANREMO'S BOOTH
The Sanremo booth at WOC Busan was the scene of an exciting series of espresso throwdowns that pitted some of Korea's top specialty roasters against Australia's ONA Coffee
Competing in the draw were Hugh Kelly, Korea's 2022 Coffee Roasting champion Minho Kim for HOWW Coffee, former national barista champion Changho Shin for Default Value, Hyojae Jung of Hytte Roastery, renowned for its designer venue and excellent coffee, and Hyundong Park, co-founder of WERK Roastery, which has a huge following among specialty coffee enthusiasts in Busan.
Hugh used a YOU to extract single-origin coffee from ONA Coffee. The other competitors used the Opera 2.0, setting extraction profiles adapted to their beans and thereby showcasing the unique characteristics of each coffee
The barista competition was accompanied by a challenge among visitors to the booth, who tasted the different espressos and voted for their favourite. Among those who voted for the winning baristas, 20 lucky people were then drawn to win some outstanding speciality coffee beans.

More and more Korean consumers are looking for products that enable them to enjoy a quality coffee experience at home as well
The two Sanremo models chosen for the throwdown are the ones that are attracting the most attention from Korean coffee lovers. The YOU, in particular, is in the spotlight after Yoo-Min Roh, former K-POP idol and now barista, bought one and reviewed it.
In Korea, coffee shops specialising in single-origin coffee are on the rise and there is a growing demand for high-performance, user-friendly and affordable machines.
The interest in high-end equipment also extends to coffee grinders. The varied selection of coffee available and increasingly demanding consumers have made it difficult to satisfy different customer preferences with just one grinder. In this context, the X-One provides a good solution.
In addition, more and more consumers in Korea want a quality coffee experience at home, looking for excellent coffees as well as high-performance household machines. This is why the YOU, with its performance and compact design, is attracting the interest of an ever-expanding public.

IGNITING COFFEE CONNECTIONS # We Sanremoarefamily:)
Manila and Davao, the two largest cities in the Philippines renowned for their vibrant coffee culture, provided the backdrop for the “Sanremo Coffee Talk Series”. These four training and networking events registered a surprising turnout, exceeding the expectations of the organisers themselves.
“Sanremo Coffee Talk Series”, training and networking for coffee lovers in the Philippines
Participation, sharing and passion: the keywords of the four training events led by Martin Shabaya
During the sessions, the numerous participants were able to put themselves to the test with Sanremo products, including the Opera, Café Racer, Verona and F18, exploring the technical features of the machines and testing their skills as they created excellence in the cup.
On hand to support and involve them was barista and champion Martin Shabaya: “I am happy to be working with a brand that shares many of my values in terms of teamwork and innovation”. Participants enthusiastically embraced Martin's insights, demonstrating their desire to learn, connect and forge relationships within the coffee world.
Those who took part in the “Sanremo Coffee Talk Series” were able to perfectly perceive not only the irresistible aroma of exceptional coffees, but also an atmosphere of genuine participation, sharing and passion.
RIDING THE WAVE INTO THE FUTURE
Boracay, the Philippines / 13 – 14 November 2023
Over 59 representatives from all over the world discussed best practices and the future of the industry
Last November, the Crimson Resort & Spa in Boracay hosted the “Sanremo Base Camp”: a revitalising experience for the Sanremo team in Southeast Asia.
The main objective of the two-day conference was to foster the exchange of ideas, empowerment and inspiration to innovate.
The more than 59 delegates, coming from different countries, gathered for a delightful “pagsasama”: a Filipino term conveying a sense of community and sharing.
Each delegation presented its best practices and plans for the future to its colleagues and Carlo de Sordi and Marco Sartori (CEO and CFO of Sanremo). The cooperative spirit and the waves of the sea promoted the flow of ideas, creating a stimulating and productive environment.
The Base Camp in Boracay was not only an opportunity for participants to update and brainstorm, but also a time to reflect on the future of the industry together. The enthusiasm and ideas “pooled” are a promise of continuous improvement and commitment for the years ahead.

