Dear Life In Orpington,

The moment I saw it I knew it would be The perfect home for my husband and me We liked all the rooms and the neat garden too But what made up our minds was the wonderful view Just trees and fields was all I could see A haven of peace and tranquillity But when I woke up one morning I had quite a shock For right opposite was a brand new bus stop I moaned and I groaned and made such a fuss Now my view would be spoiled by a great big red bus Now looking back how wrong could I be For the best part of it all is the people I see

Just recently we received a text message on our mobile which looked like this (right) There were a few inconsistencies when I reread it such as the letter ‘O’ in Argos being a number and that it said I had won “the £500 gift” rather than “a £500 gift”. So I Googled ‘Argos scam text message’ and found an article from The Sun warning people about the message. I just wanted to warn others to double check messages like this. In this particular case, Argos has an email address where you can report suspicious content -scams@argos.co.uk - which I did. For suspicious Argos emails or content people can also call , shoppers should also call 0345-640 0700. G Thomas, Chelsfield

First thing in the morning when it is still dark A group of young men who look very smart With brief case and umbrella (in case it should rain) Wait for the first bus so they won’t miss their train Then come the children all off to school And mothers with buggies and babies so small Next come the shoppers most with grey hair That is the time you will see me there

We asked, you answered…

At the edge of the night young people appear In tee shirts and jeans and the latest gear Off to a disco or maybe a club A few I suspect to our local pub

Bromley Council is looking to introduce 5G connectivity throughout the Bromley borough - what are your thoughts on this?

We asked, you answered…

We at Beckford Drive have less than 2Mbps broadband speed in this age. It would be great if Bromley council can begin their trials with us. As with current speed, it's not possible to work from home despite having the facility. Our lives would be much easier and could give us more time together as family. Kishore Rajani, Crofton Heath

The last bus has gone, it’s the end of the day The light from that shelter shows foxes at play And from my night window, I might catch the eye Of a black and white badger, as he scurries by

There are large swathes of the borough - particularly the rural parts, that are still very poorly served by fast broadband. I do not believe that 5G, particularly in rural parts, will be with us in any reasonable timeframe. The implementation is down to private companies who will serve urban areas first (similar to fibre broadband). Steve Barnes, Downe

I have made many friends at that stop through the years Shared some of their laughter and some of their tears But the worry I have at the end of the day Is the council will come and take it away

The real question - is it even optional? Do we, as a collective actually have a choice if would like 5G within our towns? Ra Quamina, Trinity Village

Maureen Hillier member of the Croft Poetry Club

This month’s question generated a huge response – too many to mention, so we are putting them to Bromley Council with the hope of publishing more information in our April edition.
