About The Swingin' Stangs
Scott Weber is the director of the Swingin' Stangs Jazz Ensemble from Mount Vernon. They have been involved with the KCCK project since 2016 and have very much enjoyed their experiences of working with jazz artists throughout the corridor. The Mount Vernon Jazz Ensemble has received Division 1 ratings at State contest for the past 9 years and this year placed second at the Lisbon Jazz Festival.
About Desmond Cervantez:
Desmond Cervantez has Director of Bands at Solon High School since 1999. He also teaches applied trumpet lessons at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Cervantez taught private brass lessons for many years, and he continues to maintain a small studio.
He has degrees from Southwest Baptist University and Truman State in Missouri. He is an avid performer and arranges works for his own quintet, the Cedar River Brass Quintet. He is principal trumpet of the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra. He also performs with groups such as the Josh Duffee Big Band and in the pit at Theatre Cedar Rapids. In addition to jazz band, he also directs the only high school Mariachi band we know of, Mariachi de Solon.