POURING PASSION INTO (LATTE)ART # We Sanremoarefamily:)
Last November, the Luxent Hotel in Quezon City was the venue for the “Sanremo Latte Art Throwdown”: the largest latte art competition in the Philippines, with over 140 baristas from all over the archipelago.
Since the first edition in 2017, this event has gradually become a benchmark for the Filipino barista community, creating a space to share their love for coffee, their artistic creativity and their sense of belonging.
Among more than 140 baristas, Mark Joseph Lingat won the 4th Sanremo Latte Art Throwdown and was chosen as Sanremo brand ambassador for the Philippines
This year's event featured Filipino coffee legends and young talents, ready to compete to determine who was the best.
Adding even more excitement to the challenge was the announcement by Carlo de Sordi, who surprised everyone by offering a trip to Italy to visit the Sanremo production site and showroom in Milan as a prize.
Among the many talents in the competition, Mark Joseph Lingat emerged as the winner of the 4th Sanremo Latte Art Throwdown. With his extraordinary skill and dedication, Mark also earned the role of Sanremo Brand Ambassador for the Philippines
Mark's victory is not only a personal accolade, but also an incentive for baristas across the country to strive for new goals.
A GROWING COFFEE COMMUNITY
The success of this partnership is not only measured in terms of sales figures, but rather relationships built and stories to be shared
More than 10 years have passed since Sanremo partnered with one of the leading players in the Armenian Horeca sector. The goal? To foster the development of coffee culture in Armenia by helping baristas improve their creations.
Today, more and more coffee shops, bars and restaurants in the country are using Sanremo machines. These include popular brands such as Coffee House Company, Cascade Royal, Zanzibar, Zen Garden, Babylon, Green Bean Cafe, Multi Wellness Sky Bar, Best Western Dilijan Hotel, The House and many others.
“The success of this alliance is not only measured in terms of number of machines sold, but rather relationships built and stories to be shared.” – says Levon Torunyan, corporate barista and ambassador of Armenia's Sanremo team. “Through events, training sessions and workshops, we have established and helped grow a vibrant coffee community, where knowledge and skills are pooled and the passion for coffee is nurtured”.
“We are proud and excited”, adds Levon, “to carry on with this shared project, to aim and set new ambitious goals and contribute to a world where coffee is not just a beverage: it is a way of life!”

