About The Centerpoint-Urbana Jazz Band

The Center Point Urbana High School Jazz Band has a long and successful history dating back to the early 1970s. Dan and Dorothy Jacobi began teaching at CPU in 2013.

Several members represented at the 2023 NEIBA Honor Jazz Festival. They received a Division I rating at the State Jazz Festival and 3rd at the Coe Jazz Summit.

Delaney Jacobi received Outstanding Soloist Awards at Liberty and Coe.

About Aaron Ottmar:

Aaron Ottmar is Director of Bands at Iowa City High School. Where he directs the Little Hawk Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Lab, and Jazz Collective and the Jazz Ensemble, which will perform tomorrow in Iowa City. A City High grad himself. Aaron is also a director who has returned to lead his alma mater. In high school, he participated in some of the earliest Corridor Jazz Projects. He won numerous performance awards in school at UNI, and placed in the Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition.

As a performer, he plays in the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band, conducted for Jim McDonough, and has been a featured soloist in Iowa City, at UNI, and also adjudicates band competitions and conducts clinics around Iowa.
