About The West Branch Jazz Ensemble:

The West Branch Jazz Ensemble, directed by Samuel Ogilvie, is one of three jazz bands at the school.  Jazz Ensemble's season includes a performance with Smith Studio Jazz,  the Coe Jazz Summit, and the West Branch Swing Show.  West Branch Jazz closes their season in 2024 with a public concert at Wildwood BBQ, featuring BYOBrass.

About Ryan Middleton:

Ryan Middleton is in his second year as a band director at Iowa City West High School. Prior to arriving in Iowa City, Middleton served as director of bands at Okoboji High School.

As a saxophonist, Middleton sailed for two years as a member of Cunard Line’s Royal Court Theater Orchestra and Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ Signature Orchestra.

As the winner of the 2015 Northern Iowa Wind Band Concerto Competition, Middleton was a featured soloist performing a Concerto with the University of Northern Iowa Wind Symphony.

Middleton holds degrees from the University of Northern Iowa (BM '15) and Colorado State University (MM '22).
