Do you find yourself sometimes think ‘I don’t belong here’ or ‘I’m not worth it’?
Have you ever shied away from asking for a pay rise?
Have you worked with a team who struggle to deliver on time despite being set clear objectives?
If you have answered yes to any of the above, then you could be suffering from what is often described as 'Imposter Syndrome'?
This is when a person who is normally outgoing/ confident and successful convinces themselves they actually aren’t good enough, and fears they will be ‘found out’ as a fraud.
This can trigger stress, fear, anxiety and performance issues, as well as affecting relationships at home.
Imposter Syndrome is “the gap between who you see yourself as being and who you think you need to be, to succeed and lead”.
A recent survey done on imposter syndrome shows this is a phenomenon that affects men and women in nearly equal proportions (51% women, 49% men) , though the way they handle it is very different.
The data shows that when a man gets promoted, the likelihood that Imposter Syndrome will affect his performance goes down significantly. However, for women, it jumps up.
Don’t worry! Everyone feels like an imposter sometimes and that’s okay!
