Respect, humbleness, dignity, purpose, leadership — all values and characteristics that can be seen in a lion. Just like Over-de-Voor ’ s emblem. Not only does the emblem represent these values, but also the men of Overs. No wonder this residence chose this mighty creature to be their emblem! And it definitely caught Kasteel’ s eye…

Over-de-Voor is a very dynamic residence, grounded on biblical values and norms. They are focused on brotherhood, camaraderie, pride, and mutual respect so that its residents can be empowered to perform to benefit the university, community, the residence itself, and also its ' sleep ' . These are all reasons why Overs was in the top three options of being Kasteel’ s ' sleep ' for 2022.

It all started with Zoepweek, a week where ladies ' residences get to know various men ’ s residences who they could potentially ' sleep ' with. This specific week is for bonding and having fun! Each residence is provided with seven different ' sleep ' options.

At the beginning of the year, the HC members of Kasteel sat down and formulated a specific criteria that they would want in their potential ' sleep ' . Eventually, Kasteel’ s top three potential men ’ s residences were De Wilgers, Over-de-Voor, and Heimat. With the final vote of the Kasteel ladies, Overs took first place without a doubt!

“Kasteel wanted a residence that’ s driven, matches Kasteel’ s energy, and has work ethics to ensure that the residence can still succeed and reach its full potential. It was also important that the two residences ’ Arts & Jool HC get along, because of all the important “ aksies ” and points they provide for the residences, ” says Elizmari Scholtz, Social, Finance and Clothing HC of Kasteel. Not only did the HC have to get along with these men, but also the rest of the residence.

Over-de-Voor fitted Kasteel’ s needs perfectly! They are an extremely supportive and committed residence. Overs supported Kasteel’ s slushy sales earlier this year and gave a big effort in helping to build a float for the annual RAG. They also participated with Kasteel in the First years ’ concert. “It’ s almost like being in a relationship!” says Elizmari. Jerry, an HC of Overs, admitted that Kasteel was their first option, of course! With Wanda following as their second. “Kasteel is a motivated, disciplined and beautiful residence!” Jerry said with the biggest smile on his face. He was then asked to give three descriptions of Kasteel that he thought fitted the residence best. Firstly, he described it as love at first sight, considering all the beautiful and intelligent ladies in Kasteel. Overs admires what Kasteel stands for and also admires the unbreakable sister bond that the ladies have.

Lourens Erasmus, a first year in Over-de-Voor, describes his residence as a “family ” , because of the strong brotherly love between the men. He enjoys all the traditions and he is very proud of his residence. Lourens also believes that Kasteel is the perfect “ sleep ” for them because of the same strong family bond that Kasteel ladies also has. Not only is this special bond appreciated but also the respect that the ladies have for one another.
