Imagine it… It’ s 1970 and Kasteel has officially opened her doors! At the time, it was probably as exciting as Elton John ’ s newest hit or Prince Charles ’ search for a wife.

However, men were the first inhabitants of our home and the name
‘Hombré Manskoshuis ’ was painted on the walls. Luckily the university decided to make it a ladies ’ residence in 1972, which was the beginning of what would be a magical place.
At this stage, Kasteel’ s emblem was a tiger which was known among the girls as ‘Tommie Tier ’ . As time passed, Kasteel’ s emblem officially changed to the suitable crown which represents the royalty of all the girls living in the residence. Furthermore, the colour on all the uniforms was orange but later changed to the beautiful purple we know today. Throughout the years, Kasteel definitely made her mark on the Potchefstroom campus! Whether it be on the sports field or the stage, Kasteel showed up and achieved, time and time again. If you haven 't noticed, Kasteel’ s excellence is still being showcased to this day.
If it wasn ’t for one person deciding to open another ladies ’ residence in 1972, who knows what friendships and memories we would have made along the way? In Kasteel, it isn ’t blood that makes us sisters, but instead, it’ s our hearts drawn together.
This year Kasteel turns 50 years old, and we will soon be celebrating this milestone at the reunion! May Kasteel be blessed for another 50 years to come.
