About the CORRIDOR JAZZ PROJECT
We made it. But just barely.
When more than a foot of snow blanketed Eastern Iowa in January, I breathed a sigh of relief because the blizzard happened the week before the Corridor Jazz tapings.
I thought, What are the odds of another snowstorm? We’ve got it made!
I should have known that Iowa Winter had more surprises up its sleeve. But even with a record 20 bands in the Corridor Jazz Project this year, there was just enough play in the schedule that we could squeeze in the bands whose sessions were delayed.
We are extra grateful this year for the directors and students who were able to rearrange their schedules, or be patient when we had to slip an extra group in between sessions. I’m also thankful to the school activity directors and bus drivers. Ours was just one of many events they had to reschedule.
As I mentioned above, 2024 marks another year of record participation in this program. We welcome Joel Knipe and Independence as well as Leah Grant and Williamsburg, marking 20 participating schools. We continue to be thrilled and humbled that more than 400 students and their teachers continue to make the Corridor Jazz Project one of the hallmarks of their programs. And also, that getting into the program has become a mark of distinction among high school jazz bands.