THE SKY IS NOT THE LIMIT, IT’S JUST THE BEGINNING
CRAFTING THE BEST COFFEE: DINZLER'S LEGACY
The roasting facility in Irschenberg has become a place for tastings, as well as a hub for meetings, training, and socializing
For over seventy years, Dinzler Kaffeerösterei has been refining the best green coffees in a traditional, artisanal way.
“We roast coffee at low temperatures, in a particularly long and gentle process and in small batches, using classic drum roasters.” – says Katrin Richter proudly, owner of Dinzler together with her brother Matthias. “In this way, the soul of the coffee can be preserved. Each blend is expertly roasted by hand by our master roasters”.
Not only roasting: all aspects of the process, from the selection of the beans to the preparation of the beverages, are carefully taken care of. “We source our green coffee from the best growing regions around the world, preferably directly from the farmers and at a fair price for the producers”, adds Katrin.
In this constant quest for excellence, the Richter family has found an ally in Sanremo. “We share the same values and the goal of offering the best quality to customers.” – confirmed the Richter brothers. “We are satisfied with the con-
sistent performance and reliability of Sanremo machines. They are the beating heart of our coffee bar, preparing thousands of espressos and cappuccinos every day for our passionate customers”.
The company's premises in Irschenberg offer a complete experience. In addition to the roastery, there is also a coffee bar, a restaurant and a pastry shop.
On the counters gleam the gold-coloured details of the exclusively customised 2- and 3-group Café Racers
A conference room, which among other things hosts the Dinzler Coffee Academy's training sessions, and a children's play area complete the offer, making this kaffeerösterei not only a destination for those who enjoy excellent coffee, but also a place for socialising and sharing.
INNOVATING COFFEE EXPERIENCE IN BANDUNG
In the city of Bandung, Indonesia's fourth-largest city, a company was founded in 2016 that has won the hearts of local coffee lovers: Herd Coffee Roaster
•••
“Sumthin' Else” is a coffee experience store: a place where coffee becomes a complete experience
Herd has always had an ambitious goal: to offer the best coffee beans, with consistent quality and adapted to the taste profile of different customers, serving more than 200 businesses throughout Indonesia. To achieve this, founder Andri Hardian Tirta chose partners who share his values. “Like Sanremo”, he says, “we have long relied on its bold design and technology to make our coffee taste good”.
The beginning of 2024 marks a new adventure for Herd Coffee Roaster with the opening of a coffee experience store in downtown Bandung. This is not just a coffee shop, but something different: Sumthin' Else!
“Sumthin' Else” is a place where coffee becomes a complete experience, where coffee lovers can experience every stage of the process, from bean selection to roasting and tasting, participate in “live roasting” events, choose green coffee and roast it themselves. “This approach is more effective, engaging and fun”, explains Andri. “An important part of this experience is the Sanremo YOU: with its consistency, and thanks to customisable and storable pressure profiles, it guarantees performance and customer satisfaction.”
THE COFFEE CLUB NZ CHOOSES SANREMO
Since its inception, the Sanremo team in New Zealand has been known for its family approach, commitment to excellence and dedication to providing first-class service to customers. With these assets, over the years, it has built strong relationships with some of the leading players in the New Zealand coffee industry, including the country's two largest coffee shop chains: “The Coffee Club NZ” and “Columbus Coffee”.
@Dani Hurrell
In fact, “The Coffee Club NZ” recently chose Sanremo as its main supplier for coffee machines.
In the near future, more and more of the chain's shops will display the brand's models on their counters with its iconic ibex logo. This partnership is so positive that the franchise has also presented Sanremo with the “Outstanding Contribution to The Coffee Club NZ for 2023” award: a testament to the ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction and innovation in the industry.
The Sanremo team in New Zealand was presented with the “Outstanding Contribution to The Coffee Club NZ” award
The next step will be the opening of a dedicated showroom, where customers can explore and experience Sanremo's creations and technologies first-hand.
“We are incredibly excited about this new development and are fully
committed to investing in this area”, commented general manager Jay Denton. “With the new showroom and expanded warehouses, we will be able to provide even greater value to our customers and continue to be at the forefront of the New Zealand coffee industry.”
••• Champion Tetsu Kasuya explores the potential of the YOU and the future of the art of coffee in Japan
The YOU has a new distinguished admirer from the world of coffee: Japanese champion Tetsu Kasuya
Winner of the 2016 World Brewers Cup, Kasuya is founder and owner of the specialty coffee roasting company “Philocoffea”, as well as a trainer, coach and consultant in the coffee industry. His YouTube channel has over 85,000 subscribers: one of the most followed in Japan in this field.
LOVING YOU Tetsuby Kasuya YouTube
Also making him famous was the invention of the revolutionary 4:6 method, a hand-drip formula that earned him the title of World Brewers Champion. The term 4:6 comes from the way the hot water is divided during the pouring phases (40% and 60%) so that the flavour and concentration of the coffee can be adjusted.
Tetsu Kasuya discovered the YOU at the WOC in Dubai and was impressed by its innovative potential. He wanted to use it extensively to experiment with it. This is what he thinks.
Why do you think the YOU could bring about a revolutionary change in espresso extraction?
“When participating in the World Brewers Cup competitions, I invented several recipes for filter coffee. With the YOU I can apply that same brewing logic to the creation of espresso recipes.
When I first tasted the espressos prepared with the YOU using different pressures, I was amazed at the different flavours obtained from the same coffee beans.”
What features impressed you when working with this machine?
“Thanks to its intuitive interface, the YOU is as easy to use as a smartphone. At the touch of a button, a customised profile can be selected and, by manoeuvring the paddle, people can experience amazing varieties of taste and aroma from the same coffee bean.
What future do you see for espresso in Japan?
Hand-drip coffee continues to occupy a dominant market share in Japan, but gradually the number of espresso drinkers has increased. The advantage of the YOU is that it can be used not only in coffee shops, but also at home. More and more people will have the opportunity to enjoy espresso in different ways.

