If Anderson can reach the playoffs with Howe, she’ll be the first female head coach for Howe to do so. Anderson is originally of Trenton, Texas where she went kindergarten through graduation. She was point guard for the Lady Tigers and was a shooting guard at LeTourneau University in Longview. She was injured and stayed there for two years before transferring to Tarleton State to obtain her degree. She began coaching her younger sister’s youth teams and found that coaching was what she wanted to do as a career. “All through college, I would sit on any bench that would let me,” said Anderson. “It’s pretty much all I’ve ever wanted to do.” With one class remaining at Tarleton before graduating, Anderson was able to skip student teaching and was hired by hometown Trenton as an aid until graduation when she became full-time teacher and assistant coach. She became the head softball coach in 2007. Dodd City called her and asked if she would interview for the head volleyball and head basketball job which she couldn’t turn down. Anderson began with Dodd City in 2008. They were rebuilding their program and wanted a young coach to head their program. Anderson stayed until Christmas of 2013 when she was diagnosed with leukemia. After a stem cell transplant, she was forced to halt her career as she stayed at M.D. Anderson Hospital for four months and took a year off of coaching or teaching. “It was a tough time in life,” said Anderson who was released to go back to work a full year after the diagnosis. Against doctor’s recommendation, she continued to stay in the field of coaching. She was hired at Bonham and worked in the middle school to see