What are the most important skills a barista needs to develop to excel today?
There are various key skills and elements that are indispensable to excel as a barista in today’s competitive market. Understanding various brewing techniques such as French press, espresso, pour over, aeropress etc., and the crucial science behind extraction are crucial in order to consistently produce high quality coffee. Knowledge of equipment maintenance is essential to ensure they are kept in the best working condition.
It's also important to stay informed about the latest coffee trends, origins, and tasting notes, and to be open to learning new techniques, tools, etc., while pursuing continuous training to remain at the forefront of the coffee industry.

LOVE AND INSTINCT: ALESSIO TROIA’S PATH
Instinct and the courage to dare are an important part of the personal and professional story of Alessio Troia, Director of sales operations at Sanremo US. Thanks to his innate dispositions, Alessio turned two chance encounters, in 2004 and 2014, into a new life in the US and an international development adventure. He shares with us his journey, the challenges he has faced and his plans for the future.
•••
Instinct and the courage to dare: two cornerstones in Alessio's life
From Sicily to New Jersey: what made you leave Italy for the US?
Love! In 2004, in my early twenties, I met Lauren and it was love at first sight. I was a NATO soldier on missions abroad and I had returned to my home city, Palermo, on leave. She lived in the States and was on holiday in Sicily to visit her extended family. I followed her and never went back. Now we are married and have two children.
Do you always follow your instincts?
That's how I am: when I get a good feeling about something I don't think too much about what I might lose, I focus on what I might discover.
This was also the case in 2014 when I met Carlo de Sordi. His vision and enthusiasm overwhelmed me and gave me the drive to throw myself into the unknown of a new adventure.
Tell us about your encounter with Sanremo I had to reinvent myself in the US. After some experience in the field of household appliances, I was contacted by some coffee roasters for advice related to the world of espresso, because of my Italian origin. So I got to discover a world that I was immediately passionate about. I attended SCA courses and participated in contests. By winning one of them, I made contact with Sanremo. At the time, Carlo de Sordi wanted to lay the foundations for an expansion into North America and was looking for contacts.
In 2014 and 2024, he was able to turn two chance encounters into valuable opportunities
THE US MARKET
Tell us about the beginnings of this new adventure
At first I was travelling all over the US in my car with a coffee machine in the trunk, calling every possible customer I could get a hold of. With a great deal of perseverance, I managed to arrange meetings and get people to try out the machine. Fortunately, Americans are curious, open-minded and, above all, appreciate wellmade products, innovation, new companies and a proactive spirit.
From early solo road trips to an exciting team adventure
What were the greatest challenges you faced?
The American market is very difficult. It requires continuity, presence and support, things that for a new company not rooted in the territory are not taken for granted. It is also dominated by industry giants, has a complex system of US-specific certifications and a huge territory to cover. But our machines have a compelling soul and we managed to get things going.
What has changed since 2014?
In these 10 years, our brand has been continuously growing. In 2016, the Opera caused a stir: it was the perfect machine to ride the specialty coffee wave that was spreading across the country. In 2018, when we presented the Café Racer, there was already a following of enthusiasts who came looking for us at trade fairs.
Looking back it makes me smile. It is the same feeling as diving off a cliff and, once you have resurfaced, that feeling of satisfaction because of the wonderful flight and because everything went well. It is also true that I did not take this plunge alone. The secret behind working with Sanremo is the relationship between the people there, and in particular with Carlo, which is strongly rooted in values and therefore very rewarding. I have always felt trust and encouragement, for which I am very grateful.
What are the next goals?
Our goals for the future are agreements with new aftersales partners and, after the success of the YOU, the spread of single boilers with the new D8.
We want to continue to enhance the value of our showroom in New Jersey, where we have recently started invitation-only, small-session technical meetings for our customers. It is an excellent opportunity to strengthen ties, increase knowledge of the machines and above all to share passions.

MACHINES WITH SOULSoul
Beauty and style never stop being fascinating. Although untranslatable into words, they are evident to our eyes: we want to discover what is hidden behind lines, colours and shapes. Beautiful objects have a soul, which stems from the efforts made to realise them, from the shared desire to give shape to ideas, from the passionate and meticulous search for detail. That is why those objects become desirable.
Like the Sanremo machines, which bring character to the daily life of coffee lovers and which are also a source of knowledge, culture and progress.
